We had already walked all over Winchester, we were on our way to Stonehenge, we were excited and hungry, but also jet lagged and exhausted! Jill brought us to The White Lion joking that, being only 400 years old, it was practically a brand new pub! We came in (mind your head), and were immediately sat down at a big, groaning, family table! Water was served, beers and ciders followed, and then meat pies and fish and chips were ordered all around! This meal was absolutely delicious in the way that only homemade country pub food can be. The cider selection was excellent, and we left refreshed, happy, and ready to take on the rest of our day (mind you, we ALL passed out cold in the van after Stonehenge and on the way back to our hotel)! We both ordered the pie of the day (chicken & bacon) having checked it had a crust base not just a measly topping on a casserole. Staff are friendly and know the dishes. Our entire table filed there bellies with fish n' chips and fancied on pints o London Pride. The staff at the Bell Inn were awesome. They had gotten a call that our group was coming in and had everything ready right when we got there. The pre-ordered drinks, set, meals came out minutes after taking a seat. This kind of service was perfect, especially being that we were on the road for the day, on a tight schedule.

The staff are all very friendly and make you feel at home the moment you as you walk throw the door. A mile and a half out of Andover but makes you feel like you are deep into the countryside. The village itself is something to write about with is scattering of thatched detached homes, scarecrows decorated in fab garb dotted along the roadside. Inside expect to be greeted with warmth not only from the staff but also from its decor. It is the kind of pub where you feel at home spending hours sipping, supping and chattering the day away. What will surprise you is their food is not a typical pub menu. It's much more restaurant quality with a variety of dishes pleasing for all including wee ones. What a great local pub!…read more I visited it last night, after some time. A new manager arrived a couple of months ago & what a turn around! It's very clean, the staff are friendly and efficient, the beer and the food is good and the prices are about what you would expect nowadays. There is a very large child friendly garden and good sized car park. They have pool teams and are starting a poker night. They also have special Curry Nights. Well worth a visit!!!
