I am a recent graduate from…read moreAvenue Five Institute in Austin and a Licensed Esthetician in the state of Texas, which is reputably one of the best "beauty" school programs in the Nation.  Avenue 5 offers an auxiliary Eyelash Extension Class which I took. After finishing it, I didn't feel secure or even capable of taking on clients or charging for services. I also shadowed a friend who paid a substantial amount to train with a reputable Austin based lash brand. While it wasn't terrible it was nowhere near the quality of education from LABS.  Enter LABS. LABS did a presentation at our North Campus in Austin and I was immediately intrigued. Dee's no nonsense yet funny persona pulled me in. We discussed their training program and here is where they separate themselves from their competition. 1. They do not offer crash courses  "Learn Classic and Volume for $1200+ in just 2 days" nonsense. They are focused on EDUCATION. They offer a 2 day Classic, 2 day Advanced Classic, 2 day Volume. All separate. Why is this important? Because trying to learn a high skill cap profession in 2 days with too much source material will simply take your money and set you up for failure. LABS DOES NOT DO THAT. They focus 100% on education, retention of that education and support after you finish their class. 2. Current Proprietary Curriculum. At Avenue Five I ended up paying far too much for a lash kit and virtually no true understanding of healthy practionining. Lash Health, Work Safety and Ergonomics. We were taught methods that were dated and contrary to current trends and equipment.  With LABS you are given a solid foundation of not just performing as a lash extension technician but how to maintain body health (wrists, back, shoulders, neck), and proper eyelash consultation and evaluation (what lashes and eyes look/do best with what types of lashes). 3. Growth & Critical Feedback. I'm a firm believer that without honest critical feedback, you will never grow. If you don't like being told what you're doing is wrong -- get out of this business, you are simply doing yourself and future customers a disservice. It is paramount you know exactly how good you are, where you stand, and where you need to grow. LABS does not MESS AROUND with this. Dee is the best. She is straight up but kind and supportive all at once. She will tell you immediately that you're doing something wrong but will sit with you until you get it right. She will not give up on you or let you give up on yourself. But if you are sensitive and need to be hand held and your performance sugar coated -- beat it. Go be bad somewhere else. 4. Tools. Their glue, lashes, and instruments are some of the best I've used and I've used quite a few, including JBLashes, Borboletta, EBL, and random high rated Amazon trash. You're given a wonderful discount for training with LABS which has made a big difference in the output of my work. My lash technique and performance after 2 days in an intensive Classic Training Class with LABS changed how I looked at my future and my skills. The difference in my work was tremendous. My lashes went from looking like sad mistakes to promising artistry. I cannot recommend their training program enough. Out of all my education, my money spent here was by far the best ROI I could hope for.  I absolutely plan to come back for Advanced Classic and Volume training.  It has been 3 months since I completed my course training with LABS and to this day I can text Dee and she will walk me through my work and continues to critique and offer endless continued support.

Spray lasted a day or so, the waxing ROUGH AF. I originally found her through Groupon. When I reminded her that I was using my Groupon, she appeared irritated, let out a heavy sigh, and then said, "Never mind," then honoring the Groupon. I returned because I had already purchased a package, which I now regret. On the last visit, I brought my child, who is autistic (ASD), after seeing other clients bring their children. During the appointment, my child was stimming and rocking. Jessica spoke to him very ugly and in a way I found harsh, telling him to stop because he was rocking into her furniture. I found the interaction upsetting and nasty. I have posted reviews about my experiences before, but they were removed after Jessica reported them. I disagree with that decision because these are my own firsthand experiences as a customer. Based on my experiences, I would not return or recommend her services.

I asked if hubby could come with and she said to bring him! We went in the next day and had a tour and had a bunch of fun playing musical chairs with all of the different treatments! We both did red light therapy, tanning machine, spray tan, it was a nice break. The salon is clean. I'm crazy about how things smell and there was a hint of lavender in some of the rooms. Very relaxing! We were going on a 3 week trip the next week so we left three weeks of treatments unused. When things slow down we will most likely go and get a membership! Over the past few appointments, getting to know Sasha and her sister Francesca has been such a gift. They are warm, kind, and genuinely supportive people. This is not just a beauty studio. It feels like a safe space, especially during a really vulnerable time. And the services themselves are incredible. Francesca did my lip blushing, and while it can sting a bit, the end result was honestly great. She has such a steady hand and the end result was lips perfectly colored. Sasha did my brows and lash lines and was so meticulous, making sure everything was just right. It absolutely shows. This is not just a Yelp review for me. When I got off the table, I was shocked. As I already signed the waiver, I paid the discounted bill and left. I have no idea how much it's going to cost, or if it's even possible to fix this. Just a warning...it seems only "standard" shape and color are available at this studio and not the nano hairlines advertised. The first photo is what I asked for. The second is what I got. I'm not 30 and didn't want a 30 year olds brows. Apparently what I wanted was irrelevant.

She's also a great teacher as she teaches others her craft. Her studio is beautiful and clean. Her staff are friendly. There's plenty of parking out front. She did a really great job on my ombre brows but she does a mean nano hair stroke that looks so real. She also does eyeliner and lips, nipple tattooing for cancer patients and tattooing for balding men/women. There are an array of services she does including lashes (classic hybrid and volume) and micro blading. I highly recommend Wendy for your permanent makeup needs!!!
