Lamar's top (only!) spot for a "fancy" dinner! Setup is in an old downtown building at the intersection of 287Main Street and 50/Olive. Visited with my wife on an overnight roadie and convenient pre-Valentine's Day meal. Steaks (mine = KC Strip, hers = sirloin) were expertly prepared medium-rare (really, how else should a good steak be done?) and very tasty. We shared a wedge salad which was delivered "disassembled" in a DIY set up. Steaks included mashed or loaded baked potato with bacon, cheese, sour cream, butter. A side of garlic-roasted brussels sprouts with bacon rounded out the meal. Wine selections are limited but by the glass around $10 for a decent Pinot Noir was good by me. Only one server this Tuesday night and she had a table of 10, two tables of 2, and one solo diner yet was running to keep up. Food came out less warm than ideal. And the delish bacon for the Brussels sprouts was served under the sprouts - didn't find it until the end. If you haven't, you are missing out. They had a soft open before Christmas. They are full blown. Bar seating or dining room. A few sports t.v.'s. The food is awesome. Ribeye steak and mashed potatoes. Wedge salad and the baileys ice crème desert. Wow. Lamar may not be big city but the Chophouse brought the steak to town. Shout out to Tony. He can make any drink. food was very very average and no where near what the prices should be. no one was present to greet us. we were wandering around the restaurant with no idea where to go. young kids seem to be running this restaurant and were playing around on the job. i kindly requested a table that wasn't in the center of the room and they would not budge meanwhile there were other tables set for 2 elsewhere. read more

The staff went above & beyond to help me make my grandparent's 69th wedding anniversary special! When I called to confirm the reservation, they let me send the gift card to them so they could just apply it to the meal vs. my grandparents having to figure out how to use a digital gift card. Then they greeted with them with a complementary glass of champagne @ & even texted me a picture as I'd requested! This place is a hidden gem!!while on a 3 day road trip from Whitefish to Austin my route took me through Lamar. The steak was not a typically cut fillet but the flavor, cook and tenderness were amazing. The lady that helped me ( sorry, not sure of her name) it was the lady with long dark hair that drives a black Cadillac.) she was outstanding. So welcoming and just the right amount of attention. Nice and clean with a friendly staff. My wife got a western burger and fries and I got the Baja pork chops with a wedge salad. Both were very good. It was a slow night and it was pretty quiet but the music was good and so were the wine and mixed drinks. If your looking for a nice place to sit down and enjoy your meal give it a try. If the steaks were $20 I would give them a 3. Maybe a 4. But they're not. They are $40+. If you're charging premium prices then you should AT LEAST get Outback Steakhouse service. The waitstaff is a joke. A bunch of kids that have never had a good steak and a good drink in their life. Margarita drink was too sweet. Whisky drink too bitter. Shrimp cocktail, a couple were still slightly frozen. Wings served with ranch in plastic container. Our kid wanted macaroni. Waitress said they were out. We ordered mashed potatoes instead. Waitress brought out mushy French fries. We said "we ordered mashed potatoes". Waitress says "Didn't I already tell you we were out of mashed potatoes". Huh?? But wait there's more! Asked if they carried a Malbec and it was like I was speaking Chinese. I got deferred to the wine expert waitress who started to list the wines that they had. "Kendall Jackson", "Clos du Bois", "Yellowtail" she says. I explained that was the NAME of the wine, not the type. She got pissed off. Anyway, probably the best restaurant in Lamar. Just make sure you get buzzed before going and aren't bothered by plastic ranch containers with your $100 dinner. read more
