The menu is full of unique creations that you won't find anywhere else. Even if this café were in Edmonton I'd say that the menu is unique. We both had bubble waffle breakfasts. Mine was a combination of a Bennie and a bubble waffle. The eggs were poached very nicely and the hollandaise sauce had some horseradish mixed in. Unfortunately the roast beef was dry despite the sauce. I enjoyed the breakfast but the roast beef was disappointing. I washed it down with my coffee and that coffee was just right. My partner ordered the Breakfast Bubble Sandwich. I was surprised to see that it included potatoes as they don't normally go with waffles. She said it didn't have much flavour and she asked for some surup to help it out. This could be a fine breakfast place with a few tweaks here and there. I still might choose it over some of the other establishments in town as I value unique menu offerings and locally owned business. I heard the server talking to another customer and saying that they were closed last week because of the lack of staff. That's a problem everywhere but it's probably even more challenging here in Lloydminster where heavy industry pays big wages that are hard to compete with. Do I recommend The Diner? I'm not sure if I can recommend it at this time but they have lots of potential if they can iron out a few issues (the same issues that probably effect the other restaurants in town).

This place was perfect - a small-town family friendly restaurant on the main street. Picture white paper table coverings, local rural decorations on the wall, and friendly staff. The focus is their meat: lots of traditional BBQ fare like brisket, pulled pork, etc. They also have a large burger and breakfast menu as well as a few other random items like a Ukrainian plate with perogies, sausage and cabbage rolls. The soup of the day was beef barley and not only did it look like a delicious home made soup, but my friend said it tasted excellent too. The mushroom burger looked awesome with tons of gravy. I most enjoyed all the side dishes. The star was the beans - OMG they were perfect. Also the best mac and cheese I've ever had at a restaurant. It looks unassuming, but trust me - it's super creamy and full of cheesy goodness. Even the onion rings were awesome, which I find most restaurants can't seem to pull off. I'd recommend the pulled pork which is apparently the town favorite.

Right along the main highway, it's difficult to miss the large sign. The sign is larger than the restaurant. It isn't cramped inside, but its occupancy is about 30 people max. The decor is outdated and the seat covers are covered in plastic. Classy. Do people tend to do their bathroom business while they eat that would call for the Italian furniture treatment? We were greeted by an incredibly friendly server that throughout our time there, was constantly checking on her customers with a smile, and overall a big plus to the experience. Since I was in a diner-like atmosphere, I figured that the same traditional care for food would be involved. I ordered the lasagna. The good news is that the meat sauce is made in house. The bad news is that it was sweet, having too much sugar added when it was made. I expected the Kool Aid man to bust through the wall with a meatball in his jug. On top of that, it wasn't lasagna beyond the noodles. It was the same fake bar 'lasagna' that too many places serve. Meatsauce, noodles & cheese do not a lasagna make. 1 out of 4 of us really liked the meal, hers being the burger, so if I stop by again I'll give that a try.
