It has a lot of steps to walk about and all. The view from the top is phenomenal. You can see all of port Isabel.

This is a state historic site with a stunning view. I learned that this lighthouse guided ships into the harbor and the Rio Grande. It was even used as a lookout during the American Civil War by Confederate and Union forces. You can go inside the lighthouse but you need to pay per person. They have restrooms that are mostly clean and a visitor center. read more

Definitely 5 stars. One of my earliest childhood memories was going up the step winding stairs to the top of this light house and looking out over the vast south Texas coastal plains. This is a must stop even today. Young and old alike will be rewarded with exercise and and great view at the top. Go! read more

I love the story of this lighthouse! I was fortunate to be able to climb upstairs to see an over view of SPI downtown & the waters along with the condo's & hotels. So beautiful! The climb up is steep. Use caution. It would be nice to experience it at night I bet! read more

It's a small lighthouse, but still interesting. The price is right for getting in it was 750 for two of us to get in with the military discount. There's a lot of stairs that are small for people with small feet to navigate to go up to the top 75 stairs if I remember correctly, and you can see down to the bottom through the stairs, not my cup of tea, but I still put on my big girl panties and climb the stairs read more

Great historical marker to still be able to enjoy and the fact that it lights up once again after 150 years is just awesome.

Wherever I travel, I always like to find historical unique finds that are off the beaten path. On my way to South Padre Island last summer, this adorable and charming lighthouse called to me in Port Isabel. It is a little port city on the way to SPI. It cost just a few dollars to climb into its interior and walk up those very narrow steps to reach the top. Wear solid sneakers or sandals, flip flops will not help you and could possibly make you slip and fall, those stairs are narrow and steep. But all the sweat to reach the very top to take in the South Texas views is worth it. And how many of these bygone relics can one climb into anyways? Make the 20 minutes and be fascinated by the small good things in life. read more

Hot, no ventilation at the top. $4. 75 steps. Ticket taker wasn't too friendly, but would you if you sat in no AC all day at the bottom of a lighthouse? No windows at the top. View is limited and hard to enjoy on a hot day. All my pictures are trash bc of glare from glass. Overall glad we did this, but it took 15 minutes tops. read more

There were 75 steps and each one is worth the view at the top. It's gorgeous and gives an Amazon view o Port Isabel and the bridge leading to South Padre Island. When we got to the top, it was extremely hot and humid because of all o the glass. The staff was nice and the pictures we got are amazing. Just be sure not to wear anything too hot, you might pass out on a Texan summer day. read more

Walked in and was greeted immediately. The associate was able to quickly find me the appliance bulb that I needed and couldn't find at Wal-Mart or Ace. The bulb was .97 cents... no jacked up prices here. read more

This place was a forsure place that we had to go to for our trip and it was definitely worth it after you get through the steps, no Ac, and sometimes crowdedness the view was amazing. You get to see the bridge and the blue water and South Padre Island strip including some of Port Isabel and its shops. read more

My favorite landmark in the valley. Family worked on the renovation way back when and now it holds a special place in our hearts besides just being a neat place to go. I advise doing the combo entry so you can visit the museums as well! read more

Real neat attraction! Inexpensive to go into. You don't need much time to go up in. Great view up top. Small children may find the climb difficult. read more
