First-Hand Experience: Info on my personal visit to this stadium - I wasn't here to visit MCS, I was here to visit the main campus of Notre Dame and their main stadium. But when my hosts (who have asked to be named K & F) mentioned the story of this place, I had to come and check it out. It's very impressive and so is the story. I love that the family made this happen, and I think they did a wonderful job on it. If you visit ND campus, like I did, then check this part out. I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. Also, on future travels, I plan to take new pix, and add more stadia! Watch this space! ***back to regular review*** Actually this stadium is named after a girl who tragically died recently when scaffolding from the John Hancock Center fell and killed her. It's a wonderful Softball arena, and my friend in South Bend showed me this field when she was telling me the sad story. I think it's wonderful that Notre Dame did this to remember Melissa, and even more wonderful that it turns out it was paid for by the family.

Visited Notre Dame during Labor Day weekend and truly enjoyed my time there. The campus is gorgeous…read moreand everyone from students, university volunteers, staff to the President made us feel welcome. During the weekend, we caught the Tennessee State University vs Notre Dame football game (Go BIG BLUE!) - both teams played their hearts out and the marching bands put on an incredible halftime performance (AOB in the House!). The whole gameday atmosphere was electric from vendors on the streets to the alumni enjoying the many festivities! The Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the Grotto were highlights, though I'll admit I didn't fully understand their significance until taking a self-guided tour (which I recorded - so glad I did!). During my tour of the Basilica, I was fortunate enough to witness people gathering in the pews, awaiting the organist's performance. I stayed for the small concert and was completely moved - the music echoing through that sacred space was truly special. You can see the magnificent instrument from the main floor. The entire church interior and exterior with the spectacular dome is a beautiful sight before your eyes. Later I learned the Basilica dates back to 1871 with one of the largest collections of 19th-century French stained glass anywhere. The Grotto is actually a one-seventh replica of the famous one in Lourdes, France, built in 1896. It's a sacred place where visitors light candles for prayer and reflection - an important spiritual landmark that represents the university's Catholic heritage. I lit several candles while I was there, it was a very peaceful and spiritual experience. Some quick tips: *Be careful where you park or you'll get ticketed. There are parking fees too. *Don't miss their bookstore - it's amazing and has something for everyone. The associates in the bookstore were very helpful. *Book hotels early, especially during football season. *There are good grocery stores nearby for room snacks and plenty of restaurants downtown. *Ubers and Lyfts are plentiful if you don't rent a car. *Do a little homework before you arrive so you can plan your day, in other words check the website before you arrive on campus. Knowledge is power! *Wear comfortable shoes - you'll do tons of walking, especially with kids at football games! Absolutely worth visiting for the beautiful architecture, grounds, and rich history that unfolds as you explore and don't forget to check out Touch Down Jesus too! As their fight song goes: 'Wake up the echoes cheering her name!'

Notre Dame does a lot to show honor to the people who have been here before us. And we love coming here! On Game Day, before you enter the stadium, you can line up to watch the players, coaches and staff parade into the stadium led by the bagpipe players. I did that for the first time, up close and personal with my husband this year. What a trip!! We met a father and son who love tradition the way we do and had a great time chatting with them for a while. Once things got going, my husband was shaking hands and high-fiving with everyone within arm's reach. It doesn't take much to make us happy. Once inside the stadium, well, that's when the magic happens. There a feeling that you're among greatness. Go ahead as tease, but I love it here. And there is a lot to see too. There are some spots for a great view of Touchdown Jesus. Plenty of spots to take memorable photos together. It's been a sellout crowd for quite a while now and they seat somewhere over 80,000 fans at one time. Wow! Unfortunately, the seating part leaves something to be desired but that's part of the historic charm. At almost 85 years old, this stadium boasts lovely wooden bleacher seating for most of the seats. Thankfully, we don't sit for most of the game. We are usually up cheering on our team in one way or another. Hot cocoa is a necessary staple item when visiting this stadium. Don't skip it. A Game Day pin never hurt anyone either. ;-) This year, they replaced the grass with turf. Honestly, it's a sight to behold. Just beautiful. We have sat all around the stadium. From the very top row to right above the student section (craziest time ever!!) to the day we somehow procured seats in the alumni section and could literally feel the honor of being there to my very first game in the pouring rain soaked to my core just below the press box. Every seat in the house is a great seat! GO IRISH!!!

Visited Notre Dame Law School in early January...just when the campus had been reopened from…read moreChristmas break. There still were no classes or students on campus, but the buildings were open so we could get a peek inside. Notre Dame Law School is smack dab in the middle of the campus...easy reach from everything. The facilities - split between Eck Hall (mostly classrooms and faculty offices) and Biolchini Hall (mostly administrative offices and a few large classrooms, besides the four story Kresge Library) - are very nice...everything concerning the Law School is contained in these two interconnected buildings. This location happens to be on the marching band route on football days also, so it is a very popular site. The Law School facilities are nice and modern and they have tons of room. The law school used to be smooshed into Biolchini Hall...but the 2009 addition of Eck Hall pretty much doubled the space and gave everything more room. As you enter Eck Hall, you enter a three-story atrium connecting the first few floors with the classrooms and the main courtroom. The moot courtroom is laid out as a normal courtroom, but it also has a large sliding screen in front that shields the judges bench for straight classroom seating...nice convertible addition. This is where most of the guest speakers deliver the goods. As to the classrooms - many are laid out like traditional rectangles, others in the pie-wedge shape...all seem to have up-to-date technology keeping students plugged in. The lecture and seminar rooms were very nice and on the newish side. It is obvious the Law School is reinvesting in its property. The Kresge Law library in Biolchini Hall is superb. Carrels, large tables, easy seating, breakout rooms, and more are strewn about all four floors making for loads of options for the students. There are only enough carrels for 100 or so, so not everyone can have one assigned for the semester. Overall seating is over 550 though, so there is lots of space. With all the seating and study space, there is also a main reading room in the library. With soaring gothic windows and atrium space this library has a very open and spacious feeling. Lockers for the students are on the lower level in Biolchini Hall. The second floor connecting link between the two buildings houses a cafeteria for students and faculty. Notre Dame's Law School is well-ranked in the top-25 tier of schools and the faculty is well regarded. Being located less than two hours away from the major legal market of Chicago, the school has the benefit of job/internship opportunities for students. When we were out looking at law schools, we stopped by for a visit...even though we showed up unannounced they had someone in the Admissions Office who set us on a self-guided tour of the facilities...nice touch. It just showed a welcoming attitude, and a school that is not resting on its laurels. A good choice for a top-25 law school less than 2 hours from Chicago.

I remember freaking out when she was accepted because I know my father would have wanted her to attend. The acceptance letter arrived postmarked on his birthday. It was a message from heaven I couldn't ignore. Reality set in when I had to budget the expense for travel, tuition, room and board and more. My daughter worked in high school and she had to hold a part time job through college and full time in summers. She's definitely the product of a single parent household with no financial support from anyone else! As for campus Notre Dame Stadium is my favorite college football stadium. I would watch Notre Dame play anywhere but being in this historic stadium is always spiritually moving. Another campus favorite is the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. It is a historic college landmark. I've been to the University of Notre Dame on many occasions over the years. I've also visited during every season of the year. I always visit the grotto when I tour the campus. Naturally I light a candle for my hearts desire at the time I visit. I remember my daughter's Senior Year I prayed for my daughter to get a job when she graduated! Education is the bottom line including the support the university provides to the students they accept. Whatever assistance you need to pass a required course is available to students. My daughter had a Tudor for her math class. On campus employment is available and definitely job placement after graduation. My daughter applied to have a job mentor in her senior year. Her mentor helped her dress and coached her regarding everything from resume writing to job interview skills including how to dress. I can't count all the blessings and the change in my life because my child has a degree from the University of Notre Dame. I'm definitely riding on her coattails. If you or your child are fortunate enough to get accepted by all means attend and take your studies seriously! You won't regret it.

This is the second kiddo hockey tournament I had placed here. It is an amazing rink with two sets…read moreof ice: the main rink, and a practice rink. Upstairs is the regular arena where the Irish play NCAA games. Downstairs is access to the practice area. Games are held on both but championship tourney games are traditionally held in the main. If you are looking for food and snacks, there is a snack shop near the bottom arena and also a place to rent skates and/or request regular skate maintenance...I.e. skate sharpening, blade falls off, etc. Parking is pay through an app during weekdays but was free on weekends. Not expensive though. I recommend eating at Rohr's which is connected to the Morris Inn if you have time. It's a much better option than other restaurants and extremely close. Easy walk on a nice day; if it is cold, park outside the bookstore and walk in. And, I mean, the campus bookstore, not the other one near all the random restaurants. Have fun! Beautiful campus!
