Christabel was incredibly accommodating and professional during the booking process. We wanted to the event to have a Hawaiian theme, but on a nonprofit budget, we couldn't afford a Pig Roast. Christabel created a menu that fit our budget and our theme. It was full of delicious creative takes on summer BBQ favourites, like a Yam and Potato Salad and Naturally Raised Porchetta Carvey served with Orange Cilantro Mojo. She also was ready with great alternatives for people with dietary restrictions. The onsite staff were friendly, punctual, and super accommodating. We were running a bit late in the program and they were flexible and kept the food piping hot. Thank-you Little Piggy for helping to make our event so memorable. This cute cafe is clean and modern with humble comfort touches. The front space has about 16 seats. The building itself is pretty long. I over heard that they're planning on running classes for making croissants and other baked goodies in the future . Brilliant idea! As they're still working to the grand opening kinks, the croissants are flaky and the coffee with the right about of caffeine to keep my going on my adventure. Unfortunately by the time I got here most of the croissants were sold out. They're also serving breakfast breads, croissant sandwiches, lemon tarts and sweet goods. So I stared at Google Maps and saw this place show up in a few different locations, even on the mainland. I love tacos/burritos, but don't have high expectations when it comes to this part of the U.S., especially when it comes to chains. However, since this Tacofino happened to be near where we were staying, we gave it a shot. Impressed! We were immediately greeted and given time to decide what we wanted without feeling any pressure. The place is bright, but a bit tight with seating. Most people seem to get their stuff to go anyway. We actually ate in our first time. My husband and I ordered three tacos, which came out fresh on a big platter, and they were huge! However, we were not provided with individual plates, so they handed us napkins to separate them out. I think they could improve on a solution for that. The fish taco was my favorite. It was flavorful, the breading was crispy, the meat was substantial. I could probably order this every time, once I've gone through enough of the menu. My husband loved the tuna taco. It was like seared poke, in taco form. The pork taco had great flavor, too, but it didn't wow us as much as the first two. Oh, by the way, the habanero sauce is good but is super spicy... even for people who can handle some spice. Also, I brain farted and asked for the "Valentina" salsa... thinking it was something house made. Nope, it was just packets of the same hot sauce you can buy at the store, so keep that in mind! We came another time and had other tacos, this time to go. I wasn't happy with how they PACKED two giant tacos into a tiny container, so it was really hard to tell them apart and split them up. Anyway, they were pretty good but didn't compare to the first two. From best to worst: Pork belly (it was a special), crispy chicken, pork gringa. So, the tacos were great. I don't know if I'd call them authentic but I don't care- the taste, and the portion, is what stands out. If I'm ever back on the island, I want to try their other proteins, and definitely a burrito.

The shell is made of melted cheese, the vegetables are fresh and crisp. So often keto options feel like a lesser choice, but not here. I had two pulled pork tacos and while I got a slice of the keto chocolate Cale for dessert, I didn't have space for it. This was fine, as it made for a lovely bit of sweet this evening. I hope that they expand their hours (M-F 10-2 & SS 10-4), and I would love to have this for an option during the week. That said I am thrilled to have a restaurant in Victoria making specific keto dishes, rather than my having to ask for a bunch of things to be left off. It's nestled into the trees outside of the University's ring road and sat a little bit lower on the hill, so it truly makes it feel like a destination in and of itself. When you look out the windows at the fountain in the middle of the pond, or out at the trees surrounding the building on all sides, it adds a certain degree of mysticism and fantasy to the location. The appetizers that this location provides for functions are absolutely splendid. I believe the caterers are university employees as the quality has kept up every time that I've been. Last time around, the food that stood out the most to me was the prosciutto wrapped asparagus spears, which I had on a fun plate full of other delicious, relatively upscale tasters. This visit, I also had the time to go and get an $8 flight with some wonderful beers in it. I had the Hoyne Dark Matter, a Blue Buck, Category 12 Critical Point, and a Fat Tug IPA. I hadn't tried the Critical Point before this and I thought it was incredible. Altogether, I thought that my combination for the flight was a great balance of lights and darks, from hoppy beers to heavy beers. Later that night, after food, I also enjoyed a glass of Peller Estates' Merlot, which I always enjoy. The inside of the Club has a lovely wood cabin feel, which fits the aesthetic of the environment perfectly. They still manage to dress this venue up, however, by using a mix of crisp tablecloths and exposed wood, complete with a gorgeous zen garden in the middle of the building, with windows looking out towards it. For this reason, the Club is shaped like a ring, with windows looking inside towards the garden, as well as outside towards the trees. Lovely building design, complete with a breathtaking environment and great decoration. I'm looking forward to getting some awesome photos of the University Club next time I'm there on a beautiful blue day so that I can back up my initial description because, after all, a photo IS worth 1000 words. ;)
