Notre Dame Stadium before the madness
    Richard P.

I'd always wanted to visit Notre Dame Stadium during one of my outreach events in South Bend. I'd never gotten the chance until: 1) A Garth Brooks concert - Amazing and 2) a Notre Dame game (also amazing). The basics: Of course, this is the home of the Fighting Irish football team. Established in 1930, Notre Dame Stadium was designed by the legendary coach Knute Rockne. Sadly, Rockne only enjoyed the stadium for a year before being killed in a plane crash. The stadium was expanded in 1997 and currently seats 80,795. Students are guaranteed tickets to every home game. Part of the stadium's legendary status lies in the fact that Notre Dame has more Heisman Trophy winners (7) and more national championships (11) than any other college team. In terms of accessibility, it's advised to contact the ticket office well in advance. They do have reserved seating areas for patrons utilizing wheelchairs/scooters or other mobility issues - seating is available to patrons and one companion. However, Notre Dame Stadium has a long history of selling out its games - so, pre-planning is absolutely vital. There are elevators to access the stadium upper level. I have had very few issues here and have experienced nothing but professionalism from the staff. The food? Hit and miss. It's not bad enough that I'm marking the stadium down, but it doesn't quite live up to the stadium's legendary status. Of course, you get basics - hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, soft drinks, water, and beer. You can get chicken tenders at some stands, french fries, pizza, and both hot and iced coffee. I actually found the iced coffee pretty awesome. This year, Notre Dame added an Impossible Burger, walking tacos, quesadillas, mac and cheese, some specialty nacho options, and a beloved pork tenderloin (all hail). Finally, there are some desserts/sweets: shamrock pretzels, hot chocolate, milkshakes, and frozen custard. You can't bring in your own food/drinks. Tailgating is allowed (I might even say encouraged). There's also lots of other activities on game days. It's a festive atmosphere. If you're new here, checking out Touchdown Jesus is an awesome experience.

Notre Dame has a beautiful stadium and an incredible game day experience filled with unique traditions and dedicated fans. The campus surrounding the stadium is beautiful and parking can be reserved in advance, but be aware that you may have to walk a mile or more to the game from on-campus parking lots. Even as someone that doesn't keep up with college sports, it was easy to get excited in this atmosphere. I enjoyed the view from our seat location (Lower Section 17). One specific critique I have was about the concessions experience at the game, which kept us in line for 30+ minutes waiting to get a below average pretzel with cheese and hot dog. While I know lines are expected at large events, the systems were particularly slow, leading to additional challenges and causing service to be delayed. Ultimately this kept us from seeing important portions of the game, which was pretty disappointing for my first experience.

Nice stadium, lots of history and full of fans. My team lost, but we were well treated by about 98% of the ND Fans. Those fans seated right around us were very friendly and represented the school well. The stadium has nice, roomy restrooms, and they are heated, so that made for a relief from the wind and cold in an uncrowded space, it was busy but not crowded and clean. Concessions doesn't accept cash, so be prepared.

This place is unreal. Visited for my first time my brother. Everyone is super friendly. Great experience. Go Irish!

Amazing venue and atmosphere. We'll continue the family tradition of visiting 4/5 times a year. Glad our donations are going to good use GO IRISH

    Notre Dame vs. Virginia Tech

I've never been to Notre Dame before and found myself in South Bend with my wife. She just happened to have a work event through the weekend so I found myself with free daytime hours to kill. It just so happened the Irish had a home game against Virginia Tech. Even more in my favor was when I checked Stub Hub 2 hours before game time and found I could score a ticket for $15 with all fees included. Next thing you know I find myself driving around U.N.D. trying to find a place to park that didn't break the bank. Being from Wisconsin and a frequent Packers game attendee I was in a bit of sticker shock that the going rate for parking was about $40 and you still had about a mile walk to the stadium. There is some street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods, just be prepared for a lengthy hike. The campus is absolutely stunning. The stadium is rich with history and I don't think there's really a bad seat in the house. Unlike my Lambeau Field, the bleacher seats here are made of plastic rather than aluminum. In theory this would help keep the butt just a little warmer on those cold game days. Concession prices are about on point with what you'd expect to pay at a sports venue. I felt the selection of food offerings at the concession stands was a little more limited than that of similar sports venues. I was in the stadium pretty early and on the opposite side of where my seat was. Rather than walk around the concourse I walked around the inner bowl. Almost every usher I passed on my way around gave me a Welcome to Notre Dame greeting. A great destination to enjoy a college game day. I could almost here the "Rudy" chants while roaming around the stadium.

Amazing venue. Attended my 1st Notre dame football game last Saturday! Loved every minute of the tradition and celebrations!!! We were able to listen to trumpets play, as well as the band. Got lucky with yummy street tacos in the quad which we got with chicken, fresh salsa, and cilantro. Not bad for $8. We were lucky with the fly over... Game was awesome! Highly recommend!!!

So Notre Dame Stadium is to College Football as Wrigley Field is to Major League Baseball! Both shrines where the faithful come to worship... both haunted by the ghosts of legends past! Designed in 1930 with the requirements of Knute Rockne in hand, the fan is close to the field. Not a bad seat in the house. The expansions of the late 90's and 2014 have simply enhanced the game day experience and taken nothing away from the stadiums historical significance. On a brisk October afternoon we Funkster three arrived early to tailgate late. This day our alma mater suffered a bone crushing defeat at the hands of the Fighting Irish. As we left the stadium we couldn't help but recall the words of legendary sports writer Grantland Rice: "Outlined against a blue-gray October sky, the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore their names are Death, Destruction, Pestilence, and Famine. But those are aliases. Their real names are: Stuhldreher, Crowley, Miller and Layden." With my usual close, will we return? You bet...With three yards and a cloud of dust!

Beautiful stadium! Everyone working at the game was extremely friendly and helpful from the tickets, concessions and ushers. I appreciate the bench style seating and would recommend purchasing a stadium cushion when you're there. Concessions had a good amount to chose from and the sodas/Powerade's were served with lids that didn't require a straw (think Starbucks). Bathroom facilities were super clean as well!

There is something absolutely magical about the football stadium at the University of Notre Dame. I have been to many sporting venues - both Yankee stadiums, Joe Lewis Arena, AT&T Stadium - and I don't think any of these stadiums match the austere atmosphere of Notre Dame Stadium. I very first experienced Notre Dame football in "the house that Rockne built" before its first major expansion in 1997. Still to this day, I can remember sitting on the slim wooden benches as the sun lit "Touchdown Jesus." Growing as a fan through the years, the dark years and the successful ones alike, this heritage is still felt inside Notre Dame stadium every Saturday during football stadium. From Lou Holtz to Brian Kelly's current reign as head coach, Notre Dame stadium remains a hallowed hall of tradition. In its current iteration, the Notre Dame stadium enjoys many major modern luxuries that some Notre Dame enthusiasts begrudgingly embrace. The stadium now welcomes just shy of 60,000 Irish fans to varying levels of comfort as there is now a high-end club level in the stadium (which I could never dream of affording.) The most noticeable change to the gameday experience is the massive videoboard and sound system that now looms over the football field. While I know traditionalists lament the addition of the videoboard as a possible era of gimmicky sponsor driven content awaits, the enhancement creates a much more enjoyable viewing experience. You now can see every play, and you can enjoy replays. (Side note: coming from the in-venue entertainment industry, I think Notre Dame still has some work to do developing the proper content to complement a traditional Irish football experience... but... that's a totally different topic.) I usually harshly judge a venue's concessions, but I think that Notre Dame does a fairly decent job. Their food services team Levy isn't my favorite, but I did enjoy my shamrock shaped pretzel and the Doritos walking taco. For a stadium the prices are moderate. Not cheap, but I've definitely encountered much more expensive (here's lookin' at you Yankee Stadium.) You don't have to be a Notre Dame fan to get caught up in the fervor of an Irish football gameday. The student section's passion, humor and dedication spreads quickly through the stadium. No matter your allegiance, you'll quickly find yourself clapping along to the Notre Dame Victory March.

If you love football no matter if you do or don't like ND, you need to go for the experience. With this being said I'm a huge ND football fan and loved every minute in and around the stadium. Tailgate is one of the best TD Jesus is always looking upon the game Bathrooms just remolded Only downside potentially is they don't serve beer at the stadium....so pending the game, with tv timeouts, u might be waiting a little while for that next cold one

The stadium is nice and well organized. Using parking and shuttle was a breeze and the staff was friendly and helpful. It just needs a roof given Indiana's downpours.

We came to South Bend for the Pitt vs Notre Dame football game on October 13th as Pitt fans. It wasn't much after the first quarter that we realized these "fans" and stadium are very much overrated...more so than the football team. Stadium: I did not know that they built around the original structure which takes away from the integrity of the stadium and what we thought we were going to see. Small bathrooms but stadium was very clean. Staff: Excellent staff! Helpful and knowledgeable. Very friendly. Food: Garbage stadium food. Notre Dame Fans: Quiet, rude, entitled and vulgar. Most of the fans were not friendly. With all the money that comes into the school I was surprised Of the amount of trashy people were actually in the stadium. I actually had to tell a woman to watch her mouth because of all the F bombs. We travel all over the ACC to watch Pitt play and this was the worst treatment by the home town fans. My advice is don't come with expectations, come to cheer for ND or you will be harassed, and eat well before the game.

First-Hand Experience: Info on my personal visit to this stadium - I wasn't here to visit MCS, I was here to visit the main campus of Notre Dame and their main stadium. But when my hosts (who have asked to be named K & F) mentioned the story of this place, I had to come and check it out. It's very impressive and so is the story. I love that the family made this happen, and I think they did a wonderful job on it. If you visit ND campus, like I did, then check this part out. I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. Also, on future travels, I plan to take new pix, and add more stadia! Watch this space! ***back to regular review*** Actually this stadium is named after a girl who tragically died recently when scaffolding from the John Hancock Center fell and killed her. It's a wonderful Softball arena, and my friend in South Bend showed me this field when she was telling me the sad story. I think it's wonderful that Notre Dame did this to remember Melissa, and even more wonderful that it turns out it was paid for by the family.

During the weekend, we caught the Tennessee State University vs Notre Dame football game (Go BIG BLUE!) - both teams played their hearts out and the marching bands put on an incredible halftime performance (AOB in the House!). The whole gameday atmosphere was electric from vendors on the streets to the alumni enjoying the many festivities! The Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the Grotto were highlights, though I'll admit I didn't fully understand their significance until taking a self-guided tour (which I recorded - so glad I did!). During my tour of the Basilica, I was fortunate enough to witness people gathering in the pews, awaiting the organist's performance. I stayed for the small concert and was completely moved - the music echoing through that sacred space was truly special. You can see the magnificent instrument from the main floor. The entire church interior and exterior with the spectacular dome is a beautiful sight before your eyes. Later I learned the Basilica dates back to 1871 with one of the largest collections of 19th-century French stained glass anywhere. The Grotto is actually a one-seventh replica of the famous one in Lourdes, France, built in 1896. It's a sacred place where visitors light candles for prayer and reflection - an important spiritual landmark that represents the university's Catholic heritage. I lit several candles while I was there, it was a very peaceful and spiritual experience. Some quick tips: *Be careful where you park or you'll get ticketed. There are parking fees too. *Don't miss their bookstore - it's amazing and has something for everyone. The associates in the bookstore were very helpful. *Book hotels early, especially during football season. *There are good grocery stores nearby for room snacks and plenty of restaurants downtown. *Ubers and Lyfts are plentiful if you don't rent a car. *Do a little homework before you arrive so you can plan your day, in other words check the website before you arrive on campus. Knowledge is power! *Wear comfortable shoes - you'll do tons of walking, especially with kids at football games! Absolutely worth visiting for the beautiful architecture, grounds, and rich history that unfolds as you explore and don't forget to check out Touch Down Jesus too! Notre Dame does a lot to show honor to the people who have been here before us. And we love coming here! On Game Day, before you enter the stadium, you can line up to watch the players, coaches and staff parade into the stadium led by the bagpipe players. I did that for the first time, up close and personal with my husband this year. What a trip!! We met a father and son who love tradition the way we do and had a great time chatting with them for a while. Once things got going, my husband was shaking hands and high-fiving with everyone within arm's reach. It doesn't take much to make us happy. Once inside the stadium, well, that's when the magic happens. There a feeling that you're among greatness. Go ahead as tease, but I love it here. And there is a lot to see too. There are some spots for a great view of Touchdown Jesus. Plenty of spots to take memorable photos together. It's been a sellout crowd for quite a while now and they seat somewhere over 80,000 fans at one time. Wow! Unfortunately, the seating part leaves something to be desired but that's part of the historic charm. At almost 85 years old, this stadium boasts lovely wooden bleacher seating for most of the seats. Thankfully, we don't sit for most of the game. We are usually up cheering on our team in one way or another. Hot cocoa is a necessary staple item when visiting this stadium. Don't skip it. A Game Day pin never hurt anyone either. ;-) This year, they replaced the grass with turf. Honestly, it's a sight to behold. Just beautiful. We have sat all around the stadium. From the very top row to right above the student section (craziest time ever!!) to the day we somehow procured seats in the alumni section and could literally feel the honor of being there to my very first game in the pouring rain soaked to my core just below the press box. There still were no classes or students on campus, but the buildings were open so we could get a peek inside. Notre Dame Law School is smack dab in the middle of the campus...easy reach from everything. The facilities - split between Eck Hall (mostly classrooms and faculty offices) and Biolchini Hall (mostly administrative offices and a few large classrooms, besides the four story Kresge Library) - are very nice...everything concerning the Law School is contained in these two interconnected buildings. This location happens to be on the marching band route on football days also, so it is a very popular site. The Law School facilities are nice and modern and they have tons of room. The law school used to be smooshed into Biolchini Hall...but the 2009 addition of Eck Hall pretty much doubled the space and gave everything more room. As you enter Eck Hall, you enter a three-story atrium connecting the first few floors with the classrooms and the main courtroom. The moot courtroom is laid out as a normal courtroom, but it also has a large sliding screen in front that shields the judges bench for straight classroom seating...nice convertible addition. This is where most of the guest speakers deliver the goods. As to the classrooms - many are laid out like traditional rectangles, others in the pie-wedge shape...all seem to have up-to-date technology keeping students plugged in. The lecture and seminar rooms were very nice and on the newish side. It is obvious the Law School is reinvesting in its property. The Kresge Law library in Biolchini Hall is superb. Carrels, large tables, easy seating, breakout rooms, and more are strewn about all four floors making for loads of options for the students. There are only enough carrels for 100 or so, so not everyone can have one assigned for the semester. Overall seating is over 550 though, so there is lots of space. With all the seating and study space, there is also a main reading room in the library. With soaring gothic windows and atrium space this library has a very open and spacious feeling. Lockers for the students are on the lower level in Biolchini Hall. The second floor connecting link between the two buildings houses a cafeteria for students and faculty. Notre Dame's Law School is well-ranked in the top-25 tier of schools and the faculty is well regarded. Being located less than two hours away from the major legal market of Chicago, the school has the benefit of job/internship opportunities for students. When we were out looking at law schools, we stopped by for a visit...even though we showed up unannounced they had someone in the Admissions Office who set us on a self-guided tour of the facilities...nice touch. It just showed a welcoming attitude, and a school that is not resting on its laurels. A good choice for a top-25 law school less than 2 hours from Chicago.

I remember freaking out when she was accepted because I know my father would have wanted her to attend. The acceptance letter arrived postmarked on his birthday. It was a message from heaven I couldn't ignore. Reality set in when I had to budget the expense for travel, tuition, room and board and more. My daughter worked in high school and she had to hold a part time job through college and full time in summers. She's definitely the product of a single parent household with no financial support from anyone else! As for campus Notre Dame Stadium is my favorite college football stadium. Since my daughter was a student I attended games. They changed the stadium a little adding seats. I'm partial to the historic stadium. I would watch Notre Dame play anywhere but being in this historic stadium is always spiritually moving. Another campus favorite is the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. It is a historic college landmark. I've been to the University of Notre Dame on many occasions over the years. I've also visited during every season of the year. I always visit the grotto when I tour the campus. Naturally I light a candle for my hearts desire at the time I visit. I remember my daughter's Senior Year I prayed for my daughter to get a job when she graduated! Education is the bottom line including the support the university provides to the students they accept. Whatever assistance you need to pass a required course is available to students. My daughter had a Tudor for her math class. On campus employment is available and definitely job placement after graduation. My daughter applied to have a job mentor in her senior year. Her mentor helped her dress and coached her regarding everything from resume writing to job interview skills including how to dress. I can't count all the blessings and the change in my life because my child has a degree from the University of Notre Dame. I'm definitely riding on her coattails. If you or your child are fortunate enough to get accepted by all means attend and take your studies seriously! You won't regret it.

The campus is beautiful and the math faculty and outreach is amazing! The involvement of the math…read moredepartment with the community and research is incredible.

On the surface it appears a very humbled college, but looks are deceiving, when it comes to a top notch education. This College has all the ingredients that inspire Greatness and Success. Located at 54515 State Road 933 N. in Notre Dame, IN 46556. This College prepares young Men and young Women for their future achievements in life. From the President, Father David Tyson, to Michael Griffin, Ph.D. the Vice President and Interim Provost, this College is surprisingly focused on two parallel missions, Your child's academic success, and the pursuit of excellence in Catholic education. I would highly recommend this College, whose tenets include the loyalty to our Military, Active and Veteran alike, and the building of foundational academic success of our youth. They offer several degree programs that are second to none, including degrees in Business, Computer Science, Pre-Medical Biology / Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Education, Pre-Law / Political Science, and Sports Management. We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the campus and our Son attend. Through the efforts of Dr. Griffin and everyone in the Financial Office. They went above and beyond in assisting us to have the ability fo our Son's tuition to this great and outstanding premier College. We are very Thankful for that opportunity.
