I became stranded in the lower laugna Madre at about noon, tried some troubleshooting for an hour and at 1pm called TowboatUS. You go through a dispatch center which takes about 10 minutes and eventually she comes back with the good news that the local contractor will call immediately and gave us and ETA of 2 hours for the tow. Two and one half hours later.......we call back as no one has called or arrived. It takes them about 3 minutes to find the open ticket, again she calls the local contractor and he will text us his number so we can call him direct, but it should be about 45 minutes for the tow. Forty five minutes later, still not text....another call to dispatch. This time the local dispatcher does call and gives a long story of how busy they are and an ETA of yet another hour. Now it is five o'clock and four hours into a 2 hour ETA. We wait and hour call the local guy and they still have a quick "grounding" call ahead of us and then will head our way. Four times we have been given a bad faith ETA, cell phone battery low, nightfall coming; we decide to call a friend, sick with the flu, and he says he'll come and get us. He arrives an hour and twenty minutes later.... still no TowboatUS. I'll keep the insurance as a last resort, but in the Lower Laguna Madre, they are not dependable.

I was walking across the bridge when I saw this center and I thought that the architecture was quite enticing. I walked up to the beautiful staircase in the building to discover the box office. This was about 7:30pm and the box office had just closed, but there was still someone inside. They gave me two free tickets to a Mariachi Concert. How good could it be? After all this was just some high school / college performance. But I was in for a treat. The level of artistry and the pieces played by the 3 mariachi bands that I listened to were superb. I was never a mariachi fan before. I am now. The auditorium itself is acoustically wonderful. Perfect for listening to music. There is ample seating, but even the second tier doesn't feel like it is far from the stage. Outside of the doors in the halls around the auditorium I discovered a superbly decorated and well kept center. The chandeliers and the main staircase were impressive. Even if you visit Brownsville just for the day (as I did) then make sure not to miss out on this building. Attending a concert here is ideal, but if there is no show on your day then walking into the building and checking out the architecture are worthwhile activities by themselves.

As soon as we get there, we are greeted with great smiles and a willingness to serve. We had a cheese board to start and ordered a bottle of their "house red wine" which wasn't as strong as I usually like them but the taste was great. Cheese board was great but absolutely not enough meat on the plate guys - Not sure if others have complained about that. The margherita pizza we had smelled amazing as they brought it over and tasted exactly the same but after the 2nd piece, it just lost its fizzle. I love the fact that they sell cigars in-house because I totally forgot to bring any of mine since I had been under the weather to start our visit. One gripe I have to mention is that they absolutely need to hire better musicians. The guy that was playing that night totally murdered every song he was trying to play!
