There comes a time once a summer season where a group of 6-10 F**kin' Illinois People (FIPS, as I…read morehear we are referred to) migrate from the bustling city of Chicago to the small beach town known as Monticello, IN. You see, a large group of us college friends living in the city, and some new friends we've picked up along the way, enjoy visiting our friend from college working her dream job in the dreamy Hoosier State. Our plan is simple: travel by car to the land of "two-bedrooms with parking, a yard, in-unit washer/dryer, and a dishwasher for $400 a month", load up on sustenance, cruise on the boat in Lake Shafer all day, get silly, take over a bar, and make decisions that should only be made by freshman college girls. Our usual poor decision spot closed a few months ago and, this time around, Sayler's became our latest watering hole debacle. And so begins my open letter to Sayler's. Dear Sayler's, Thanks for gracefully dealing with the presence of by 6 FIPS and our 4 local friends this past weekend. From the moment we hit the boat at 11AM Saturday morning we knew that any establishment in the Monticello area would be "happy" to have us as patrons. Your close proximity to our home base made you an easy target for our debauchery and fun that we surely brought. Your $12 beer buckets and less than $3 shots insured that we would be even more fun than we already were by giving us crazy amounts of liquid courage. This helped us negotiate with the DJ when choosing songs for the bar (we were sad to find out he did not have "Midnight Train to Georgia"), populate what was a vacant dance floor, and demonstrate to the rest of the bar patrons how to do planking exercises in multiple places throughout the bar. I can only hope that we were not only a fun presence to be around, but that we also taught your customers important fitness techniques. Although we felt we may have overstayed our welcome by the end of the night (thanks to the girl who tried to "start something" in the bathroom with a friend), thankfully we had one friend who was able to keep us in check, offer a shield or protection, and help us get on our merry way. We still hope you welcome us back the next time you are in town. Signed, Me PS Terri, I hope you had a great 50th birthday party. We sure had fun!

Rugie's Dugout will catch your eye from the outside and then knock you out by what they're offering…read moreyou inside. They have all the... ahem... bases covered here! We stopped in with a small group (11 of us) around 7:00p on a Friday and secured the last two tables available. The service was a tad slow from the get-go but when our waitress came around for drink orders it was firing it all cylinders! (I wish I could remember her name but she did say her sister owns the place) She was an absolute pro and took care of everything we could've asked for without hesitation. She was a treat! Oh, and I feel like she created their POS system b/c she knew how to make that thing bend to her will! The menu seems small but it is packed with all kinds of things that anyone would be able to find something. I went with the Mango Habanero wings and they were delicious! Someone else went with the Home Run sandwich and raved about it. Needless to say, everyone was more than happy with their orders! The dining room was also a pleasant experience. Not quiet but also not loud, the perfect amount of ambiance to feel like a typical sports bar (with more restaurant feel than bar). There are ample tables of all sizes and plenty of TVs, plus a jukebox (which was turned off for "dinner time", which was perfect). We absolutely loved our experience at Rugie's and cannot wait to return again next time we're in the area.

What a great place! We are in town for a wedding and stopped for lunch. Great comfort food! I had…read morethe BLT, came with a stack of really good bacon and American Cheese already on it (that's a plus in my book!!). My husband had the Pork Tenderloin sandwich, Wow huge and delicious! Of course I had to have a bite and to me it's the best I've had! Definitely check it out if you have the chance!

Smoked kielbasa as an appetizer on the menu? Heck yeah, I'm here for it. And you know what? The…read moresmoked kielbasa was even better than I was hoping it would be. It came with three different sauces: beer-infused mustard, tangy barbecue and creamy horseradish. I could have just sat here and ate charred pork and drank beer and I would have been happy. We also got a Caesar salad, which was OK but would have been a bit better if it came dressed -- the dressing came on the side. The wedge salad was good but was less of a wedge and more of a regular salad. Fenwick Farms has a kids menu, which features things like cheeseburgers, buttered noodles, chicken strips and other kid-friendly foods. Each kids meal comes with a side and a dessert (ice cream sundae), although we didn't get our ice cream, but it was fine because my kids didn't need anymore sugar that day. Speaking of kids: They have free arcade games to play! My kids played Pac-Man and NBA Jam while we waited for our food. The Fenwick Farms Brewing Co. beer is made right here at the brewery, and this is the first and only craft brewery in Rensselaer. They have 30 different beers on tap (most their own, some guest beers), and they offer flights. Indiana knows how to do craft beer, and FFBC is another great example of great beer.
