When you're thinking about holiday gifting items, there's a great variety of decor, trinkets, and jewelry to consider. It can be a bit visually overwhelming to look at everything, but it's well organized by content so it's very doable. The staff I interacted with were very kind and pleasant given it was a busy weekend. Prices aren't terrible, but everything is expensive these days. Will definitely be interested to see what Inkling has in store throughout the year! I'll be back to see :)

I was on my way to Alchemy Arts and was crossing the busy intersection at Broadway when I saw a…read moreblack cat very close to the road, so I pulled over to try and move her to a safer spot. I noticed the cat did not have a collar on and decided to quickly take her to the nearest vet to get scanned for a chip. Luckily, the cat did have a chip and the owner was notified. The vet told me the owner did not seem concerned and said the cat was an outdoor cat, but that they would come pick her up from the office. I was told I had to stay with the cat until the owner arrived. I waited at the vet's office for over an hour with the cat, and the owner arrived just minutes before the office closed. I explained to the owner that the cat was in the intersection and at risk of being hit, so I thought it was the right thing to do to get her scanned for a chip and try to contact the owner. The owner immediately became defensive and said, "Well she's an outdoor cat. She goes by the trees." I again explained that she was not by the trees, but instead right next to the intersection and at risk of being hurt or killed. The owner rolled her eyes at me and left with her cat. I later realized that the owner of this cat is one of the owners of Alchemy Arts, her name is Dayna. It's incredibly irresponsible to let your cat roam freely outside next to such a busy intersection. After further digging, it also appears that Marie the cat was attacked by a dog while roaming outside in 2025 and has gone missing for days before -- further evidence that this cat should not be outdoors for her own safety.

Sometimes I go there with a purpose, like, I need a St Francis and a St Anthony candle, or maybe I need some Morocco oil. Other times I am a complete disaster and I go in and they ask If I need any help, to which I say yes, and tell them my issue. The staff always knows exactly what I need and is more than willing to help. Oftentimes they will offer you a blessing at checkout - Say yes and accept with gratitude. The blessing will bring you goodness and peace and probably whatever else you need. At the beginning of the Athenian Candles gives out catalogues and Christian calendars with purchase. Both are wonderful gifts. The catalogue has a lot of information about products you may not have been aware of. Parking right in front can be tough; it is Greektown. if you go a block or two away you will find likely a free spot.

It's a small quaint storefront…read more Walking in there were sex toys and I was like why is this on the stationery store list since it barely has stationery but I'm like okay I respect the openness and women's sexual health. We need more stores like that! There wasn't a ton of inventory I'd want to buy. I tried finding a print that stuck out to me but they had limited stock. There was jewelry that was super cute, but I don't have my ears pierced and couldn't justify the price for the rest of the jewelry. The one thing that stuck out to me negatively was that there was a man talking to the employee working the checkout desk. Then when he left the employee turns to someone else there and starts talking about how he smelled bad. I am standing in front of the employee waiting to get my stationery store passbook stamped so I hear this whole conversation and I'm like that's so mean! Talk about terrible Customer Service!!! It really turned off me from shopping here and I couldn't bring myself to buy something and support them. It's a quaint shop but I just can't buy from here if I know the employees might turn around and talk shit about me when I leave.

Yay for Apple Fest, I was able to stop on by! They had a small booth at Apple Fest but I'm glad that we were still there when the store opened because as you may imagine, there was quite a bit more in store. They feature local artisans and lots of Chicago merchandise, from clothing to artwork. I bought baby's first hoodie here because it's super cute with the Chicago flag and everything! The staff were really friendly as well and happily they take digital wallets. Next time I have guests, this is the shop I'm going to suggest to them whether or not they think they want souvenirs, because they have a lot of great stuff here. I will definitely return as well because they have some lovely items that can work for home or as gifts. I especially would like to find a onesie or t-shirt for my daughter that has the Ork Posters (who own Neighborly) neighborhoods image on it.
