The food was excellent as was the atmosphere in a historic building on the river. I would return in a heartbeat.

Situated in an old mill Joes keeps a rustic feel adding to its charm. The menu which is somewhat limited focusing on Pinsa (like a pizza) for which they appear to use authentic Italian ingredients. The Joe theme is carried over to the pinsa menu names. I had the Joe Theisman, a goat cheese pesto pinsa. Very well prepared. We also ordered a beet and feta salad with chicken that was fresh and quite good. Service was very attentive, prices fair.

If you sit outside, perched on the side of the mill, you have a wonderful view of the river and falls that run through Almonte. It is however a bit loud at times, impacting conversation slightly. Food and service were both solid. My Joe Walsh pizza was perfectly prepared and tasty. My meal partners all enjoyed their choices as well. It was a bit too much for me to finish! The crust was fabulous. It is a limited menu: beer, wine, non alcoholic drinks, and anti-pasta, pasta, salads and the Pinsa Romana we had, heralded as the new pizza. This is not a place for gluten free eaters! Definitely worth a visit for atmosphere along with a glass of wine and pizza.

I got the Zucchini and Quinoa Fritters ($14) and my husband got the Breakfast Taco ($7.50) and a drip coffee ($2.65). The Zucchini and Quinoa Fritters came with a kale, cabbage and kohlrabi slaw. The slaw was topped with some edible flowers. There was some summer squash relish on top of the fritters and the fritters were placed on a smear of garlic scape aioli. The presentation was very aesthetically pleasing. The taste was good too. The fritters had a slight curry/cumin taste to them. They weren't crispy though, but rather soft. I believe they were pre-made and then heated up, not actually fried to order. The slaw wasn't over dressed, which is my most common complaint with pre-dressed salads, so that was a pleasant surprise. My husband's taco was a bit small for the price, in my opinion, but he said that it tasted good. It was a rectangle of baked egg, topped with bacon, greens and sprouts, in a corn tortilla. They have a water dispenser where you can help yourself to water. You order at the counter, and pay, then sit down wherever you want. When your food is ready, they bring it to you. Staff were friendly. I learned that the place has been open for about a year. Overall, the food was tasty. I personally found the prices a bit high for the portion sizes and for what it was, but I do understand that they use locally sourced ingredients and they are located in a small touristy town, so this may account for the elevated prices. Street parking only, which may be a bit tough to find during tourist season.

In we went. I am so glad we did this. It's very unassuming on the outside. Inside it's charming - while aspects of the tea room / restaurant are clearly made with current-day materials, you get the charm of past days with the china, real tea pots and display cases. It's very cute, the tea is excellent and it's a lovely spot to stop by as the days get colder. Like the decor, the food is also, in some ways current day like the rather modern special of the day (a bowl of rise with deliciously spiced chicken and bites of potato). But in other ways it harkens back to older ways with their delicious fresh baked goodies. One thing I appreciated: the servings were right-sized and the prices reflected it. Lunch for 2 with tea, dessert and a 20% tip (service was excellent) was around what I'd pay at a chain for a single meal alone.

On the recommendation of a young girl that we encountered en route to Almonte we decided to try this place with "great pies". It was so much more than that. Charming, quaint and friendly are words that come to mind. The owner and staff were funny and warm and their offerings were world class! We enjoyed fresh, handmade quiche, soup, salads and pie & cake that were to die for. My wife had the decadent butterscotch pie with 20 inches of merengue (slightly exaggerated) and I had THE BEST piece of carrot cake on Earth (no exaggeration). While dining we took up a conversation with a couple of locals who eventually took us on a tour of the town and even welcomed us into their home for a glass of wine. Truly a wonderful day.

As the name implies, they serve crepes - plus some daily special soups and 3 or 4 different salads. The background on the restaurant indicates the chef is locally grown, educated and experienced, so that's great too. If yelp allowed, I'd actually give them a 3.5 star rating. Better than A-OK, but some minor items holding them back from 'being a fan'. I have to make a decision though, so 4 it is, as they are completely worthwhile checking out. I had the duck crepe - it was good. The cranberry sauce was more on the tart than sweet, and all in it worked. Also had the carrot soup which was also quite delicious. Hubby has the Cassolade (sp?) crepe, which had beans, sausage and I believe bacon. I saw it on the menu, but was afraid to try it. And you know what? I regret my fear. Had a bit and it was fantastic. (As much as I did enjoy my choice, next time I will order this one.) He had the broccoli soup and was happy with it. (I tasted it, and it was great. Not the right choice for my duck crepe (carrot was right), but more cheesy. The area where the restaurant fell down, just a little bit, was in service. I got the impression our waitress was perhaps still new. We didn't get water refills, the salad we opted to split came on one plate (which was fine - but... would have liked to have maybe gotten another plate. Not a crisis, but the difference between mediocre service and great service.) There were a few other little things along those lines. Again, nothing terribly wrong, but this place is, as far as lunch goes, a bit more on the spendy side and it would be nice to get just a little more service (Our lunch was about $55 for two people all in - we would usually spend about 1/2 that on a typical Sunday lunch for two.) I should note our server was very nice and did work to ensure we were happy. No internet. :-/ Would I return: Yes Would I recommend Yes

OMFG! Indian food in the Valley! DELICIOUS food in the Valley!…read more Normally when you see a combo like pizza and Indian, you tend to assume that one or the other will not _quite_ be up to scratch. But, these dudes totally know their pizza *and* make luscious Indian, and beat out an enormous number of Ottawa restaurants in both categories. I am not much of a crust fan and tend to always ask for thin crust. I stopped doing that here because the crust is terrific. I don't know what the deal with the pizza sauce is, but it makes the whole thing totally crave-worthy. The toppings and cheese ratios are perfect. The paneer dish was in the smoothest and richest of sauces, and the rice and naan were just right. It's a pretty basic little spot, looks like any pizza takeaway joint and only has a few tables, but, when I received an offer to be taken out and spoiled in a restaurant for my birthday this year, I went here. The food is so good I couldn't think of anywhere else I would have preferred to go. And while it might seem like an odd mix, pizza and Indian are just about my two favourite restaurant types; it's actually kind of a genius combination. Everything is very fresh, and you never get an under- or over-cooked pizza. I asked for spinach as a topping recently and was told _very_ apologetically that it was probably about to disappear from the menu -- "nobody orders it; I end up just throwing it out, box after box," and I had to pause for a moment to realise he had been buying fresh spinach. So many other places would have tossed on frozen and not cared! (Pizzaria Unlimited: please consider replacing it with broccoli, and, frozen is just fine...) This review was written with considerable difficulty as I do not have their food in front of me, and thinking about it is making me drool all over the screen.

Great stuff! Convenient and good pricing compared to other Pizza-Rias! Would recommend!!read more
