Before the tour I had spoken to them and told them that my son was in speech therapy. They were aware and said this wouldn't be a problem. When we came in to go through the paperwork the director told me that my son would not do well at their school and that he would need one on one care that they couldn't give, therefore he would "slip through the cracks". After observing him for 5-10 minutes she stated that she believes he is autistic and his mannerisms were all things that a child with autism demonstrates. She went on to give me pamphlets of places for him to get tested and schools for children with autism diagnosis. I let her know that the pediatrician had never once had a concern for autism and that he just had the speech delay. I left crying and embarrassed by the way we were treated. My son now goes to a new school and is thriving. He talks all the time and again has not been diagnosed with autism. I would never recommend this school to anyone. I believe they only want certain children and families who will boost the image of the school.

I waited for a bit before posting a review and make sure I'm not overreacting. I have a lot more to…read moresay, but I'm sure no one wants a novel. At first, Goddard was great. But as soon as my son hit pre-k, we ran into a lot of problems and I'm noticing a trend within these negative reviews that I really wish we saw a while ago and made a switch sooner. If your child is laid back, listens well, and you are wanting something more academically inclined, sure, this is for you. I gave 2 stars because they are good with academics and there is an employee that genuinely seems to care about the kids. I'll give them that. But if your child is your typical active kid (gasp! Unheard of!) - go elsewhere. They seem confused on normal, active 4 year old behaviors. Save yourself MULTIPLE sleepless nights, tears, and paranoia that something is wrong with you and your child. If there's a "incident," brace yourself. You will get calls, meetings. At the end, you may get 4 stories and a piece of paper (no joke - that happened). So, you don't really know the truth of what REALLY happened. You will get a call from the co-owner (I'm sure you see her name pop up in these reviews) and get pulled into unplanned meetings when you're there to just pick up your kid after a long day of work. A long meeting before a phone meeting later, if you will. Just to hear how your kid is overwhelming or unusual and list of "symptoms" to have you name what it could be. (By the way, my son is normal and fine according to the ACTUAL experts. Talk to the professionals before taking action based on what the co-owner says.) In short, you will be chased out. That is her tactic. Your child will sense it and act up even more. Mine surely did. After we pulled him and moved him elsewhere - it was like an instant relief. He's doing so much better at the other daycare facility. We actually ran into another former Goddard student and parent - SAME STORY. Read these reviews on a PC - you will see more of them with similar trend. I also want to add that the co-owner has drop another child's name to me. My son would get riled up with another student. I knew this and I didn't think it was much a problem, but she outwardly said, "we will be talking to the Parents about [child's name] bad behavior." I thought that was unprofessional and inappropriate to discuss other children BY NAME to another parent. Makes me wonder what was said about my son and other children.

With all of the stories we see on the Internet, our guards instantly go up to protect our little ones. From the moment we attended the open house, we knew this was the right place for our son. The teachers took time to engage with us while giving a tour of the facility. With the pandemic, we were still hesitant on a start date. After sharing my concerns, the Director assured us of the safety protocols in place and let me know when I was ready, they would be ready! Fast forward to now. Our son has been attending since October 2020 and his development has been a pleasure to watch. There's a few interactions that have stood out for me. First, there was a day when my son was fussy and didn't want to enter the classroom. After some coaxing, he proceeded over the threshold with his teacher. I was entering my car and noticed he was still crying. Within seconds, his teacher picked him up and gave him cuddles to soothe him and stop crying. At a previous center, they would let me cry it out. This warmed my heart. The second good observation was just a week ago. I was approached by his teacher encouraging me to move him to full-time care because she noticed signs of regression. We, yes WE, discussed next steps and how we could make this an easy transition for him. Part of the challenge is he's not fully potty trained, but they work with him daily to get him there. If you're looking for a place to send your little one, look no further. Your child will be cared for and prepared for kindergarten. You will be treated like family here. Oh...and one other thing...the weekly newsletters are adorbs! You get to see the littles playing together and read about what they're working on for the week. It's a great way to provide reinforcement at home. Something else...I love the app! You get notifications with your child's activity and pics. Look no further! TLE-Elgin is the place!

As a new mom, there were much guilt that accompanies the role. The biggest of all and a myth IMHO…read moreis that a child thrives best with the mother for its first five years. So it was with a lot of trepidation and questions when I toured childcare facilities around me. With so many by me, and upon the recommendation of neighbors who had lived in the area for a while, The Learning Tree has consistently been the lauded choice. The building was very unassuming, a low-lying ranch nestled between an auto parts place and a furniture store, off a busy street. Inside, while it lacked the fanciness and spaciousness of some facilities, it was clean. It smelled clean (and not in a chemical way), felt clean, looked clean, and continues to be so to this very day. I want my house to be this neat and clean! How do they do it??? I enrolled my child when he was 9 months old, and every day, I continue to marvel at the progress he has made under their care. I honestly can attest that I will not be able to prep him for all the development that he has undergone if he had stayed home with me, or a private caretaker, or an au pair. The teachers and staff are warm, loving, firm, and highly knowledgeable. I have sought them out for advice on numerous occasions. from discipline to teaching/learning. They even helped potty-trained him before he turned 2! Every teacher knows all the children by name, even those whose classes he had not even attended. As I write this during the COVID shelter in place, I am tearing up at the thought that he would not be back with them as this is his last year there. He should be spending fun summers with them, growing even more robustly. I can only take comfort that when this COVID is over, we are still near enough to drop by to visit. Field trips and holiday activities are included in the experience. My son has met Mrs. Claus, the Easter Bunny, fire fighters, librarians. He's been apple picking, visited maple farms, fire stations, libraries, parks. He's had "cooking" lessons. What was enviable among my other parent friends in other suburbs is that my son got an additional enrichment by learning Spanish, which was an option when he turned 4. Plus, at the end of every school year, we received a folder of his progress. That was also unheard of with my friends' children at their daycare. I cannot recommend The Learning Tree enough. I could go on, but I highly suggest you give them a consideration.

If I wanted any information from the director or the teachers I needed to ask for it, and I often got different responses depending on who I asked. It felt like the teachers relied on the "Tadpoles" app as a crutch so that they did not have to talk to us. Moreover, I was upset at the number of injuries and incidents my son experienced here compared to his placement at another center. His very first day after attending, he came home with horrible diaper rash with open sores. The teachers tried to make excuses for this by saying it may have been because they were serving him fruit. This is ridiculous to me because we had been serving him fruit at home for almost a year at that point. He was constantly sick and had so many bruises, scrapes and bite marks from "incidents" that I was afraid his pediatrician would think he was being abused. It culminated in an incident where he had a febrile seizure in the classroom and the teachers claimed that they had no idea what caused the seizure or if it could have been prevented. They sent him to the ER where his temperature was found to be 102.7. They claimed someone had been holding him when it happened, so how could they not have known that he had a fever? We had also previously told them that he has a history of febrile seizures. As childcare professionals they should have known the signs of a fever and been able to contact us or administer Tylenol to him before the seizure happened. All in all I did not feel safe sending my son here, and I think the teachers and director did not do a good job either communicating or making sure my child was appropriately cared for. I am writing this not to hurt their business but to make sure other parents are able to make an informed choice when it comes to who they trust with their child's care.

Oh Primrose- where to even begin? I will start with my biggest regret- not having my children…read moreenrolled here sooner. This is a school. This is not a glorified daycare. This is absolutely an environment that fosters learning, growth, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Our oldest child went through the private Kindergarten at Primrose and the impact this singular decision will have on his future far exceeds anything we could have hoped for. He got more than a foundation at Primrose- he got a solid education and a skillset that will have a lifelong influence. Upon graduating from the Primrose private kindergarten program, he went on to public school where he is in their kindergarten (we didn't want to push him ahead to 1st grade as we wanted the transition to elementary school to be easier on him). We have learned that he is not at a kindergarten reading level- he is at a SECOND GRADE reading level! Not only that, but we have been informed that of the 10 children that graduated from Primrose last year (either from the pre-K or Kindergarten program) and then went on to attend our same public elementary school, ALL TEN children are above grade level for reading. They are advanced enough that they are having to be pulled from their regular classroom reading time to work with a teacher that can teach them phonics/reading at the level these children are already at. There are only 2 non-Primrose children in their elementary school that are also being pulled for advanced phonics/reading skills. Furthermore, we have been informed that our son is also advanced in his math skills, and he will be pulled from his regular kindergarten math coursework to focus on more challenging math curriculum that more closely meet him where his skills lie. Now I would LOVE to take credit for his achievements. I would love to tell you that mom and dad taught him all that he knows. But that would be dishonest of me. We owe all of this development to Primrose- to the curriculum that they employ, to the safe and nurturing environment that they provide, and especially to the teachers and staff that work day and night to give these children a head start in life. I cannot say enough positive things about our experience at Primrose- they go above and beyond for their students and the community in everyway possible. THANK YOU PRIMROSE!
