I'd walked past this pub a few times without ever having gone in. However, going by the regular site of chavs inside walking round a pool table talking animatedly on their mobile phones, I'd assumed it was a place best avoided.
Anyway, the other afternoon, I went in and found myself pleasantly surprised. The main bar is a fairly long, thin room with a dart board (the pool table's in another room) and a tele, which at this time of day was showing 'Four in a Bed'. The lady behind the bar was friendly and the drinks were cheap. The decor, like pretty much every pub in this part of the world, is a little tired and dated but the friendly atmosphere more than made up for that.
I wouldn't say I'd go there regularly, more because they don't have the widest choice of drinks out of the local pubs than anything else, but I won't be so quick to avoid it in the future. read more
