The best bar in the area. More inner west then west. Everything I've tried on the menu has been delicious. Good value food and drinks. Highly recommended. read more

As you enter the complex you find the travelodge to your right. The front of house staff are welcoming and check in was hassle free. We were given our swipe card and explained where to find our way to the rooms. We were in an executive room so lucky to have free wifi (but if you don't, the club has it too). The amazing glass lift takes you up to your rooms with wonderful views of the surrounding areas, as did our executive suite. The room was spacious, a huge comfortable bed, futon/couch and it was extremely clean and well decorated. There was a kitchenette, microwave and POD coffee machine for the traveller which was convenient. We were also lucky enough to receive complimentary water, chocolate and a hand written card to wish us a wonderful stay. This was a lovely touch. Everything about the experience was great and extremely hospitable. Make sure you book, I understand it gets very busy with customers to the sports club and workers in the area.

When we got to the room, it looked dirty. This was confirmed when we saw the state of the bathroom, like someone had thrown Jif on the shower, a toilet seat that wasn't affixed to the toilet and bare electrical cables in the bathroom. In the bedside draws we found other peoples clothes and a booking slip from September with a previous guests personal details. Clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Where the TV was supposed to be, there was a dirty steak knife and a bunch of screws, along with a variety of dead bugs. The 24 hour secure parking is in fact not fenced, not secure and is covered in signs sayings 'park at your own risk'. Checkout isn't any better, we packed up and went to hand the key back at 830am. Only to discover that no staff are there until 10am. An hour and a half of our time in Sydney spent waiting to hand the key back. Do yourself a favour. Don't stay here. Your car has better amenities, it's cleaner and probably safer too. Save your money and go out for a nice steak dinner.

The front bar is a typical betting environment that holds little interest to me. The compulsory pokies lounge can be heard from the bar. However, after pushing the heavy doors from the car park open, a walk to the bistro is well clear of pokies sounds and dominated by the big screen tv that probably finds its main usefulness during sat night party sessions and the like. A quick chat with the chef at the counter had me ordering a 350g sirloin for $24 plus a $2 bowl of mushroom sauce. Medium rare. A modest glass of coke cost me $3.40 at the bar. The service was fast and the steak cooked exactly as requested. It was moist and delicious. Aged steak it wasn't - but certainly it rates as top notch 'pub fare'. It would be hard to find better at the cost. The Collingwood Hotel is an example of good food prepared with genuine care and pride overshadowing an otherwise average location. The tables have butchers paper tablecloths but the pleasant and helpful staff attitudes make it irrelevant. I have been here before, and the staff and food have always been a shining light. I shall return again. One star off for the car park, it does need resurfacing badly.

Okay, it could have been a bit of a gimmick, but it certainly didn't look all that new, though I suspect it isn't because it was built back during the tudor dynasty (for obvious reasons). However, even though this pub lacked the one thing that entices me, that is a good beer selection, there is still a pretty good reason why I didn't mind this place, and that was the beer garden - it was nice, despite the fact that it happened to be populated by the smokers.

At first it didn't look like much, just an old cruddy pub in the suburbs (though a pretty fancy suburb), however when I stepped out the back into the beer garden the atmosphere did pick up somewhat. It's an old hotel, with a pub and a bottle shop on the bottom floor! Score! The pub itself offers food- burgers, fish & chips, fries, beer and liquor! They've got the old-timey beer tap with lots of local and harder-to-find beers on tap. There's TAP live horse racing going on here, and slot machines in the back. The bottle shop offers even more harder-to-find beers, and slabs of ales and lagers too! The hotel itself was a bit on the run down side, but comfortable and safe. My only complaint was that they failed to offer soap and shampoo. I tried to wash up with what turned out to be powdered laundry detergent, and it kinda burned. There's no lift to the top floor, and it's 44 stairs up there. The room was outfitted with cable television, and a small bar refrigerator for drinks. There was a public restroom, with showers and a bathtub that I'd hope that nobody'd even think of using. The food came out SUPER DUPER fast. The fish and pork were pretty tasty but the duck was AMAZINGLY yummy. As I mentioned, I wanted a bit more after the third, so I ordered the veggie taco, which had mushrooms and a few other things. It was just okay. The place started getting really busy around 8 and some chicks were hovering over our seats, so we decided to take off.
