I love visiting the mansion. I try every couple years. I bring as many as I can that's never been. The restaurant/cafe is expensive. Probably better to take food and have a picnic. (YES ALLOWED). The grounds are impeccable. There's more than the mansion also. The back houses. The farm. There's a trail of art works. Amazing day out. 3 hours in house. 1hr out buildings. Art trail 45 mins. A small bus ride through grounds looking for birds and gliders 10mins. Was the background for The Pirate Movie. Rose Garden available during season rivals any on earth. read more

If you are looking for that "perfect" place to relax and enjoy your surroundings, Werribbe Park and Mansion is that perfect destination - run by Parks Victoria. It is only 30 minutes from Melbourne by car, with plenty of free parking available and the best part is... entry to this magnificent Werribee Park Gardens and Victoria State Rose Garden is FREE. We strolled through the park and absorbed the well laid out landscape of roses in many colours and took time in smelling their fragrances. Plenty of places where you could sit down on their sculpted seats or pick a spot on their luscious green lawn - the area is huge to walk around that enables you to find a suitable piece of lawn to rest upon, under a shade of tree or sunlight - your choice. I even saw a family kicking the ball - a family-friendly place to visit. Many photo opportunities and then there is "The Mansion". You cannot miss the mansion because it truly is a mansion, it was built during the 19th Century (Victorian era) with Italianate architecture style. They do run tours there where you have the opportunity to see inside the Mansion and the history that goes with it, but we chose not to do it, we were quite happy enjoying the free views of 'The Mansion'. There is also a café located near the mansion where you could buy something to eat, have a cuppa or an ice-cream or why not bring along a picnic basket instead? The Mansion at Werribee Park - Landmarks & Historical Buildings Near Me

The mansion is a great day trip for the family. The admission price is low and you can spend a day just walking the grounds.

The mansion is like something out of a tv show - well, technically, it has been used in tv shows -and the gorunds surrounding the mansion are stunning too. The original building was erected in the mid to late 29th century, and has since been added to with wings adjoining the main building. Today, parts of the house are open to public viewing, and rooms are staged with furniture and decor from the same period. Its great to wander around the house and property, and really get a feel for what it must have been like almost 150 years ago, in what would have been classed as rural Vicoria. Another option is to go on the night tour, which brings theatrics, comedy, and information on the property into play.The night tour is a guided tour, accompanied by actors, that take you through the house as though you were all in the 19th century, and the lady of the house has just mysteriously died. It is alot of fun, but it definitely got me wondering about whether or not any real ghost like to hang out there at night too! I vaguely remember visiting the out buildings a longtime ago too, and learning how to make damper on a fire. We have just had a superb weekend at Werribee Mansion. The room may have been slightly on the small side and a little dark for our liking but otherwise the hotel and Joseph's Restaurant were great. We hope to return. read more

Not impressed. Arrived just on 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. Could not get into the hotel as staff were vacuuming and blocking the entrance. Had to wait until they finished. Waited for checkin but receptionist pleasant enough. Paid accommodation in advance -- not a problem as Internet booking and this was the T&C. An additional $100 hold on credit card for "incidentals". Then asked for my card again "for our records". Receptionist could not explain why this was required when we had paid for accommodation and there was a holding amount. Refused to give the card over until there was an adequate reason proffered. None given so receptionist abandoned request. Went to the lifts to go up to the room, lift arrived and before we could get in, staff member with a vacuum cleaner pushed past in front of us. Finally got to room, small but nice. Still not impressed at a $2 charge for pod coffee and $1 charge for milk. Given the room rates, not well thought through. This has not been a happy experience. Was to be a relaxing weekend away but has not lived up to expectations so far. read more
