If experience has taught me anything, it's too always be wary of pubs and clubs that have punchbag games in them. If I was wary of going in the Junction beforehand, once I went inside and saw one such game, I knew my intuition had been right.,
Before I ever went in this place, the things I'd noticed the most about it were that it always seemed very full very early in the mornings; and the music. The Junction constantly seems to be playing music which is piped out into the street via a speaker screwed to the wall of the smoking area.
The inside of the pub is frankly a complete mess. As well as the punchbag, there's a random cream leather sofa with a big hole in it. In fact, most of the seating I saw had holes in it, the tables were severely chipped and scratched and the boards behind the bench-seating had big pieces broken out of them.
The service was pleasant enough and the few locals in there seemed friendly, but the decor is desperate. The only thing that stops it getting one star is that just before I left some very loud (and very good) Jamaican ska came bursting out the speakers, which cheered me up.
I'm guessing The Junction is best experienced on weekend nights, when everyone's too hammered to notice what a state the place is. read more
