Ian who works there has a wealth of knowledge of carrousels and gave out a lot of great information and history about one of the world's oldest amusement rides. This is such a fun place to visit. You will enjoy it whether you are 8 or 80! And it is all free!…read more The parking lot is huge, but if you have someone with mobility difficulty, make sure you drop them off, because once you get in you will need to do a bit of walking as well. When you enter the building, you get lanyards and can visit a station to register. When you register, it takes your picture and tracks the various activities you do throughout the exhibits. You don't have to do this, but it is a fun step to see the results of your various activities and pictures at the end. You proceed down a long walkway with amazing views of the Niagara River and Lewiston Queenston Bridge. During December, they have a festival of trees which line the hallway with trees decorated by local organizations. It was a fun touch! There are a variety of information panels along the way. When you enter the main area, you proceed down the escalator (or elevator) to the main exhibit area. There is a movie about the power authority (and power in general) that I recommend starting off with. There is also a fun 4d simulator ride! If there isn't a staff person at the ride, you can go to the information desk and ask someone and they will get you in. There are interactive sections where you work through a variety of situations (like working to keep and restore power to a fictional town). There is also a cool cave like walk through that talks about the geology of the gorge area. We spent about two hours here because my kids were insistent on doing every activity. But you could spend less time if there wasn't as much interest. A highlight was the literal hair raising Van De Graff generator. Staff walk you through the safety protocol and then you get to experience your hair standing straight up! It was really a fun touch. You can go out on the balcony area for some stunning views or a quick break from the action. I also learned that they host birthday parties or other gatherings here. What a unique idea! If you want to learn more about electricity or are just looking for something unique to do, this is a great place to visit.

The long hallway going over the Niagara Scenic Parkway, that you have to walk to get to the power vista fun exhibits, is lined with Christmas trees decorated by local organizations like the girl scouts, people Inc., etc.. It's fun to see how they choose to decorate incorporating their organizations purpose. It's different every year. Many handmade ornaments showcasing the talents of individuals, many who benefit from the organization. I always get a few new ideas to use by seeing their creativity. Plus you can still so the rest of the power vista fun things like the simulator ride. Free admission, free parking....what more could you want?

A nice little nature reserve hidden in a busy area. Although it's not as large as other nearby…read morenature reserves, it has two playgrounds, each labeled for children of different age groups. There's also picnic tables, plenty of parking, shade, and a trail. There's also a welcome center but we didn't go inside during our visit. Overall we enjoyed our walk and I'd definitely come here again.

This place is the definition of an instagrammable summer spot! As the name implies, this is a HUGE…read moresunflower field, and the sights are incredible. Nothing beats yellow heads of petals, taller than you are, as far as the eye can see! Well, depending on how tall you are, they either tower over you, or are the size of your peers. There is a nice path through the main field, with plenty of opportunity to snap beautiful photos of yourself, your family and friends, or the flowers themselves. Be prepared to bring rubber boots or closed toed shoes if it has rained recently, as the pathway is in a field of dirt! There is a second side where there are all sorts of photo opp items to see, including my favorite, a bright pink tractor! There's painted boards with cut outs for your face, and lots of farm equipment dispersed throughout. You can grab food from the multiple food trucks/stands on the property, sit and eat under their many large tents with tables and benches. There are the typical trinkets and toys for kids to purchase, and they have a big mining setup, which my kid absolutely adores. He spent over 20 minutes just playing with the water! There are other activities throughout the season but we didn't check them out, we opted for a quieter trip where we could walk, and the crowd was smaller. It does get crowded, so plan accordingly! If you have children who can't walk too far, bring a wagon or stroller, but make sure it has big, rugged wheels! And of course, you can choose to cut your own flowers in the cutting field, or you can grab a pre-cut bouquet if you prefer. Also, you can feel free to dry the seeds from the flowers you purchase, and plant them next year- keeping a sunflower patch in perpetuity from just one trip- but that's the gardener in me giving advice. I personally grow a variety of sunflowers in my garden every year, but always enjoy coming to this place to see the majesty of all these flowers in one spot. This is a must do in the summer, at least once!

I stumbled upon this awesome concert in my attempt to walk off my dinner…read more I've lived in the area for years and didn't even know this concert series was going on in my own backyard. The concert series is in its 17th year and I've been in Buffalo for the last 12! Talk about clueless! No wonder finding parking for dinner was such a pain! It was a lot of fun and the crowd was great. There were people of all ages and dogs too! There were also some people hula hooping too. The crowd was super chill and did I mention dogs? I love dogs and I find my happy place when I'm around them. The concerts are on the green space at Elmwood and Bidwell every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and free to the public. Lloyd's was there along with the Ice Creamcycle guy, Gelateria Luca, and Ashker's. The Elmwood Village Association was also there for any interested folks to join the association and collect donations. I'm looking forward to Neville Francis and the Riddim Posse! Last concert of the season is August 12th. Parking was a bit of a pain in the immediate area but if you're not afraid of walking 2 minutes, then there's parking aplenty. There was parking down by Forest Ave., on the side streets, and on Elmwood past Bidwell. Be prepared to parallel park like never before.

People have elaborate spreads or food from the surrounding restaurants. It can be as easy as you want or as fancy as you please. This is a simple fun filled family affair. If you haven't done it, your missing out.

Well in town we heard about this festival with so many different events talking place, had to check…read moreit out. Plenty of street parking nearby Grant Street for easy access. You need to purchase food tickets because the food vendors do not take cash. We decided to check things out before buying and tickets... so many different times of food.. the smell alone was amazing! Lot's of samples to be had before purchasing. I had bought some fresh made bread and stuffed potatoes so good! I got to try the samosa.. supper crispy and cuban pulled pork, They had a lot of water actives going on, mostly for the kids. Lot's of spraying water toys and balloons everywhere. But with the weather being so warm it was refreshing. There was a few stages with a daily schedule. We got to hear a poetry slam with four people that were very talented and really made you think. Also some dancers with beautiful outfits on. Could only spend about and hour and a half here, but it was great. Love how the community all gets together to celebrate the things we all love like food and entertainment.

This is my third year (first time tabling for the WNY Peace Center) attending, and, as expected,…read morethe food hit the spot. This is a fabulous event where people of all ages, nationalities, cultures, and ethnicities unite for good food, good music, good performances, and a good time. Everything was amazing, though the Ethiopian spot was definitely a crowd favorite. I look forward to attending again next year with more friends (we brought some). My only critique is that the Cuban place that participated the last couple years wasn't there (I didn't see them). :(

Well. I have lots of things to say lol. First, hubby and I JUST finished our paintings and I. FEEL…read more DRAINED LOL. Second, this was both of our first time attempting a painting class at this volume. I've been wanting to attend a Painting with a Twist class for awhile and waited for the best one! Baby Yoda! Third, there are a lot of things to mention and I want to do it now even though I'm parched (ironic, i know) and feel overwhelmed, because I don't want to forget anything. So, you're greeted with a welcome and given instructions to swap your coat for an apron and you can grab cups and small paper plates for your beverages and food, if you bring any. You're also told where your seat is and your name is written on the table. The class was a lot of fun! But also, overwhelming. The pace was pretty quick and at times felt too fast. You definitely don't have time to lolly gag or really take a sip of your beverage. Forget a snack, no time. I think if you think less about each step as you're painting, it'll feel less overwhelming and you'll have time to drink something in between, which I highly recommend! But that's easier said than done because you want your painting to come out perfect. Other things that made it feel overwhelming is the music was playing kind of loud while the instructor was talking and then other people talking over all of that and some people singing. At times I sang a little (not loudly). What can you do, but have fun? Also, not being able to see what/how the instructor is painting because the screens are too far away or someone is blocking your vision. *Tip for the business- Have a picture of the painting at every station so everyone can at least see how your painting is supposed to look because it's hard to see details from far away.* The main points: As the instructor told us, don't forget to breath! Which I did a lot lol. I forgot to breath. Don't fret, it'll look great in the end when it all comes together and you can always blend things out with a sponge. Take a couple sips of your beverage every few steps, because I feel super dehydrated! Have fun! It's just painting and it's meant to be fun!
