Their billing is set up where an email comes for quarterly subscription. No problem as that is now modern day common practice. The problem begins when the on-line bill pay set up which is third world country set up does not work and does not allow you to pay on-line. So if their is an issue with billing a number is given and when you call that number it says..."you have reached a non-working number, try again later." So I happened to be in Winter Haven visiting my elderly parents from Tennessee, and thought that I would just go up to their advertised office location in Winter Haven and pay their next quarterly bill. Surprise, surprise...this location is not open to the public! Another sign reads, Please call the number listed below. Again, "you have reached a non-working number!" If this is what anyone would consider a good business model no reason to explain that they are taking the final breaths of a dying business. I think I will just let their subscription run its course. It appears they do not want to have any continued renewals.

I want to support my local paper. Even though I did not read it everyday I had a daily…read moresubscription to the Winter Haven News Chief. However, I cannot continue due to the worst customer support ever. My monthly rate rent up from 15 dollars to 22 dollars a month. That is ok, cost of everything going up. But on Feb 7th I started to receive double charges, last and middle of each month. I could not get a straight answer from Bridgette in their customer support section. Had to plea for a response, then the response would be totally bogus. But, when I said enough is enough and asked Bridgette to cancel my subscription, she did that instantly. If the news print goes out of business in the Winter Haven area it will not be because of the talent. It will be due to the Customer Support. Great Job Bridgette.

For decades, the paper has captured a lot of African American historical information and images. I grew up with this paper and even appeared in the paper a few times.

According to the paper's website it is the only African American publication in Florida that prints twice weekly and owns all its own printing equipment. The paper originally operated in Jacksonville, Florida In 1919 before closing during the Great Depression. It was reopened as a weekly by the son of the owner of that paper, C. Blythe Andrews, in Tampa in December, 1945 at 1511 Central Avenue. The Tampa Bulletin was purchased in 1959 and became twice weekly. In 1962 the paper moved to its current location of 2207 East 21st Avenue. It seems to be distributed mostly around the Sulphur Springs area of Tampa and I have not seen it much elsewhere. I would describe it as old school. Here's the paper's website: http://flsentinel.com/

Very thorough. I use to look at the Orlando Sentinel, but they scaled back the information that I always look for when trying to find things in the community. Orlando Weekly is really out to educate people on all of the insider highlights that Orlando has to offer, and for that, I solute this publication ;)

It mostly focuses on entertainment, so if you need to know who's playing where and what the drink specials are, this is your up to date source. Of course, on the back pages you'll find lots of ads for "outcall masseuses" and phone sex lines, but it still has some interesting content. Steve Schneider is sometimes brilliant, Billy Manes is everyones favorite gay scenester, and Happytown and Council Watch can be a fascinating read. Be sure to take the restaurant reviews with a grain of salt, though; although well written, they tend to praise their advertisers. How can you complain, its published every Thursday and its FREE!
