I even shared that a perm 15+ years ago had caused such severe breakage that I had to get a pixie cut. Since then, I had only used semi-permanent color and kept my hair one length, just below my shoulders, to maintain its health. Tanci assured me the highlights would be fine. However, the result was much lighter than I expected--not what I asked for, but I still liked it. Then, within two weeks, I experienced severe breakage. And by severe, I mean over half my hair snapped off, leaving strands anywhere from an inch to four inches long. I was in complete shock. When I called Tanci, she asked me to come back in. I wasn't blaming her; I just needed to understand how this had happened. Her response? "Some hair just can't take the process." That was it. No warning beforehand, no accountability. It wasn't until I went to another stylist for a consultation that I learned the truth--my hair had been horribly overprocessed. What followed was not just a bad haircut but a long and expensive recovery process: a drastic short cut with bangs, hundreds of dollars spent on treatments and products every month, and years of careful trimming to grow out the damage.
