This is high-end pub grub, well-cooked and fresh ingredients but not trying to be too fancy. In the summer they have tables outside where you can have an evening beer or two. Outside there is a car park, a nice beer garden where children can also play (weather permitting), and a barn that has been converted into hotel-style accommodation. The pub has a very traditional frontage on the street, with hanging baskets; there is a carpark at the rear, with a largish outdoor eating area with about 20 tables. Starters are around £5-7; Mains are between £9-£12, though portions are generous. We had the bacon chops, served with a free range fried egg, garden peas, onion rings and chips (£10.49); and the soya "meatballs" in a spicy tomato sauce with penne and rocket (£10.79). It was a hot day anyway but this made us even more uncomfortable that we had been shunted to the corner with hardly any space. We then chose to dine outside to give us more room due to the lack of air conditioning inside and lack of space they had given us. Then when we ordered out meals lots of small requests made upon ordering had not been acknowledged and when we advised the waiter off the problems he simply tutted and stomped off back to the kitchen with NO apology. They then brought out the children's meal last again with all the wrong choices and to our disgust all of the fish goujons were burnt to a crisp so not edible and the mash was crispy and hard not at all satisfactory. Apart from the steak everything else was just average. Unfortunately we will not be returning to dine again as we received such poor customer service and a terrible standard of food.
