Jack is the bomb dot com. I won't let anyone else cut my otherwise unruly hair. I don't know who wrote these recent reviews but I can't imagine that we were in the same spot. I watched the young stylist while in recently do some great men's cuts as well as Jack negotiated some seriously challenging hair issues with grace and ease. (Not just mine) He's a hairdressing superhero imo. If you listen to these recent reviews you are missing out. Get your haircut and color here. read more

If you're a guy or you have super short hair and you just want a haircut it might be fine. If you're looking for a colour or highlights (or if you have standards when it comes to quality) look elsewhere. read more

I don't Yelp a lot but when I do I usually reserve it for places where I've had a great experience. I'm just not a negative Yelper..... so in the case of The Loft, I'm a fan. A big fan. When you're in a resort town you just don't expect to find that city quality of hair cut. I'm a guy so I'm just going by what I experienced here and I suppose it could be quite different for a female. But I doubt that because my girlfriend (if she Yelp'd) would probably give this place a 5 star as well. She had a bunch more "female stuff" done that day ... me, just a haircut. So I had Jack (the owner) cut my hair. I'm usually the type to sit down and just say, "Take off 3 weeks worth" .. in this case he makes a suggestion that I go with something a little different. Hey, why not.... and 30 minutes later I'm looking at quite the different lid on my head. And a fine one at that (first time ever I've had a haircut that got more than a couple comments). So my experience was great, others might not have had the same.. but what I can say is that Jack and the team there are great! The atmosphere is fun and energized (it was the day we went) and from what I see on the walls, they're a pretty critically acclaimed outfit. Pros in other words. My/our five star is a solid five star I live in Vancouver but I'm starting to think that I should be planning more than just ski weekends in Whistler. read more

I do not normally write reviews. Nor do I normally go in to the service provider and complain. However, after paying $250, I don't know how else to find a solution. The lady who did my hair, from Australia was lovely. Although the service felt rushed and like she had to finish in a hurry to see the next client. I will admit, it was a long process and I knew that going there. I was going from a light brown / dark blonde to a medium blonde. I was advised a full head of foils would be the way to go with a colour in between. After 3 hours and really having enough, my hair was finished. I expressed that it was darker than I had hoped but was persuaded that you know it will take a few times. I had spoken to other hair salons who said that they could get me to where I wanted first time for the same price. I went back in a few times after but they were closed over easter weekend every time i went back. Finally, I went back and they were open. It was very intimidating as I am not one to go back normally but i really hate how they have done my hair and its not wanted i asked for, a nice medium blonde. It is a horrible washed out in between colour, not much better than what I started with to be honest! After talking to the same girl who did my hair she basically expressed I would need to pay for her to fix it or use "dishwashing soap or head and shoulders" to lighten it! hello, had i not just paid $250!!!!! I will not ever be going back and quit frankly now would NOT recommend for anyone to go there! Usually if you go back to a hairdresser after spending soooo much money, you get it fixed, but not here! Im not usually the type to write reviews, but I am extremely disappointed with the service I received at the loft whistler. I came in knowing exactly what I wanted. I had many photos of very ash blonde/platinum hair with minimum to no brassy or golden tones (warmth). I had already visited every studio in whistler and got a consultation. The stylist at the loft told me she knew exactly what I wanted and I felt really good and confident that she understood my vision so I decided to book in with her. My hair already is mostly ash ice blonde at the bottom, I wanted my regrowth to match. I've been platinum blonde before and know sometimes it can be a process. I asked before we even began if it will take a few times to process to what I want, etc. She assured me she could achieve my vision in one go. I want to mention she was really sweet and I really liked her, but my hair was a total miss. It came out so warm, not at all what I wanted or what I showed her. It didn't match the bottom colour at all. I was so unhappy I still haven't worn my hair down (I only wear it up to hide it) I went back and she fixed a few parts but overall it still looks the same. I went back a third time to speak to the owner, Jack, to see what Could be done and I was so unimpressed with his "solution". He insisted that the colour was beautiful, and it wasn't a bad job. He fought me on it looking brassy - he tried to convince me it wasn't brassy.. hence he had no solution. Yes, it wasn't a hack job, but it was so far from my original vision and he just kept telling me my original isn't achievable. So then why did she tell me she could do it? I wouldn't have done anything to it if she told me it wasn't achievable. She didn't even tell me it would take two processes. She said she could do it in one go. But the owner seemed to think this was as good as it gets.. I felt hopeless as it seemed he was more focused on defending his stylist rather than listening to and supporting the client. I immediately went to another salon after meeting jack and asked their opinion on my hair. The other salon right away noticed how warm it was and assumed that the stylist at the loft used two colours on my hair as you could see a brassy blonde all throughout and suggested solutions for me. So I felt I had to write a review. The owner was no help and I left feeling unheard. I just invested $250 + into my hair and I would have rather my own natural regrowth than a brassy blonde tone. Very unimpressed and disappointed with the service. I get that colour is a process but the service I received from the owner was super discouraging. read more

Way more than I expected to pay!! I had the same experience as Mel.M My stylist was friendly but did not really listen to my styling requests. I was not bothered as I dont mind trying new things but the big surprise was when it came time to pay. i was quoted HALF the final amount and when I questioned the total I didnt really get an answer the receptionist answered the phone and then was too busy to talk to me. So I just payed and left, i will not be coming back its a shame because the space itself was nice and well planned out but the management or pricing or something is going very wrong. read more

During a recent trip to Whistler I needed to get my hair cut and coloured and decided to try The Loft Salon, and I'm so glad I did! All of the staff were friendly. Alice did a fantastic job walking me through some colour options and she listened well to my requests for my cut. Shauna gave me an excellent blowdry when Alice had to step away for another client (the blowdry left my hair shiny and full of body, with some curl at the ends). I left with a good cut and lovely colour and I was happy with the price too. Wish I could transplant this salon to Toronto so I could get their same great service in my home town! read more

Great salon. I have done last minute drop ins here 3 times....3 different stylists and have never been disappointed. Was a bit concerned as yesterday the young woman who cut my hair had only been in whistler 2 weeks......didn't know what her deal was. Got the best haircut I've had in 5 years. She took way way too much time for a 30 dollar men's haircut....well deserved 20 dollar tip. Crap-...forgot her name!!! She did an amazing job. read more

I signed up just to write this... I had asked to have the sides of my head cut to half its length. Surprised by the barbers response of "you sure you want it that short, i could give you a 2", i reiterated saying half the length and not a 1/2 clipper size buzz. He nodded his understanding and then promptly started buzzing my hair to the skin, i stopped him but the damage was already done, so i had to change what i wanted as my cut and said again to cut the top to half its length. It seemed like he was doing fine at the time, but was left with 3/4 - 5/6th the length off and looking like i have a puffy mohawk. I now look like garbage, and as someone that at one point as once proud of my hair is now left with having to deal with this garbage cut or buzz it all off myself and look like a skin head. Few times have i been more pissed, and to put the icing on the cake, despite repeated apologies they still had me pay the full $30. Absolute trash! read more

I phoned to enquire about prices and make a booking, I was quoted $45 and as I live and work in Whistler (which means I make little money!) and decided that was an affordable price for a decent cut. The lady that cut my hair was nice enough, although didn't adhere to all my styling requests (shape etc). I thought 'whatever' and went to pay my $45+tax +tip... The lady at the counter (who I assume was the owner or at least the manager) told me my hair cut came to $75! I informed her that I was quoted $45 and she said (quite rudely and abruptly) "they must have misunderstood you on the phone and thought you said wash", which surprised me since the hairdresser cutting my hair knew exactly what I was there for! I paid my $75 + tax + tip and left (obviously very upset! I'm not sure if this was an honest mistake or if it a scam they use to get more money out of people, but I was very upset about the whole situation and earning only $9 an hour, means I had to work 10 hours to pay off my half-decent haircut! A little ridiculous! I'd recommend getting a written quote before booking with Loft Hair Salon! Needless to say I will never be returning! If only everyone where like my regular hairdresser back home! read more

I believe this salon is populated with hair dressers who don't listen to what you ask for and have no education towards the art of styling and cutting hair. I have previously been to this salon many many times, and have had reasonably good experiences until today. I came to the salon with long brown gorgeous hair wishing to get 3 inches cut off my hair. As well as a tiny tiny bit of layering requested around my face. When I arrived at the salon I was greeted by a polite professional looking male hair dresser, but I was completely wrong about his knowledge of cutting hair. As I said previously I was looking for a trim and a tiny little bit of layering around my face. Before my hair was 4 inches below my shoulders, and after I left with and extremely un even cut at the back of my hair, as well as side bangs that did not even reach my chin! The layering was extremely poorly done and I had chunks missing from the bottom line of my hair. It looks like Helen Keller cut my hair. Now my hair is ruined due to the one specific hair dresser that did not follow my wishes which were both extremely simple ( 3 inch trim and a light light layering around my face). I even showed him how I would have liked it! I do not recall asking for side bangs, but hey now I have them! Due to my disastrous experience at the salon, I will never be coming back! You have ruined my hair for at least 3 months because I need to let my newly added side bangs grow out!! Thank you for making my hair nightmares come true. You really managed to accomplish the look of a 1980's look on my head. I'm glad I can start high school with my lopsided, uneven side bangs along with the rocky edge you left on the bottom of my hair. If you like your hair the way you have it find a different salon. My 3 year old sister could cut my hair better. read more
