We found it to be a very pedestrian friendly area with lots of shopping and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. It's only a 15 minute walk away from Reading Terminal Market and City Hall. The building looks like an ordinary government building on the outside. It's a totally different impression once you walk inside of it. I love that each Sofitel is decorated with its own Parisian flair. This one is like walking into a modern art gallery. The Liberté Restobar is to the left and reception area to the right. The vibe and décor are very much in line with all the other Sofitel locations we've visited in the past. The warm greetings in French from the doormen to the reception area are all part of this hotel brand's charm. The service by the staff throughout the hotel & restaurants (Chez Colette & Liberté) were amazing. Our room was a large one with each area separated by French doors. It was a King Corner Suite with a city view. The décor in the living space and bedroom area was a little dark & dated, but very comfortable and clean. There's a separate dressing area with closet space that leads into a large bathroom with a double sink vanity. This one was stocked with L'Occitane products. I must say that I've never seen such an assortment of products from this range in any hotel. This included a buffer luffa glove, bath cubes, makeup removal wipes, lip balm, and hand cream along with the usual soap, lotion, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. You may find different regional products depending on the location of the hotel. I remember enjoying products from Hermes, Lanvin, and Balmain at other Sofitel locations. If anything, this hotel beats all of them in the toiletries department. But, I almost forgot to mention this. They also have Dyson hairdryers. It was my first time seeing one in a hotel room. Loved it! Our housekeeper was always great in getting our room cleaned up early in the day. It was always done by the time we returned from our daily excursions. Our rate included breakfast at Chez Colette. We enjoyed the daily buffet & service. The smoked salmon was probably my favorite of the breakfast items. I wish I could say more. We'd definitely book it again if we ever find ourselves back in Philadelphia. I wish we could have stayed longer.

While we understood that additional arrangements would come at a cost, we were disappointed that there wasn't even a simple "happy birthday" at check-in or a small note in the room. Since the possibility of a special experience was one of the reasons we chose this hotel, it was disappointing that nothing was acknowledged. The location was excellent, with restaurants and parks within easy walking distance. However, the room and amenities had several issues. The air conditioning struggled to keep the room cool, the shower did not drain properly and left us standing in about an inch of water, and the pillows were either extremely flat or uncomfortably firm. The hotel also automatically charged a daily credit, but the options for using it were limited. If you don't drink or order from the lobby bar, there didn't seem to be much available beyond room service, which came from a fairly expensive menu. Even a bottle of water or a small snack would have made the credit more useful. The location was great, but given the lack of attention to our special occasion and the maintenance and amenity issues, we would likely consider another hotel if we return to the area.

There isn't a mini fridge available but they do have a cooling drawer for drinks or small food items. Also appreciated the late checkout option which made it possible for me to leave my bag in the room while I had my appt and come back after to relax a little before my train home A very easy walk to Reading Terminal Market. 5 minutes max. Awesome for a wide selection of lunch/dinner options. I also really liked how it's on a quieter street which makes pick ups and drop offs less chaotic. Overall this was an excellent choice for me and I plan on returning next summer when I have my next appt.

She was social, hospitable and provided recommendations for different things in the city. The hotel is convenient to everything and very walkable. We had a time! The room is spacious enough for two people and has a modern decor. The decor throughout the hotel, however, is like an ode to hip hop culture. If you know me, I love sneakers, hip hop and everything that is the culture! The decor speaks specifically to Philly icons -- Will Smith, Meek Mill, The Roots, Jilly from Philly (Jill Scott), etc. Whoever was the interior decorator did a great job with honoring those icons and the hip hop scene. The restaurant inside the hotel was great too. I don't have any complaints besides the steep valet prices. I will visit again.

We were well aware that the hotel is minimalistic and doesn't come with a lot of bells and whistles; however, we felt like the minimum things a hotel should provide were not provided to us. The air conditioner wasn't working when we got back to our hotel room after a night out in the city. We had set it to 68 and when we returned, the thermometer was still reading 77. We called down to the front desk for assistance and was told that she would check if engineering was available, yet we never heard back from anyone the entire night. When we checked in, we were told that there is someone available 24/7 for any assistance and we learned that this was not the case. Also at check out, we were never asked how our stay was, and our air conditioning issue was never even mentioned which shows that our issue/complaint fell on deaf ears. Overall, it was a very disappointing stay, especially for the price point. The hotel didn't seem like it was ready for opening week and should not be charging the prices it's charging for the level of service provided. For just a little bit more, we could've stayed somewhere nicer. We will definitely not be staying here again.

I loved my experience with Kestrel Hotel…read more Booking was easy. I booked and paid for the room and a spot to park in their two car garage online. Fifty percent was taken out right away, the rest about a week before. The Kestrel Hotel provided detailed instructions, about a week out, on how to check in. It is all done electronically. You enter the hotel and room via a code. Instructions were very clear, I had no issue. The room I stayed in consisted of a bed, full stove and refrigerator, a small sitting table with two chairs, an oversized chair by the bed, a large closet, a booklet full of local recommendations and full bathroom. The kitchen was stocked with oil and vinegar, a bag of pre-ground coffee from Elixr Coffee Roasters, a Chemex and kettle to make a pour over and some canned drinks (which I didn't touch so I can't vouch for them). The bathroom featured body wash and shampoo from a local soap place. During the stay, emailed instructions arrived about how to properly use the climate features in the room. On the day of checkout, another email arrived detailing how to take care of my garbage and what I needed to know to properly check out. The location is awesome. It is right around the corner from the Underground Arts venue. Elixr Coffee is nearby. It is just a short walk to Reading Terminal Market, Chinatown, Broad Street and the Center of the City. I enjoyed my stay so much, I've already booked another night there in September.

It's also a great neighborhood, with some really impressive restaurants and a much more interesting vibe. We stayed in the Baller Jawn, whatever that means, and it was wonderful. The owners were very responsive, and helped us out with a snafu we had. This, basically, is what a hotel for adults is/should actually be like. A fantastic experience, private and roomy, convenient, all the things. I just loved this place, and will stay there from now on whenever I'm in Philly.

TL;DR: Great space, but probably wouldn't stay here again mainly due to noise…read more I first heard of this place via Google AI before checking Google, Yelp, and Reddit reviews. Not as much feedback as larger hotel chains, but everything I found was pretty positive. For the dates I was booking I had 2 ground-floor options available, one facing Front St., and another facing the rear. I chose the rear to reduce street noise. First impression of this place was amazing. The space felt more like a tastefully decorated studio apartment than a hotel. The appliances are modern, bathroom spacious, and everything seemingly clean. However, there were 2 immediate issues that put me off a bit: Firstly, I booked an extra day due to arriving on a red-eye with the hopes that the room would be good-to-go in order to catch up on some rest. However, I noticed right away that the HVAC was turned off and it was a fairly cold morning. I turned on the heat, but after waiting 2 hours there was no noticeable change in temperature. I will say the hotel was very responsive to my text messages, and were able to fix the issue remotely once I did reach out. Secondly, none of the outlets in the unit worked. I'm unsure if was related to the HVAC problem, but I was eventually able to locate the circuit breaker and noticed the circuits for the outlets were either tripped or turned off. Between the HVAC and electrical issues- any hope I had on catching up on rest was destroyed. The final issue that sealed the deal for me not returning was the noise. In fairness, our unit(#2) is adjacent to not only the main entrance, but also the rear faces a common space. There is a little patio/garden area that at first glance seems like it might be private, but due to a lack of a gate/door- I presume it is a common space. Look, I lived in NYC for a decade and am no stranger to noise, but this was beyond tolerable. During both nights we stayed, but especially the first night where we were already sleep deprived, noise was a huge issue for my partner and I. Between the hours of 1am to 3:30am 2 drunk guys entered and exited at least a dozen times. I don't know if they were on a coked up, late-night scavenger hunt or what, but what I do know is one was named Will from hearing it repeatedly. At 2:30am they decided it was a good time to stand outside our window rambling about nothing. We were able to fall asleep around 4am to be woken up promptly at 6am with music blasting and someone shouting. I don't know if the morning noise was from a nearby business or another guest, but the end result was no more than 2 hours of sleep before a wedding. I texted the hotel and they again responded very promptly saying they'd look into it, but I never received any follow up. EDIT: No such follow up was promised to me, but would have been helpful. All in all, the space itself is fantastic and hotel very responsive, but due to a few misses in attention to detail and the noise, I would not return to this location. Also, look- I understand that noise from other guests is beyond the immediate control of the hotel staff. The staff was responsive, friendly, and helpful. The review reflects only my willingness to recommend another person stay here based on my experience, and not at all on the staff. EDIT: In response to the reply from the hotel: I just checked my phone and email and can confirm that I did not receive any such follow up. Perhaps it was to the wrong number? Either way I did appreciate the quick responses. I also changed from 2 star to 3. 2 is too harsh given the crux of my complaint was beyond the hotel's control- and given the staff's friendliness.

It was absolutely packed when we went. Every gallery on First Friday tends to have its own style and the artists they feature reflect that. This one leaned more toward pop art. Bright colors, bold graphics, and pieces that mix humor with commentary. Some of the works had pretty sharp messages that feel very tied to the current cultural moment. Because it was so crowded, my friend and I didn't stay too long. There were also quite a few tables with leftover food and half finished beers sitting out that hadn't been cleaned up yet, which made the space feel a little messy. It might just be because the turnout was bigger than expected. Still, it was cool to see the hotel participate and turn the space into a gallery for the night. Worth popping into if you're already doing the First Friday rounds.

I stayed at this hotel while attending a business conference at the Convention Center. It was only…read moreabout a 10-minute walk to the conference, which made the location very convenient. During my research, they had decent reviews on my company website 3.6/5. When I first arrived, I was a little hesitant because my Uber driver dropped me off in what looked like an alley. The entrance isn't very obvious, and the building resembles an industrial office more than a hotel. However, I appreciated that the hotel requires a keypad for entry after certain hours, which added an extra sense of security. The front desk staff was friendly and welcoming throughout my stay. The common areas, kitchen, bathrooms, and closets were all clean and well maintained. The door uses a key less lock. There are also lockers in the hallway - I am assuming if someone arrives earlier than check in, they can utilize those lockers for their luggage. The elevator is older and moves very slowly, but the staircase is easily accessible. They have a roof top and gym, but I didn't get the chance to check it out after a long days at the conference. Some criticism - Upon arrival, I was assigned a room on the second floor. At first glance, everything appeared clean, but when I pulled back the blanket, I noticed a strong perfume scent and found short hairs scattered across the bed sheets. I went to the front desk to request fresh linens and brought the used sheets with me. Unfortunately, they didn't have an extra fitted sheet available, so they provided several flat sheets instead, and I improvised for the night since it was so late and I was weary from flying all day. The following morning, housekeeping came and replaced all of the bedding. I assume the hotel was fully booked since I wasn't offered a different room. The floors themselves and the rug was not very clean. The bottom of my shoes were extremely dusty. Other than that initial issue, my stay was comfortable, and the hotel's convenient location and friendly staff made it a good choice for attending a conference. Maybe I'll opt to stay at a Bonvoy partner next time since I'm more familiar with them and I won't have too many surprises.
