Yes I know everyone is tired of all my Wetherspoon reviews as I've now eaten in at least 21 of their pubs (and some of them very regularly) but here is another!!!! Well, this very old building is very easy to find being at the top of the shopping street overlooking Agincourt Square. It's very spacious inside with a pleasant quiet atmosphere - as the town was extremely busy yesterday we'd thought it would be packed out but not so. The staff were friendly and helpful as usual for this pub chain (which is one reason why we use them so much when travelling about) and Steph was particularly nice. There's free wireless internet access provided by 'The Cloud' which is a useful thing to have. Lots of real ales on offer including Ruddles, Abbots, Guinness and guest beers - which yesterday included Bath's 'Rare Hare' and Manchester's 'Wobbley Bob'. We waited for one of the Vale of Glamorgan ales to 'settle' but when I went back to the bar it had been removed for some reason. The food was mostly good except for a side order of vegetables I had - the carrots were very rubbery. I think they'd been left in a microwave too long. Sited at Agincourt Square this Wetherspoons owned hotel, restaurant and pub was a perfect spot to cool off and take some cold refreshment on the hot day I visited Monmouth. The hotel (classed as a JD Wetherspoon Lodge) looked basic, but clean and tidy with rooms available from £44 a night for a single, with doubles from £54. The bar area, which served regular Wetherspoons fair was slightly down at heel but had character, enlivened by the few local characters in residence. However what distinguished this establishment from most JDWs was the fact that it is in a 17th century coaching inn, which was reputedly visited by King Charles I during the English Civil War. The bar area consequently stretched across several small and adjoining rooms, giving it a rambling feel. It also has a large beer garden. read more

Typical Weatherspoon but it has a very friendly feel. I recall walking into this place and having a very friendly feeling about it. There are loads of little rooms which break up the standard pub feeling and allow you to "withdraw" into a little room and enjoy some peace and quiet there. Some of the rooms are really nice and really quite lovely. The pub could be a bit cleaner but then again its a Weatherspoon and I have been in a lot worse as well. The food is delivered fast and tastes very well which is a key item. The staff are very friendly and helpful and added to the positive experience of this visit. read more

I visited this weatherspoon pub on the 27/05/11. I oreded a drink at the bar after waiting around 15mins to be served,the pub was'nt really busy and there was at least 3 staff behind bar.the staff where moody and one member who I noticed to be Tracy was being very rude and arragant to anouther customer,when he complained and ask'd for the head office phone no he was told to leave and not to return.from what I could gather he had made a complaint about a member of staff called chris had been picking his nose behind the bar a few days previous,and as a result of this complaint he felt he was being treated with bad attiude,I witness'd the woman called tracy being abrupt abd very stroppy with this customer. I ran pubs for a long time in the south east and could not believe how this customer was being treated,we all as customers have the right to complain about such a serious issue.when i went out to the garden area I noticed that not only the pub but the garden also was full of dirty dishes and glass's every where.maybe the staff should concentrate on this more than vitimiseing a customer for bringing a health and safety issue to there attention. I will never return to this pub or reccomend to my customers, My heart felt feeling go out to the customer Ive mentioned. bad really bad.!!! read more

If I could give zero stars then I would, awful customer service. My friends and I went into this Whetherspoons today at lunch time. We and many other people the same age as us have been into this branch many a time and have been served food no problem. But there seems to be this one member of staff who enforces the rule that you have to be 16, this rule seems to only be enforced by one member of staff, who doesn't go about it in a nice manner. He proceeded to tell us that we had to get out, my friend then explained that we were in fact 16, he accused my friend of lying because " of her stutter" which she has to deal with throughout her life. When my friend proceeded to offer a solution by showing a picture of her passport that STILL wasn't good enough, if we were attempting to buy alcohol then I could see where he was coming from. Your google search produces a section which says "good for kids" and "casual" both of these have not been shown today. read more
