Rent here if you want your time and money to be wasted entangled in a web of incompetence You're probably reading this as you do research on your next home in Bellevue and wonder if the Madison Bellevue is worth your while. In short: Only choose to live here if you desire to have your precious free time and money wasted at the Madison Bellevue. The benefit of proximity to Downtown Bellevue and Crossroads is minuscule in comparison with the number of headaches this place has caused me. I look back on the string of emails I have sent to the office and wonder what renting gods I have upset to deserve this. When I first researched on places to live in Bellevue, I gave them the benefit of doubt. A two and half star rating wasn't good but every place deserves an honest shot right? Nope, they really deserve the 1-star rating. Actually, the real question is if 0 stars were possible, what fraction of a star would I choose to give? The fraction of the star comes from its location to work, businesses at Crossroads, and the bus stop right in front of the complex. The apartments themselves are rennovated and have the standard amenities but something about the $200+ cleaning fee I was charged only after living there for three months makes me wonder if the apartment has a magical ability to spawn its own layer of filth and disgust to warrant such a cost. I had a short term lease and lived in such a temporary manner that many of my kitchen cabinets remained empty. Take a good look at your deposit and expect to never see it again. I'm not sure if it's the turnover of staff or the general culture of the apartment's office but take any reasonable request and be ready to wait 3x as long. Want a refund check? Be emotionally and financially ready to wait months! It's an exercise of Murphy's Law and your patience when attempting to get your money back. It's the modern equivalent of yelling into a void and just grasping for a sliver of hope that someone at the Madison Bellevue will reply in a timely manner. There's no sense of accountability in the office either. Every administrative error made by the office just leads to blame games, misinformation, or staff not following through with what they promise. Coming into the office to get an issue resolved feels like customer service hot potato where they throw you around to different people, agencies, and phone numbers hoping you just leave and dump your money to them as quickly as possible. Will I also mention that the general behavior of other residents is pretty disappointing? There's screaming children from the moment that you wake up to when the sun sets. Toys and other things are just scattered on property sidewalks and driveways and there really seems to be no regard for other residents. The number of times I have seen children run into the parking lot at full speed with cars trying to pull in and their parents only a few feet away makes my heart need to be to restarted. For an "apartment community", there really is no sense of that when many residents act like they are the only people living in the complex. If you are unfortunate enough to come into the office when a certain associate has her shift, you have my deepest condolences. I don't think I have ever met someone in service who has such little desire to actually serve people. Questions asked are left "answered" with condescension, impatience, and inaccuracies. During one conversation to resolve a billing issue, she stormed out of the office multiple times because she seemed physically incapable of helping us. Ask for clarification on an answer to a question she gives, she walks out flustered. Ask her for a copy of something digitally for your records, she will impatiently slam her hands on the computer keyboard and tell you it cannot be done. Ask for a printed copy and she will tell you she is out of paper. In our interactions with her, I honestly thought I was being Punk'd or was going to get featured on the ABC show "What Would You Do?". One major highlight during my time with the Madison Bellevue was when she required my roommate and I to sign a form to resolve a paperwork issue. When we returned it to her, she had the nerve and tenacity to insinuate that we forged our own signatures! So in short, save your time and money. There are so many options out there in Bellevue and this should be at the bottom of your list. Actually it shouldn't even be on your list at all! For the small number of benefits of the Madison Bellevue, I would not wish the headache of this establishment on friends or enemies. read more

We went to tour the Madison with Flo, who is really nice and helpful even after we had to reschedule our tour last minute because most apartments doing the self guided tour nowadays and we got lost at some of them. We moved from a high rise apartment community and are loving this community. The location is great as it's near the crossroads mall. The community is nice and gives an open feel unlike other communities which have buildings very close by blocking the sunlight. The maintenance team is responsive. I'm not a fan of giving one star to any business because of the fact that people associated with the business put in some hard work. I don't think Madison Bellevue apartment community even deserves one star. Below are the reasons why - 1. 12 months lease extension results in straight $200 increase in rent per month. 2. They will lose your packages, label them with incorrect apartment number and then argue with you that they have not received the package. Happened to me twice with my Fedex package. 3. You will be promised moons and stars when you are there for the apartment viewing but the management wont even say Hi once you are trapped and you move in. I don't blame whole management because the manager is a nice sensible person. I don't shy away from calling people out - FLO is the person you must try to stay away from. She will put in her sales pitch in and trap you but be wise and make your own judgement. FLO does not have customer service skills period. 4. Your water bill will vary a far too much, would you want to pay 180-200 for water and sewage for every two months? 5. Forget about email communication with leasing team because they will certainly not respond you. 6. Your neighbors will leave their strollers and bags in the hallway. We contacted leasing office a multiple times and I doubt an action was taken. 7. On two different occasions, when we reached home, our garage door was wide open without our consent. It was not an technical error but someone from the staff used the wrong remote to open garage while showing !!! 8. Cleaning fee: A cleaning fee of $210 will be charged to you when you vacate, no matter how clean you leave the apartment. The cleaning fee is technically charged when there is good amount of damage to carpets, kitchen shelves or if you drilled holes in the wall. So basically, forget about your $200 deposit that you pay when you move in. 9 Month to month: we pay 2300 for 2bhk w garage. We don't want to extend the lease for 12 months and we don't have any other option but to pay insane amount of $3923 for month to month. STOP RIPPING PEOPLE OFF! It is my sincere advise to my fellow Amazonians and Microsoft neighbors to choose any shitty place over this community because you don't want to deal with such expenses, hassles and terrible customer service. read more

This has got to be the worst place I've ever rented, and I lived in a lot of apartments throughout my life. First of all it is like living inside an elementary school. There are always children playing in the hallways, running through the adult workout room, and screeching at the top of their lungs. If you don't have kids, I highly suggest you don't move here. It is NEVER quiet here. Parents don't seem to ever be parenting their kids. Kids stay up all hours of the night. The walls are extremely thin so you can hear the people above you constantly. If you live by the stairwell, you can literally feel the vibrations from people clammering up the stairs from your bed. We moved our bedroom to the smallest space in our apartment in order to get away from the stairs, but you can still hear it. We have a white noise machine to help deaden the sound of our neighbors but you can still hear them regardless. Residents are extremely disrespectful of the neighbors and don't care if the 7 children playing in the hallway is bothersome to other residents. Management has got to be the most incompetent people around and I've watched them go through several managers during the time I've been here. They couldn't even remember what garages they assigned residents to and had to ask everyone again. We had a fridge that leaked for the first 6 months we lived here before it was fixed. When you email management they say they will get back to you and then never do, despite you telling them how frustrating that is. They charged me for pet rent after my pet died and said they needed a death certificate of proof she died. My vet ended up calling them! We complained about children being in the workout room unsupervised but nothing came of it. Basically residents do whatever they want, walk in the middle of the street 7 wide with their strollers and don't move over to let the cars through, walk right behind your car as you are backing up and expect you to stop as opposed to watching out for vehicles ( you know, since you are walking in front of the garages!), leave grocery carts and strollers all over the property, etc.. This place looks beautiful but it is poorly crafted and the residents are the worst I have ever experienced in my life. This place is a shit show. It's amazing that you can pay such an outlandish price for rent and have such a terrible experience with management and the residents. Most people want to come home from work and relax, not deal with other peoples kids playing in the hallway and screaming. Oh and I'd think twice about swimming in that beautiful pool because its been closed before for kids shitting in the pool. Like I said, this place is a shit show. It seems nice to be able to have packages delivered to the office, however people take forever to sign them in and email you that they are are even there, and then when you come pick them up, they finish with new residents before they will grab your package. Like another reviewer said, once you are a resident they don't care what you need anymore. You know the place is not doing well when they constantly are offering $750 off rent to refer a friend. Maybe if they actually respected their residents and treated people in a professional manner they wouldn't need to promote discounts all the time because the place could sell itself in looks alone. It should more appropriately be called, "refer an enemy," because noone would refer a person they actually liked to a place like this. My wife and I moved here in March 2014 after the apartments were newly remodeled and we have really enjoyed living here. The rent is a little higher than the other communities around but I think it is justified. The apartments all have brand new stainless steel appliances, fresh paint and new carpets. They have really re-done them to feel like new homes and this for me justifies the slightly higher rent. The location is also fantastic with crossroads mall right across the street with loads of store, QFC for groceries, Bartell for medicines, Ace for hardware and lots of Indian stores and restaurants within walking distance. The bus stop being right outside also really helps since there's direct connectivity to downtown Bellevue and OTC. The apartments themselves are warm and cozy. There is plenty of natural light because of the huge windows and patio door. The community itself is extremely safe and friendly with most tenants being families. They also have a lot of free open parking which is a huge plus. The staff at the leasing office is extremely friendly and are always willing to help you with any problems or requests. They also have a super friendly maintenance staff who are not only prompt with fixing things but also keep the community spotless clean, lawns mowed and will always greet you happily when they see you around. I would highly recommend living here. read more

FILLED WITH ROACHES. INCOMPETENT AND IRRESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT. Please avoid this apartment!!! I initially chose this apartment for its proximity to Crossroads Mall and the units I was shown model apartments which were relatively new. When I signed the lease and went for the move-in inspection, I found so many issues to be fixed. Almost all cabinets had some kind of water damage, the microwave was not working, and there was a plank of wood protruding out in the bathroom. Above all this, in the bright day time, we did see few roaches. We complained this to the management and said we cannot move-in until all these issues were fixed and asked for an alternate apartment. But the leasing office people kept saying they need their manager's approval, who was on vacation all that week and never responded to emails too. And the real state of the apartment unit was seen only that night, when we saw an army of roaches coming out of EVERYWHERE: kitchen, bathrooms, and even bedrooms. We were not given any alternate arrangement and the manager never replied to the emergency. The people working in the leasing office are incompetent to solve any issue you report, and they will just say "We don't know. sorry!". After having an unpleasant experience, I quit the apartment in JUST ONE WEEK. The management will not respond to any request or criticism, so please do not move in here. Probably the worst place I've ever rented. I should have known from the start. They took almost a month to sign my lease, I had to change my moving date and call the leasing office every single day because they wouldn't have the leasing papers ready yet. I decided to be patient and stay because I really loved the apartment and it was a great price. Living there was actually pretty good. Apartments are nice and new, although the appliances are not. Fast forward to my lease renewal, and a 400+ USD increase. I decided to move and asked for my deposit back. They took 3 months! I would call them and get no response at all. Then they would say they would call back, and nothing. And in the end I get 25% of my deposit back because they say they had to paint the whole apartment even though I didn't paint over any of the walls! It's a shame the apartments are so nice, because management in this building completely sucks. Keep your money away from this place. read more

Pros: 1. Location. I can literally walk to anything I would need. 2. Apartments and community is nice for families. 3. Gym and indoor swimming pool. 4. They have weekly guided fitness classes provided by the trained professionals. 5. Maintenance staff is good and would fix issues asap. Cons: 1. The walls are thin, so you can literally hear everything around. 2. The gym is not 24*7 which is not feasible anymore. 3. The equipment in apartments are old and not well functioning(washer/dryer) even in the newly constructed ones as they promote it. 4. The neighbors aren't really considerate of the fact that public places are supposed to be treated like that. You will find shoes (without even a rack!), strollers, packages and what not in the corridor and kids would be playing carelessly in the parking area! People would be talking in the open space at 2 am and like I said since walls are thin, you can hear everything! Their needs to be some kind of strictness on using the public space. 5. Neighbors don't seem to understand the bare fact that if they have kids that don't mean they have all the privileges. You can find kids running around everywhere. Roller skating in corridors, running around in gyms unsupervised, running in the houses with thin walls. My furniture literally shakes when the kid below us runs and he does that all day long everyday! So, to sum it up, the apartments are okay, neighbors could be better! read more

No. Just no. Trust us, no. The apartments are beautiful (we live in one of the newer 1 Bedrooms) and the location is great, but this place could be the Taj Mahal and I'd still say NO just because Management is so terrible. Andrea is the only person in the office who isn't a giant bummer - she's attentive, friendly, and pretty much the only one with any idea what's going on, ever. Like others, we had a freaking ridiculous move-in process - it got to the point that we'd only call when Andrea was working because everyone else was so terrible. We too had to fill out applications THREE times - once completed online, once via email and once in person when we got here. We too had issues with appliances not being installed correctly, with keys that didn't actually work, etc. We added a garage to our lease, but then the garages weren't actually available until a month after we moved in, despite the fact that we paid to have one. We've yet to get access to something when management promises it will be available - never has that happened. Really it's just been fun times all around. Also, the more we look at our lease (since we hate it here and are considering leaving early), the more we realize how many ridiculous provisions they've written into it - they added an addendum that completely reverses their policy for barbecues (which, by the way, doesn't actually match Bellevue fire codes). There's an addendum that says our dog can't go to the bathroom on the grounds - like, what?! What apartment complex allows (and charges for) pets but explicitly forbids them from going to the bathroom on the property? The list goes on and on. From here on out we fully intend to be the most pain-in-the-ass tenants ever, and we might break our lease and move out. Do yourselves a favor and stay far away. read more

I hate to leave a less than positive review of the place because the location is great and the new apartments are truly beautiful, but I really feel like they are cheaply made. I rarely do anything in my living room because I can hear everything that the people above me are doing, moving furniture, walking, opening and closing drawers, washing/drying clothes, etc. as well as noise from the hallways and stairwell. Heels on a wooden floor in the stairwell reverberate through the wall, and serve as a morning alarm clock, 0630 every weekday. I know that is not too bad...unless I stayed up working until 3am the night before... I really hate how noisy it is for how much rent is. It drives me crazy. Amanda, the manager, has become really involved in taking care of complaints. She responds quickly and takes action. However, she is the only person I reach out to if I have any issues. She is the only one who has shown she cares about your complaints. I also love living here because it is not downtown and it is walking distance from grocery stores, banks, dining, a park. I am a Microsoft employee who relocated internationally to Washington with Microsoft. I was looking for a unfurnished apartment to rent. I came across The Madison Bellevue Apartments and paid their leasing office a visit. It was such a terrible experience. First of all, they list a lot of amenities on their website: http://www.madison-bellevue.com/p/apartments/amenities_5085/bellevue-wa-98007/the-madison-bellevue-5085. However, the fact of the matter is that none of these amenities exists yet. Their agent told us that all of these amenities were work in progress and were expected to become available in a year's time. They offered us a 50 dollar monthly refund of the rent to compensate for the absence of any gym or sports facility. Having a 5 year old daughter, I asked the agent about the elementary school associated with their address but she didn't know. We liked the model 2 bedroom 2 bathroom unit that she showed us so we decided to fill out an application and pay a deposit to take it off the market for a day or two - which is a widely adopted tradition we have experienced with each and every property owner we have met throughout the Puget Sound area. She helped us fill out the application and pay the deposit (a total of ~450 USD application fee + security deposit + some other deposit type I cannot remember now). We asked her if part of this amount was refundable in case we need to cancel the application, she replied that she would talk to her manager about it in case we need to. After speaking with a couple of friends who spent some time in town, we decided not to proceed with the application at Madison Bellevue, communicated with the agent to inform her of our intent and asked her to talk to her manager as promised for a partial refund of the 450 USD we paid. She replied saying that: "Unfortunately, I have already prepared your file and ran applications I am unable to refund any money to you." It was an outright terrible experience. read more

I really like how the complex is located in Bellevue kind of between all the hustle and bustle of downtown and a bunch of other places: good location overall. We didn't want to live IN downtown Bellevue, and this was just minutes by car and much more private than the apartments available in the "city" area... more our speed! This used to be a pretty good place but there was a complete change over of management in Nov. 2012 and the new staff is incompetent. They communicate poorly. They make promises that things will happen on certain dates and then break the promises. On 4 occasions they have broken promises to me about the date I can transfer to a new apartment down the hall. They did it again today (3 days after saying that today would absolutely be the day I could move). Now I have to un-transfer my utilities. They don't show the slightest concern at how they've inconvenienced me. These people apparently don't even have an accurate list of which apartments are occupied. On multiple occasions I come home to find that they have posted notices on the doors of vacant apartments. Just last week there was a notice on 3 doors telling the residents they must turn in their keys right away. But all 3 of those apartments have been vacant for weeks. read more

BAD! BAD! BAD! I don't know from where to start ... Property: Constructions everywhere.. you can find nails, screws, wires everywhere in the apartment buildings yes everywhere.. in the lobby, outside of your apartment door, stairs everywhere... entrance lobby for most of the buildings is dirty with spots on walls and broken lights, often power and water cuts without notice. Management Company: Do they really have one..!! every time you go to leasing office you see new faces with rude attitude who never wants to help you. for every question their standard answer: We don't know, will check with our manager. and if you have any ongoing problem then first you need to explain the history to management folks every time you complain + every billing statement will have errors and additional charges, so be ready for a visit to leasing office every time you need to pay rent. Maintenance Staff: its impossible to understand maintenance persons talks, all you understand is he will ask hi supervisor, and who is the supervisor is a mystery Utilities: Get ready to pay ridiculous amounts for utility bills, I have been charged $343 per month for water and sewer (only for 2 residents), and don't expect any help from management company regarding heavy utility bills, they says "Its between you and the utility company". Well I guess residents have to pay construction water consumptions along with their usage. + 90% of the residents are Indians/Asians, so don't expect and cleanliness, hygiene and parking and road etiquettes. DO expect wrong parkings, people and kids walking/running on the roads, cars running at 30 MPH within community. read more

Worst move-in experience of our lives. The heater has been broken since we moved in one month ago (two different repairmen have come out, beginning THREE WEEKS after move in, not yet fixed), and it's December. Endless hassles. We turned in our application via email then had to resend all of our personal, secure information again, piecemeal, in separate emails (when asked if they had lost our application, they denied it, but that's the only explanation that makes sense). They didn't notice our dog on our application and so neglected to charge us for our pet deposit, then tried to get us to pay to have him boarded until we could pay it the next week, even though it was their error (at least they worked with us when we refused, as we had done our part reporting him). The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing in the office (example: one week after the pet deposit was paid in full, I got an email asking when we were going to come pay it. So are there no records of $425 payments made in person kept in the office?! That's alarming.) You need to submit rabies vaccine records for your pet, they tell us a week later, fine, no problem. Then you have to go get your dog weighed somewhere to prove he weighs what you say he does (ours is a corgi-westie mix, not a great dane, for crying out loud). Nothing was ready when we physically arrived at the apartment. The counters had been wiped off, the carpet vacuumed but not shampooed, it has a foul odor that has not faded. They sprayed a horrible air "freshener" before move in that smelled like cheap cologne and has only just started to fade one month later (despite opening all the windows in the winter weather to try and air it out), the smell gave me headaches and nausea, that's how strong it was. Little things that could have easily been fixed before we arrived (we gave plenty of notice before we moved) had not been done. The staff member who showed us the place said she had already noted the broken toilet seat, broken medicine cabinet, etc. Nothing was done about it, so we had to call in a work order to remind them a week later, it was the first they'd heard about it in the office. So "noting" the problems apparently just meant pointing them out to us without taking any action to have them fixed. The shower drain was clogged full of hair, the bathroom mirror is chipped around the edges,and the sliding door lock is still malfunctioning. Every week we get an email from the office and wonder what fresh hell it will bring. If we weren't expecting a baby in a couple of months we would just find someone to take over this lease and move, but there's no time for that now, so we'll have to wait (and stay in touch with various tenants'rights organizations in the area). We moved in the middle of Feb 2015 due to us getting a discounted rate in rent for the construction and construction mobile home being in front of our unit as well as being treated by the honey bucket. We were told it should all be done by July and not to worry. We also choose this place because we were told there would be an indoor pool and ready by July. NOT. Well let me tell you. Good news is they moved the honey bucket. It's still embarrassing to have guest over due to the construction mobile home being parked right in front of your place and You have the wonderful ambiance of the crap all over from the construction. But hey if your guest need to use the restroom and someone is using your toilet they can step out front and use the honey bucket. There is no grass out front or plants. Just dirt. Mailboxes suck! But hey if you go where the leasing office is or by all the construction the landscaping is beautiful. I was told I could always move to the new apartments (pay an extra $700) I don't think so. However she could have been joking with me. Lots of change in the office staff and it appears they have no idea what they are doing and can be very unprofessional and rude. Maintenance is great - he is solo and works his butt off! Wendy and Andrea are great but the newbies need LOTS of training and how to talk/work with people. The blinds are cheap and trust me no matter what you do they will get messed up. You are charged $10 per car for parking - first come first serve no assigned parking. What the hell are you charging parking for? Be Careful where you park the trees leave a great coat of sap. Now if you don't mind hearing your upstairs neighbors doing laundry or vacuuming then your good. If you don't care about BBQing then your good cause it's not allowed here. If you don't care that there is nowhere for your child to play this is the place for you. If you don't mind not having grass and just dirt well this is the place for you. If you don't mind the hallways smelling musty. This is the place for you. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The apartments are in good locations new but only one bath room. Many problems experienced there. Random water and electricity outages. High facility bills. Very bad maintenance staff. Constructions run everywhere from 7:00 am. Unsafe, many theft happened and no patrols or security cameras installed. read more

We have been here till 2014. A Wonderful place to stay. The Location of the apartment is very good. Its close to Crossroads mall, Bus stop, Bartell Drugs which is very convenient.The Maintenance staff is very good and are very prompt in their response. They have enough parking space but all of it is open. They are a bit pricey but considering the location it's fine.The only negative thing I would say is that when we moved out we were asked to pay for the Window Blinds apart from the cleaning. These Blinds were damaged when we had moved in, our fault was that we didn't notice it when we had moved in so failed to inform them. But Otherwise it is good. read more

Avoid this place for next 1 year. The new management is doing a lot of construction work which will go on forever. This place is very noisy and unclean. Only advantage is that the crossroads mall is right at the front of the property. Needless to say,new management is greedy. read more

I moved with my family here in March 2012. Its a wonderful place to stay. The location is very good. The maintenance staff is good and very responsive. The rent is little bit higher than other communities, but it is justified in terms of appliances, living area and carpet. I wish they should finish the construction and open the Club house and swimming pool very soon. read more
