I was really worried about him integrating into a preschool as he's always on the move, I was amazed to see him sit at the table to eat or stay seated at story time. But my son isn't perfect, he gets restless and sometimes wants to get out of a group activity, so his teachers redirect him to complete an activity on his own such as reading a book, taking a break to lie down on a pillow, or giving him sensory toy to play with, etc. It's just so awesome that my son is getting great care with the development he needs. Meanwhile, they use Procare communication app which allows you to connect with the school directors and teachers. Teachers send pics, updates of how my son is doing throughout the day. They have plenty of activities so it's so cute to see pics of him doing art, making crafts, or having in-school field trips, workshops, etc. Finally, I love that my son is well fed. They have catered breakfast and lunches brought in every day from a local restaurant called "Boucherie". This is at any additional cost at $5.25 a day, but well worth it as he is getting a variety of foods and we don't have to stress out about preparing meals and snacks. I love that it's all healthy and homemade, not that processed food drama. I love Excel Early Learning Center. They are ALL about the children. In addition, Ms. Barbara is a true gem. My daughter started coming when she was 10 weeks, and I was beyond nervous. After meeting Ms. Anissa, Ms. Amanda, and Ms. Olga, I knew that this was was the right place. They were the first people to get her to smile. My daughter would light up when she saw them. Honestly, I would light up too. These women are magical. When she moved to infant room 2, I was nervous again, but the ladies transitioned baby girl slowly. Ms. Shelby, Ms. Erica, and Ms. Noty ensure that my baby girl is happy and safe. Every time I pick her up, she seems like she is having the time of her life. Over the year I have witnessed a special community that is more of a family where great teaching is taking place. I love seeing older children almost daily show parents evidence of learning. Proudly handing their Moms and Dads work and art projects. Then through the cafeteria where you can still smell the balanced hot lunch. There is also always someone cleaning. I love how at breakfast the various teachers are helping little ones take pride in establishing healthy habits. Then through the play yard to the infant rooms. I could detail…read morehow terrible this was for us in length, but for any parents looking for a new school here are the highlights: Please only consider KinderHaus if your child is able to self soothe at 1 (which is likely not the case), has a complete control of their emotions at 1 and is able to articulate all of their needs again as a toddler. I would HIGHLY recommend against sending your child here if they experience even the slightest developmental delay because will be dismissed, due to not meeting the director's standards. We were at the school for 10 months and had seen three children dismissed that did not meet this absolutely outrageous requirements of toddlers. If your child requires additional love or care during nap time, this is not the place. Their policy is to call the parents to pick the child up for the day if they cannot sleep during nap. The director informed us she had told the teachers not to lay near or console my child during nap time as he is requiring "too much attention". The teachers are kind, but there is a strong disconnection between teachers and administration. As first time parents we entrusted the school with our baby and were greatly let down by administration. We had been working with the teachers on all fronts for son, who has delayed speech, but the acting director had not engaged in any of this until the day she abruptly released my son from school. We had been called to school because our son was not able to nap (which later found out is not a normal policy). When I arrive the director bombarded me and told me our son was being dismissed from school indefinitely and immediately without any advanced warning. As working parents this quite disruptive our family but more than anything our son had to have an intense change in his routine with no chance for adjustment. There was an apparent disconnection between administration and teachers after a change in administration because even the teacher were surprised by this extreme action. I will be the first to say my family is not perfect, but we are all doing our best. We had thought we had chosen a school that conducts itself with patience and respect, but the actions of its Director/Owner Pat made it very clear we were incorrect. With my son's delayed speech, we had been working with early steps to begin his therapies. We had been giving the teachers constant updates, but his development was not meeting the director's standards. She had told me his dismissal was due to his interruptions in class and outbursts. He had two biting incidents in the 10 months we were there and had been hands on, but we were told by teachers this was normal while his speech was progressing. We received no notes of Pat interacting with my son, and the first day she approached me regarding him was the day she kicked us out of school. She also immediately shared my child's confidential disciplinary actions with another parent, which is in direct violation of state licensing guidelines. I hope this review can help another parent make a decision that is right for your family. In camp and the school my child is now attending since this incident, it has been night and day with the patience and respect we are receiving from not only the teachers but the administration as well. My son attending this school from 12-22 months.

They have a nice little cozy breastfeeding room for me to use when I come. Playgrounds for the teeny tots on up to the 4 year olds. Although, we don't have access to them all the time (I'd like to), there are cameras everywhere so if you need to see something you can. The app they use makes communication easy throughout the day. I am a lifelong, professional educator having taught 44 years ranging from middle school to graduate school. I have a Ph.D. in education and am currently a high school teacher who also teaches 3-4 graduate education courses each year for LSU; and I serve on the Board of Directors of an "A-rated," metro-New Orleans PK-8 charter school. So, my review comes from a professional perspective. When my child's admission lottery number finally got us into DJOD, I was ecstatic! I truly believed DJOD would be a superior educational environment than the neighborhood public middle school. I could not have been more wrong!! DJOD was a huge disappointment and I totally regret pursing this educational opportunity for my child. Why? Over several years, I found the teachers to be inferior to the neighborhood school in their classroom teaching. My child's learning atrophied as too many of the teachers don't teach, rather they pointed their students to the internet and let online teach. Prior to beginning at DJOD, my child tested at grade-level or higher. Sadly, at the end of our time at DJOD, my child tested below grade-level. Worst of all, the teachers don't challenge the gifted and don't challenge early finishers. Prior to DJOD, both were managed quite well at the neighborhood school and I believe contributed much to strong academic progress and LEAP2025 mastery and advanced scores. At DJOD, the teachers appeared clueless with the gifted and early finishers. On top of all this, I personally experienced the lack of ethics of the school's administrators. DJOD's value form the acronym HEART and you hear and see HEART all over the school and from teachers / administrators mouths. Yet, while DJOD talks the talk of having HEART, I can attest personally they unfortunately cannot walk their talk. Their actions toward parents and students are HEARTLESS and unethical. In fact, I have concluded students and parents rank well behind everything especially their public face and brand. That's number one! How DJOD looks to the public. The prevailing administration attitude (all the way to the top) is: "DJOD is a choice; choose elsewhere, if you're not happy." Of course, through their lottery and waitlist, this translates to: "we don't care about you because we have plenty to replace you." How's that for HEART? Next, DJOD is a feminine culture and boys struggle to find their place in this feminine culture. Even worst, DJOD has no male role models for the boys. (Check out the DJOD directory and you'll see the lead administrators are female and there's only ONE male teacher.) So, in the end, as a professional educator (and, yes, as a parent), I have a very poor review of DJOD and strongly recommend you enter the school with eyes wide open - or better, stay away! When you pull back the curtain, it's not the school their leaders want you to see. Don't fall for the facade and double-talk. Good luck!
