Dachshund at the bar on a Sunday Afternoon

The Lazy Jack is the "best of everything" from the Lake Pontchartrain lakefront prior to 2005. I've been at different times of the week in different weather and it has always been a hoot! The consistently good live music may be offered by 2 musicians or 5, and the band members obviously enjoy being there as much as the customers. The food and drinks are great! The manager, staff, and clientele are always relaxed and friendly. Kids and pets are welcome. As advertised, The Lazy Jack is truly "...bringing Back The Lakefront, One Cocktail at a Time"! It's well worth the drive from anywhere!

Is this place still open? I drove by a couple weeks ago and it looked like it was undergoing a renovation.

I hope it's still open! There is a band scheduled to play at 2:00 on Sunday, March 8, 2020. I just checked out its Facebook page. They were closed for renovations.

Yet, it seems quite popular with locals and was fairly full for a Tuesday Trivia Night. I ordered a Pimm's cup since Pimm's was on the shelf - the bartender looked confused and told me they don't have any of the ingredients to make one. I changed my order to a flavored vodka - they don't stock any. I ended up ordering a Vodka & 7, but received a Vodka Soda. Were the drinks cheap? Not so much. Was the service friendly? Not so much. I ordered food hoping this was the redeeming feature of the bar. I ordered a steak sandwich at $18 - the service time was quick but the sandwich didn't have much flavor - it was a dry, difficult to bite through thin steak with not much flavor to speak of. The tater tots were crispy and hot and I loved the Brussel Sprouts; they were doused excessively in the dressing but I liked it. There is a nice patio out back - they had fans in this area which is always appreciated. This bar just didn't have the stock and amenities that many other bars in the area do have . Walk to magazine street for better options.

When you enter Cajun Mike's, it screams right into your face "Dive Bar!" From the tin ceiling to the well weathered bar top, fancy is not on the menu here. I came here because I heard their food was top notch, and I was hungry and grabbing food to go, so less walking to the hotel was the strategy so the food wouldn't be freezing when I got it back to the room. I perused the menu and decided on a few red beans and rice, a gator sausage po boy, a shrimp po boy and a roast beef po boy. I figured I may as well bring back a good sampling for both of us to try. I placed my order with the female bartender and then ordered a can of beer, no taps in this swanky joint. While I waited for my food to come out, I drank my beer and listened to the regulars and the bartender talk about various topics. My food was delivered pretty quickly, I then embarked on my walk back to the hotel. Once I arrived, we heated up the red beans and rice as it was not warm, but once it was, it was delicious. The big chunks of sausage really made it good and it had just the right amount of spice. All three of the po boy sandwiches were delicious in their own way: the shrimp was crispy and tender and full of flavor. The roast beef was full of flavor and absolutely delicious and the hair sausage was moist and flavorful as well. Each one was great in their own way. While o cannot speak much to the actual bar, since I spent limited time there, I can say the food here is outstanding. My beer was cold which is all I can ask for from a bar really. If you're hungry and don't want to venture down bourbon street, this place has great food that is reasonably priced.
