I like to go to these types of outdoor "malls". This one had a lot of the usual types of stores- Anthropologie, Barnes and Noble, Francesca, a chocolate shop plus numerous restaurants. I actually went to Art in the Park then got some iced tea at the bubble tea shop and walked around. I'm not sure if it's because it was Sunday but I saw multiple stores that weren't open. I've never seen a Southern Living store but I read the magazine. I wasn't happy with the restaurant I tried (Tidal Creek) but I think I'll try getting sushi next time I visit. There was lots of free parking. There also seemed to be a couple cute local businesses and shops, like an artists guild. read more

This is such a nice uptown downtown shopping area. There's the usual chain mall stores, some higher end shops too. Lots of great sport to eat at here, tried the Tupelo Honey Cafe today. It's lined with nice exterior buildings and shops, perfect spot to go for a stroll after lunch on a beautiful sunny day like today. They have lots of places to sit along the walkways. There are benches and rocking chairs scattered about. They have music playing as you walk to the different shops on all the sidewalks. Amplified through their outdoor speakers. There are even public restrooms mattered on the different streets. There's enough parking in the structures as well as on the street. read more

I thought this was an adorable shopping and recreation area. We were visiting on vacation and this place gave me vibes very similar to Shopping areas we have at home (in MD). There is a lake across the street. There is a path/sidewalk to walk around the lake area. There is plenty of seating around the lake including swings which we enjoyed as we watched the geese. For those wanting a workout there is also workout equipment at various points around the lake. We didn't cross the bridge that goes over the lake but there appeared to be more recreation spaces and activities on the other side as well. In the shopping area there are plenty of places to shop and eat. There is a movie theatre as well. This is also a residential area and there are some apartment units atop the stores. There is a playground in the middle of the square and my daughter enjoyed playing on the slides. There is playground equipment for older and younger children (bigger and smaller slides). We enjoyed a free carriage ride around the square. Free carriage rides are offered in the summer on Tuesdays between 6PM - 9PM. There is one carriage so be prepared to wait your turn. We arrived at 6:20 and the line was pretty long but it was enjoyable and worth the wait. We had four adults and a baby and the carriage accommodated us. There was street parking and we found a space without issue or wait. The reason for the 4 and (not a 5) is that there were a couple of wasps nest. As we were waiting for the carriage there were so many wasps flying around, nobody was stung but it was irritating. Lots of spider webs on some of the outside eating spaces. Taking care of those minor things would be helpful and make the space more enjoyable. Other than that everything was fine. read more

I remember when this area was the old, rundown remnants of the old Air Force base. The road leading into it was one lane on each side and the trees grew so very close to the road, it was scary at night. Now this place is hustling and bustling! It's where shopping, dining, and living meet. There's a nice park area and pond to stroll around. There was once a Piggly Wiggly--which was kinda on the high-end side, believe it or not! That has been replaced with a bowling alley. Stores include Barnes & Noble, Charming Charlie, Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, and Anthropology. There are quite a few restaurants--CO, Ultimate California Pizza, Tupelo Honey, King Street Grille and Nacho Hippo. During my undergraduate days at Coastal, I used to frequent P.F. Chang's lunch with my parents. Fun fact--I took my undergraduate graduation pictures here! There's a movie theater, which they place a huge Christmas tree in front of--it makes a great photo backdrop. They are constantly adding to the area--apartments, townhomes, and single family homes. There are even a set of brightly colored homes that look quite similar to the row homes in Charleston. There's plenty of parking with lots and a free garage. But it can still be difficult to find a spot when it's super busy. There's a soccer field. They have festivals from time to time. read more

This review is for the Octoberfest celebration held in Valor park in the Market Commons. There were a variety of vendors selling food, arts and crafts and of course, beer. There was about 8 specialty beers along with the regular fare. A couple of the requisite pumpkin flavored ones (Not for me ) and a wheat, IPA and some darks. For music there was a oompah/polka band which is fun. But the highlight was the band, "Tastes like Chicken" (look them up in Google)! This was the first time I heard them and they were absolutely terrific. They played stuff from their own album and played alot of covers. They also played a wide variety of music. I am now a fan! Overall, a enjoyable day out with friends. read more

Initial thoughts: Selling a cool suburban lifestyle to tourist who may want to settle down. Cons:They closed the local supermarket Piggly wiggly :(. Pros: Great trail and parks for the kiddos. Geese fish and turtles swim in the ponds. Great stores to shop throughout. Many selections for eating and dining. A lovely quiet outdoor mall. Lovely decor and water fountains throughout . So it would appear that some visitors to Myrtle Beach think this is supposed to be some sort of cheap tourist entertainment venue and get upset when it's not. It's a giant outdoor mall centered into a community of homes and parks. That's all. It's not the outlet mall (we have two of those you can go to) and it's not the WalMart/Target (we have those too). Some of the shops are just a touch niche boutique and some are more than a little pricey. It's not a souvenir shop mall either, we have two of those you can go to at Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach. Unlike many parts of our town, parking is free here. They don't even threaten to have you towed for parking in front of the wrong store like so many here do. The food options are good - unless you're looking for fast food or fast food prices. Several eateries offer live entertainment from time-to-time. The movie theater is one of the better in two counties. The outdoor green spaces are unmatched in most of the county. The parks are host to numerous events throughout the year. The BarcPark is huge compared to most others in the area. There's not a gas station in this place! For an example of recovery of vacated industrial space - this is a really nice model. For those who don't know, the entirety of Market Common was Myrtle Beach Air Force Base until the early 90's. The developers turned tons of vacated and ancient buildings into this. They even put up historical markers throughout. read more

Although it's home to a lot of chain stores, they're attractive ones like Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor (not like I shop at Ann Taylor), Williams-Sonoma, Barnes and Noble, and other typical mid to high-end mall shops. If you're in search of clothes, food, or an environment that's less touristy than the heart of Myrtle Beach, Market Common is a good place to check out. I have the same criticism for it that I have for other things in the area... namely, why travel away from home to seek the same business you have at home... but Market Common isn't geared towards tourists. read more

I am not a Myrtle Beach fan being from St Augustine Fl came here to have a taste of BBq in this area and to meet one of the country's Top Chef's Richard Blais. The BBQ well these ae BBQ Team and I guess I tasted maybe 20 ummm sorry did not even taste any smoke in hardly any of them. One of them even tatsed sour? WOW And one was like baby food Mush.. There was one or two that was pretty good . This is a high end market area where Time shares and condos are looking for buyers and the shops are geared for those with very deep pockets. Maybe that is why that brought Richard to bring attention to the place most people there did not even know he was there meeting people. That idea back fired I guess. He had enough police around him( thought he was The President) I guess there are crazy people every where .This is the Place where the state Dog is a Pit Bull there must have been 50 there LOL read more

Market Common is a great little area to walk around and eat or shop. It's set up like a few city blocks and you can park your car for FREE in the garage, and then walk around. I just love the shopping area in Myrtle Beach. I moved down here from Virginia and we had a very similar area and it just makes me feel like home and I'm here. There are a variety of restaurants and boutiques. There's also a great movie theater and there is enough parking all around. There are so many benches around if you just wanna sit and people watch. The Market Common is one of those locations we visit each time we're in MB. An outdoor shopping area with plenty of stores and restaurants is a good way to kill a couple of hours if you are visiting Myrtle Beach. The stores range from brand name like Barnes & Noble, Williams-Sonoma and Bath & Body Works to small, privately-owned boutiques. The miss' loves shopping around at these small little shops that range from women's clothing to crafty home decor. The food at Market Common consists of chains, some I was familiar with and some that I've never dined at. P.F. Changs, Cold Stone and Ultimate California Pizza were nothing new to me, but Nacho Hippo, Tommy Bahamas and Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant were chains that I had never been to, much less heard of. I have to say Nacho Hippo makes some pretty great nachos, and I would highly recommend going there for some late night drinks and snacks. The Market Common does offer more than just shopping and eating. They do have a movie theater there, and it's one of the best I've ever been to with their cheap prices, clean interiors and stadium seating. The Market Commons is also constantly doing special events, including free outdoor movie showings, a farmers market on Saturdays and occasional festivals and other things of that nature. Across the street they also have a large pond and dog park in case you and your furry friend need a break from shopping. The Market Common has plenty to do by featuring a variety of different shops and restaurants. It might not be as extensive at Broadway at the Beach but it's still worth checking out if you're just visiting the area. I would recommend checking out their website before going to see if they have any special events going on before planning your trip out there. read more

I do 99% of my shopping at Kroger, but go to the Pig occasionally to break the supermarket monotony. You know you're getting old when you have supermarket monotony. Sigh... Valor Park is great, and they often hold events here. Movies Under The Stars, Wine and Beer Fests etc. Market Common is an awesome way to shop outside of the souvenir fueled tourist areas. Plus, you can enjoy the fabulous Myrtle Beach weather without being trapped indoors a la mall. read more

It's a cool place to go, I mean, I like the idea and its a nice addition to myrtle beach. Shops, restaurants, bars, movie theatre, apartments and condos, all set in this "main street, USA" theme on a lake surrounded by parks and green space. It's everything you don't have, where you live. A test-tube community, if you will. But I'm sure you'll like it. Not sure if anyone actually does any shopping there, but makes for nice strolling in good weather. Mostly hoity-toity stores and salons. Also good people watching - love watching people from the south trying to parallel park. The real draw here though, is the walkable proximity to restaurants and bars. Nacho hippo, Gordon biersch, king st grill, p.f. changs, travinia, etc... On and on. This live, work, play shopping center is a beautiful breath of fresh air to the run down theme parkish vibe tourist area of Myrtle Beach. Beautiful little boutique shops, delicious restaurants, big name bookstore, cinema, bakery, coffee house and even a modern Piggly Wiggly adorn this master plan area. This is not to be missed!! There is Soo much to be said about this place. The condos are clean and spacious. The surrounding area has any and everything you will need within walking distance. The movies, groceries, restaurants, shopping, play areas for kids and live entertainment. It's a short 5 minute drive to the beach and the staff is courteous. My family and I will definitely be returning. This is a new fave of mine when traveling to Myrtle Beach. read more

I love the Market Commons, but the stores are a work in progress. The movie theater is great, with very comfortable seating. Parking is awkwardly located to the back/side of the stores. Some notable treasures there are PF Changs,Travinia, Cold Stone Ice Cream Shop, Treasure Box Jeweler, Lazy Gator, Barnes & Noble Bookstore and Williams Sonoma. It quite pleasurable strolling up and down the streets with friends and family, while listening to music. The Crepe shop is one nice place for lunch. The Treasure Box has a GIA certified gemologist on site. The Bike Shop is run by Bike Expert David. He is friendly and knowledgeable. City Mac is an Apple store, as well as repair shop. I have had a recent encounter there which was quite favorable. Last but not least is one of my favorite restaurants, PF Changs. Don is one of the most personable and accommodating restaurant managers I've ever come across. The park green is lovely, and last year my favorite festival was the barbecue show down, last summer. I enjoy the festivals that they periodically have. I wish they had a Godiva Chocolatier, a shoe store, a Bakery/Coffee shop and perhaps more concerts on the green for tourists and locals. The price guide should be $$$$. Plan on spending serious money. Orvis try a $150 sweater. If you want to rent an apartment either roommates or be rich. This is not Manhattan, old military duplexes average $1500 monthly. This was supposed to be affordable local housing. A townhouse that pretends to be a NYC Brownstone runs $150 to 500 thousand. Closest groceries are Wal-mart market and Food Lion. All in all either wanna be yuppie in an area that cannot support yuppies and doesn't know this place went out 20+ years ago or sold your house in the North and wish you had kept on to Florida. Locals go to the movies and occasionally the bookstore. The Apple store for phone repair & thats it. The majority of Myrtle Beach can't afford this place or city on average wages of $2.50 an hour for waitstaff or $7.50-$8.00 for retail. We now have homeless & junkies everywhere. Aggressive panhandlers at all the malls and movie theaters have stopped me from going anywhere without being armed. City and County police are a joke. Moving out of this overpriced,taxed state within the month. This is just another overpriced shopping area but walking in the heat instead of a/c or freezing during the Winter. When the airbase closed in 1993 this area lost millions of dollars in jobs in another 20 years the area might recover a livable wage and decent affordable housing. read more
