If I had to be picky, we felt the brocolli was a little overcooked and it would have been nice to see on the menu or be offered a side dish of vegetables for all main courses. I had the trout was only offered chips or new potatoes. Or thinking about it again now, perhaps the big dish of brocolli and carrots that arrived with the steak pies was meant for all of us. The waitress didn't say. There was enough for everyone, so we just tucked in. I would like to suggest that diners are offered a dish of veggies of the day for the whole table, or ask the diners to pick 2 veg from a small selection? Would love to go back again and have the chicken with garlic and white wine sauce. That tasted amazing too!

On entering we found a local guy singing Elvis songs to the jukebox with a broom in his hands as a mike stand! We thought the usual - Here's a drunk!, but, no. He asked us very nicely if we had any requests and proceeded to play, and sing, them. After a few drinks it was our turn to request, and sing! By the end of the night, a singing group, booked to play in the nearby hotel had found they had no audience and come into the Ardview to join in! The selection of drinks was excellent considering the problems of getting stocks (apart from malt whiskies, of course!) and we were accepted as part of the family within a very short time. The next day, locals were stopping to talk in the street and say how much they'd enjoyed the night - yet it was down to them! Magical!

We went back in at the end of our 10 day visit to Scotland and not only did he remember us, he remembered what we drank. Now THAT is a good pub. That night I tried the Malt of the month it was great value at £3.10 of a large (235ml) of superb malt. Although, it was very tasty even though the presentation was not all that great. It was served with mash potatoes instead of chips. It was good. They have a big variety of local taps. I went with the Jock Pumpkinhead Stout from Loch Lomond Brewery while my husband had the Man O'Hoy from Orkney Brewery. We were very happy with our local brew selections. It was a very nice atmosphere for lunch. If you're a Harry Potter fan, then you may want to take that hike from here to the filming location of Hagrid's Hut. The pathway up to the hut is just a short walk from the inn. The inn itself is kind of unique with the ice ax and ski décor. It reminded me a little of Ketchikan for some reason. Maybe it was the 5 Points of Contact photo that I saw by Peter Daynes. There's also a display of ice axes designed by Hamish MacInnes. Our tour guide in Ketchikan was coincidentally named Hamish.
