My wife and I lived at The Kingsley for three years, and recently moved a few blocks away, as we purchased a condo. I have to say, before renting here, it had been nearly 30 years since I last rented an apartment. I recall that it was considered sport to commiserate with other residents and lampoon ridiculous management policies and procedures. Not here. Everyone you'll encounter are total pros, and everyone works to make your experience at the Kingsley awesome. Communications from the Management office were, clear, lucid, and succinct. For large-scale work events in the building, like garage floor maintenance, communication was handled with deft and aplomb and informed residents of exactly what was going on when and what to expect. Charges against our security deposit on move-out were fair and reasonable. The good: The building itself is modern, beautiful, and meticulously maintained. The maintenance staff sees to it. The building is mostly occupied by professionals and never had an issue with late-night frat parties and carrying on. Everyone is generally respectful of living in a building with shared walls and ceilings/floors. But it is an apartment building with lots of other people, and you will hear some noises on occasion. The location is great too. There's a lot of new construction in North Old Town and I feel confident it will the place to be in Old Town over the next couple of years. The staff arrange lots of social events to meet your neighbors, and it was cool to meet and mingle. I met some very interesting folks there. It's Old Town, so in absolute numbers the rent seems high, but to be honest, I thought it represented good value for what you get in return. Your mileage may vary, depending on your perspective. Opportunities for improvement: One area to be aware of if you're a full-time bicycle commuter. Bicycle parking is tight, and losing a parking spot is common. This wouldn't be an issue with ample parking for bicycles. One bike cage is located right next to a parking spot, and if that spot is occupied, it can be difficult or impossible to get your bike in or out. That made that bike cage next to useless, in my opinion. I reached out to the Management office on more than one occasion to raise this issue, but never heard anything in return. This is a first-world problem, I suppose, but a more robust bike parking infrastructure would have helped quite a bit -- especially as this part of Alexandria is located near so much bicycling infrastructure and is a great place to be a full-time bike commuter. I give the Kingsley four stars, though, and can highly recommend it to anyone considering living here. read more

My daughter and I had a fantastic tour at the Kingsley with Melissa (sp?) hope I am spelling her name properly. Can't say enough about our tour guide. Thoroughly enjoyed the information and what a fabulous building conveniently close to shopping etc. Since injuring the muscles in my thighs and in physical therapy this would be a plus for me not having to navigate hills. My wife and I recently moved into a beautiful apartment at 'The Kingsley' in Old Town Alexandria North. Our experience has been awesome. Everyone on the Kingsley staff have been exceedingly helpful in welcoming us to our new home. The building itself sits atop a large Harris Teeter grocery store and is one block from a Traders Joe's. There are plenty of parks on the Potomac and a wide variety of restaurants within walking distance. A great place to live. The apartment building is well cared for by friendly maintenance and custodial staff. Special thanks to Maria and Diane helping us with the business side of moving in. Also, KUDOs to Zoya, one of several concierges, who went above and beyond to help us while we were out of town. All the concierges do a fantastic job and provide professional services. We are looking forward to a long stay at The Kingsley. read more

Great property but the management has deteriorated recently. As a resident, I asked the PM about changing out the audio/visual connections on the workout equipment from the 5 yr old to the current lightning bolt connection.....one month later after no update I asked and was told she'd turned it over the the maintenance man...who left!!!! Asked concierge if she could have maintenance fix the fire pits in both common areas..."today, seriously?". Ultimately, and not "today" or within a week, only one of two were fixed. The TV / audio on the 5th floor guest lounge were almost impossible to operate and at one point, the management disconnected the controllers for one of the TV's. The concierges of late seem to have attitudes and they change quickly; we had three or four during our seven month stay. There were a number of Bozzuto personnel in the building at various desks but we never knew who they were or what their roles were. It was as though they were avoiding us tenants. It all became very surreal and odd. We've since moved but understand it has gotten worse since our departure. I'd check out the Gables Old Town North before heading to the Kingsley. Again, great physical property but the management has gone way down hill and I could not recommend it as an apartment rental. read more

I've lived in Old Town for 4 years and I'm in the process of downsizing from a townhouse to an apartment. I was seriously excited about touring the 2+ bdrm apartments at The Kingsley. I called and spoke with the leasing agent, made an appointment almost a week in advance, and received a confirmation TEXT that my appointment was for 5:30. I took off work early, arrived 5 min prior to the appointment, and the leasing agent said there is no record of my appointment and the policy is no appointments after 5. She was very dismissive and didn't seem concerned when I advised her of what transpired with the agent on the phone. I was walking out and remembered the text, I turned around and showed it to her and all I got back was a dead eyed stare shoulder shrug. Then she looks at her computer and says oh we sent you an email earlier today to cancel(I never received)...to which I asked "why wouldn't you send the cancellation in the same method as the confirmation, by text or phone call?" Again she shrugged and said "glitch". Wow! If they can't even make an appointment correctly, communicate cancellations, and have apathetic customer service, then I definitely don't need to live here. There are plenty of other apartments more than willing to take my money... BTW-I could see her computer screen, she was busy surfing the web; I guess we interrupted her online shopping. read more

We have lived in this apartment building for over 12 months and just wanted to let people know the positive and the negatives of living at the Kingsley. NEGATIVES They don't have 24 hours concierge. This was promised by the manager at the time (I say this as there have been 4) once occupancy was at 80%. We achieved this months ago and this has not happened. Because we don't have 24 hour concierge, out of hours issues can't be addressed as we don't have anyone to talk to at the time. We have been told by management to just call the police but I think they have much better things to do than come to our building because of noise, people doing inappropriate things, vagrants in the lobby, and other general day to day issues that happen after 5pm on the weekends. When you report an issue it often takes a long time To receive a response. As an example I had to send six emails and have two follow up conversations about a cracked window in the club room. We have also reported an issue with an oven in the club room that had a cracked glass tray. We were told that it was to be repaired but, as it was under warranty, it was taking a while. This has been broken for around 16 months now. After a further follow up the other week, we were told that the part had been ordered and would be fixed next week. We have since found out that the wrong part was delivered and the correct part is on its way. We will see. Trash rooms are not very big and always have a pile up on the weekends. POSITIVE The concierge staff are great and always greet you with a smile. We hope that management recognise the high regard that that the tenants have for them. The maintenance staff are always friendly and helpful for apartment issues. read more

I just moved out of the Kingsley after over a year in order to be closer to work on Capital Hill. I was sad to leave. The Kingsley was the finest residence I've ever experienced. I found the lobby and club room to be sophisticated and in excellent taste - pictures do not do it justice. I think this reflects the residents this boutique-sized complex generally attracts, who are largely quiet, professional empty-nesters. This is not a place for party-prone twenty-somethings and boompa stereos. This carries forth to the outdoor areas, which are much more suited to elegant evenings with wine rather than beer-fueled parties. I think lack of a pool contributes greatly to this ambience. The Kingsley was the quietest residence I've ever lived in, and I found the leasing and concierge staff highly professional without exception. The place is kept in new condition by the maintenance staff. The apartments were apparently constructed with the latest energy-efficient techniques, evidenced by my need to switch on the heat perhaps five times during the entire winter. I once lived in a place that had tiny hot water heaters that caused showers to run cold after a short time - here I had no problems with multiple showers when I had guests. Regarding location, no need to go into detail - it's Old Town. The 24hr Harris Teeters below can be accessed without going outdoors if need be. Earlier in my stay when the place was still relatively new there were some minor issues with the garage door malfunctioning and recycling rooms filling up too quickly, but those were quickly addressed months ago. Upon leaving the only opportunity I can think of for improvement - and I have to reach for this - is to perhaps dilute the fragrance diffusers a bit, as they can be overwhelming at times. That's it. In short, while it may have been priced a bit higher than comparable space at neighboring venues, not once did I ever feel I wasn't getting what I was paying for. If you're a professional looking for an elegant place to reside, are fond of dogs (it's definitely a pet-friendly place), and are seeking to avoid some typical drawbacks to apartment living that may be of concern elsewhere, then you should check this place out. read more

My boyfriend and I have been living in The Kingsley since September and have absolutely loved it. The staff is fantastic - super friendly and accommodating, and it's nice feeling more included and engaged even with the management and not just the concierge folks. They do a great job communicating things going on with the building and also set up a fair amount of social activities for tenants (could always use more though as more folks move in!). The actual apartments are just great. Since they're brand new, it's nice knowing you're not getting refurbished or second-hand appliances. The kitchens are gorgeous (LOVE the backsplash!), vinyl flooring is a lot nicer than all carpet, and they're incredibly spacious. We live in a one bedroom that has massive closets, so we even converted one into an "office". I think we're in the only unit that doesn't have a balcony (we have Juliet balconies, which means basically just sliding doors), but it's almost unnecessary since the courtyard has plenty of tables, chairs, and grills. And there's always the rooftop area (when it's warm at least) and the party room, which is really nice! Overall we've been very happy here. When we first moved in there was still a lot of construction going on, but the staff was incredibly accommodating and gave the tenants nice surprise gifts for our patience, which I feel is unheard of in the larger complexes where tenants are not as valued. Oh and the location is great too - not too close to King Street where you have to suffer through traffic (at least if you're coming from the north...), close to the water so there are great trails and parks nearby, there's a Bikeshare right next door, AND you're right on top of Harris Teeter and next to Trader Joe's - how can you go wrong with that?! All in all, great place to live! You definitely can't go wrong living here. read more

The good: the building is beautiful, and I loved it when I first moved in. My apartment looks lovely, the residents are great (mostly friendly young professionals + many dogs :)), the people who work here are nice, and everything is kept immaculately clean. I have yet to find a bug in my apartment! I chose the building for its location: my top priority was being close to a park by the water where I could walk my beloved old dog, and this was the best I found. The amenities are awesome, I especially love the gym; it is the nicest I've ever seen in a building, and has a lot of equipment you usually only find in high-end gyms. The courtyard is also lovely, though I wish dogs were allowed, at least on the paved areas (I understand why they would not want dogs using it as a bathroom, it is too small a space for too many dogs and would likely start looking gross pretty quickly). The bad: I am confident that there *are* apartments in the building that i would love, but I do not like my own. The building was designed such that you potentially have to walk 3 VERY VERY LONG hallways to get out. This might be fine for the able-bodied, but my dog has severe arthritis and can barely walk some days. It takes us 8 min just to reach the elevator, and by the time we get out, she no longer has the leg energy to make it to the park 2 blocks away. I am not sure about the building insulation: I've seen other reviews praising the building for being quiet, but I hear a tremendous amount of noise from my upstairs neighbor in the middle of the night. But again, I've not heard this complaint from others, so I think it may be just my particular neighbor. The good, again: I contacted management a couple weeks ago to ask if it might be possible to transfer apartments mid-lease. I just got a very helpful response, and it looks like I"ll soon be able to move much closer to the elevator. So, I am again a happy tenant, and intend to stay in this building. read more

The staff at this community make it a special place to live. The units are very nice, but all the staff here make it a PERFECT community.

My boyfriend and I have lived here with our dog since September and have been very pleased with our experience! The staff have all been extremely friendly and eager to make residents feel comfortable and at home. We have only had a couple very minor issues with our appliances which were resolved in no more than 24 hours by maintenance. The building offers an online resident portal to submit repair requests which makes life very easy. Our 1-BR apartment feels spacious and we love all of the features particularly the granite in the kitchen & bathroom, large closet space, and almost floor to ceiling windows in the living room & bedroom. We have enjoyed the buildings amenities including the beautiful clubroom, gym, roof terrace with urban fire pits, and courtyard with grills! Just last week we were finally able to enjoy grilling dinner outside in the warm weather. We have also become quite spoiled having a 24/7 Harris Teeter right in the building. We have a young dog and love how pet friendly the building is! She has also loved living here given its close proximity to parks and walking trails. We will be sad to eventually move from the Kingsley for work/school as it has raised a high bar for our future residences! read more

If I could give a zero star rating to this building I would. The leasing management is extremely disorganized and lacks transparency. When I mentioned that I was looking to move in July they quoted me rates for an immediate move-in without realizing that they would not be able to honor those rates for my move in time frame. I placed a deposit with those misquoted rates in mind and after I placed the deposit they got back to me via email and told me that they would not be able to honor the originally offered rate quoted because I was looking to move in July which is longer than 10 days from when the apt would be available. While I understand that every building would like their apts rented out, there must be transparency in the rental process especially after a security deposit has been put down. Additionally, the leasing agent (Emily) was unaware that there would be a price difference in the rent and management was completely inflexible about honoring the rates misquoted by their own employee. Additionally, it is extremely difficult to get any of the members of the leasing office on the phone despite numerous voicemails. As a health care professional in this highly stressful and unprecedented time, I am simply appalled. It is not the change in price, but the lack of integrity that is shocking. If the word of a leasing agent is so worthless , then why have one in the first place?! And if her word carries weight, and she has made an error and a security deposit has been placed based on it, then to honor it would be right thing to do. This whole process has been a nightmare is their lack of flexibility to honor their own mistakes at the cost of a few dollars is just poor business management and personal relations. read more

My boyfriend, dog, and I moved into the Kingsley this past weekend. The staff, especially Samnang and Jay, have been extremely helpful through the entire process from signing the paper work to reserving the elevator on move-in day. They made our transition into the new apartment absolutely seamless and efficient. The building is gorgeous. Very clean, spacious, with a lot of space for entertaining and relaxing alike; It is clear that they paid great attention to detail when designing and constructing the building and units. All of their processes are very easy and everyone is so helpful and polite. You can't ask for a better place in the heart of Old Town! read more

Be careful when you drop off an application that you don't give them any money! If you decide to leave elsewhere, it will take you over a month to get a refund of that application fee! read more
