Derryfield Country Club - This is the plate served. Note the size of the sauce cup, which is about the size of a 1/2 dollar coin for comparison.

NO it is not! I couldn't get a par to save my life!!! - Breathe...... remember to breathe..... - SO I got to play here the other day, and it's November so the guy at the pro shop said "$23, and you can play as many holes as you'd like". I liked that. I liked that a lot. I thought that was great - I'm glad places do this to get people out there playing. - I've never played here before but I had heard it was "hilly". And WOW is it ever! Probably the most-hilly (hilliest? hilled?) course I've ever played. It reminded me of Mt Hood in MA. - The course has an odd design; there is a very busy road that drives right through the course! Holes 7-11 are on one side of the road, while all the others, and the pro shop, are on the other. I don't like busy roads near my golf courses, I don't like the roar of traffic right by my tee. But, well, it's unavoidable! - Anyhow - first tee is downhill, the next couple holes were flat but VERY WET. And it hadn't rained in days. But it was quite like playing through a marsh in some areas. Other courses would have sectioned off areas I found on holes 2-3 as unplayable. But - whatever. 4th Hole is straight up a hill. Anyhow you get the idea; If you are walking, as I did, you will get a nice workout! I don't mind hilly courses on cold days. It helps keep you warm. Check out the hawks flying around! Crazy! - Aside from the drainage problems I found on those two holes, the rest of the course was in great shape. The first several holes are behind the clubhouse, almost in a valley, then you work your way back up and across the street. It's a challenging course, for sure. I thought it was in fine shape - good greens, fairway was in nice shape. - There's something here I've never seen before in all my years of golfing: At a couple of the very hilly holes - since you can't see who's up/down on the green (it's that steep, kids) they have these giant steel bells/gongs that you ring to let the people behind you know you're off the green or out of their reach. I've never come across that before! Very odd! But it works. I just wish they had told us that before we started out - I had no idea what they were. - I have heard the bar and restaurant here are really popular - and I do hope to make it back here again soon to check it out. It's November now - so I might make it out once again if I'm lucky. I just may make my last round of 2010 here!

The food was decent - kind of like wedding food that was prepared way in advance. We got the leftovers boxed up to go and it took a really long time - over a half hour. The waitress brought them to a back room to package up. Someone else brought them back to us. Within 24 hours 4 of my family members got very bad food poisoning. I was violently ill for almost 24 hours - could barely move for 2 days. My 83 year old dad was violently ill for days! My sister called to speak to the manager and told them what happened and they never called back! 3 of us ate the leftovers. I would NEVER recommend this place!

It's a bit of a stretch to call this place a Country Club…read more Me and Ben were visiting from Fort Mill, SC and played this on 7/24/23 on recommendation of James who lives in Manchester, NH. Me, Ben & James had an 8a tee time @ Breakfast Hill in Greenland, NH so we were warmed up already. James has played here many times and says he likes it for his short game practice because of the short Par 3 and the reachable Par 4's.. The Par 4's might be reachable for low handicappers but #16 is 370 yards, #17 is 345 yards, #13 & #14 are both 310 yards. There are no Senior tees. You have the option of playing the Red's as the most forward tee's but I chose not to. The carts are old and run down. The course opened in 1969 which was 54 years ago. There have not been too many improvements that I could tell since then. There was a family with 2 young teenagers on the #1 tee when we started so we decided to play the back 9 first. The tee boxes are really in sad shape. The had a very low budget for tee markers and it showed. My biggest issue with his course was all the low hanging tree branches on the borders of the fairway. In the cases where there are dog legs. you had to shape your short or lay up for a better angle into the hole. Had you played the course previous, you would know that but James didn't play with us so we took our strokes and moved on. The other issues I had was all the wet areas around the greens. It had not rained in a week according to James but there was standing water around most all of the holes. The fairways had not been cut nor had the second cut of the fringe around the greens. been cut. It's not a long course and would probably be a lot more playable and enjoyable if they would just read this review along with many other similar reviews and make some changes.

On the last visit [in late August 2026] to golf there - it was just myself & my brother. Before us there was a foursome ready to go out on the front 9. We checked the back 9 & no one was on the course - also, no one was even near the back 9. We asked "Brad" if we could do the back 9 so we wouldn't have to wait for the foursome since there was only 2 of us. We asked politely & he said no - he could not do that. There was no reason to deny our request. Actually, many times through the years - we had done the back 9 if the front was busy. We never had an issue. Therefore, we asked for a refund so we could leave. "Brad" said no - no refunds. My brother was upset & left without getting his money back. I stayed & played on my own since I had paid for golf and a cart. We will never go to this course again.

The fairways and especially the greens were in great shape. Some tee boxes are in need of some work. There is a lot of water on the course, check out hole 8, and plenty of sand traps. The traps were inconsistent. Some had plenty of sand to make a play out of, while many were filled with pebbles, stones, and had a hard base making it difficult to get the club through the ball. On a Sunday mid-morning where you might expect a slow round on a public course, we finished in around 4.5 hours, and it didn't seem that long. The ranger was out and about making sure groups were moving along. There was a beverage cart on the course for "hydration". The staff was friendly. The starter gave us a few hints as to what to expect with this being our first time. It was a fun round and I would surely return.

If you're planning a trip here don't! Staff are very rude…read moreeven with simple questions. Most decent courses in the area put a hold on your card to reserve your tee time so that everyone in your group can pay when arriving. Not here, you have to pay in advance. Make sure you're aware you've paid and no matter what happens there will be no refund at all even if you don't play. No customer service skills at all. Rangers stalk you and pace is extremely slow. Over 5 hours for a round with a cart. Oh don't expect that cart will run the entire round either so keep that in mind. They are entirely electric and start to fail after even 9 so get ready to have to walk because rangers are nowhere to be found when your cart dies and no way to get through calling the clubhouse to even request a replacement. Complain and they will blame you. They must have had a lot of complaints because they are ready with excuses why it's your fault. I don't know why this is even a public course. Clearly they don't like any non-regular to play there. The course itself has an ill conceived design. Not sure who designed it but clearly a first try. It's green I'll give it that. Could smell sewage around the 9th green. That is pleasant. Go somewhere else. There are far better courses in the area with very friendly and helpful staff. This place seems to hate the world. Some other reviews I have seen also mention not allowing young children and or non-playing companions to ride along so don't bring anyone. I don't think they would let you decide not to play and get your money back. Please whatever you do don't bring anyone here if you're introducing them to the game. It could very well turn them off golf forever.
