This is a great pub - large, comfortable with plenty of seating and some leather armchairs which surround a large screen TV.
The staff are friendly and outgoing - and when you get served, check out the name that appears on the till. They all have nicknames they've given each other, which helps to make drinking here a very human experience.
The beers on tap are standard, nothing special - but you can get your beer to go in what looks like a large cardboard milk carton - a very odd concept.
The pub is odd though - which stems from the fact that I can't work out quite how it stays in business. Being so close to the city, and tucked away from Tower Hill, it can't get much footfall from passers by or tourists. When I've been drinking there, on Tuesdays and Thursdays mostly, it's almost empty. If there aren't any customers by 8pm, the manager closes the tills and shuts up shop. If there are 6 or 7 of you going, you can call ahead to make sure they don't close, though.
It's a lovely, quiet, well decorated pub and is comfortable enough for groups larger than 10. If you're in the area, pop in. It's more comfortable than the Dickens Inn, and you're more likely to be able to find a seat. read more
