Reed Elementary is a truly special school…read more We discovered the school because of the Gómez & Gómez Dual Language program and the more we learned about Reed the more we liked it. The campus is well-maintained and beautiful (with a yard full of bluebonnets!) The student population is wonderfully diverse. The talented and caring staff and leadership are the best anyone could hope for. We moved and built a new home specifically to be in the zone for Reed. Our daughter's kindergarten experience was absolutely awesome, and the teachers made an incredibly good first impression on our entire family. We were all amazed by how quickly the kids picked up a second language and were able to jump right into conversation with others at the playground. We had unexpectedly opened up our daughter to a new world of cultural experiences, and more importantly, great friends. This early experience set the stage for many good things to follow. The other subjects are taught just as effectively as Language Arts. Math and Science are delivered in an interesting and fast-paced way that really clicks with our kid and others in her classes. "Specials" are a big highlight. The selection of books in the library, both English and Spanish, is great! The musical and dance opportunities in Performing Arts are amazing, from concerts throughout the school year to unique events like a special performance at the State Capital. The fundamentals that the kids are taught in Visual Arts provide an excellent foundation for future growth in drawing, painting, and understanding of color. The art projects our daughter brings home, and more importantly, creates completely on her own while AT home using her new and improving skills, are wildly impressive. Physical Education is also a favorite, with exposure to activities and sports that would have blown me away as a kid. And Running Club!! Everyone LOVES Running Club! After struggling with reading, our daughter was diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. The school provides special accommodations for these challenges. The amazing 504 team has been able to keep her learning along with her classmates and actually enjoying reading and writing, something that never happened for me as a kid. Our child's education is our top priority, and time and time again, we are convinced that we made the right choice with Reed Elementary.

There are no cliques and no bullying and when we have had issues we have raised them with the teachers and they have jumped on them to solve them immediately, and unlike other private schools there's no sense of entitlement from the parents or students. Also, because the school is so good at awarding scholarships not everyone is 'rich'! The school also has a great parent teacher association which offer weekly meet-ups and play dates as well as adult only events. Each class also has a WhatsApp chat group so parents can easily communicate with each other. If it sounds like one big happy family you'd be right, that's exactly what it feels like. In terms of academics my adhd child has thrived. Diagnosed at 4 we thought she would struggle but the school has been amazing at supporting her needs and accommodating her. They also offer many different seating types from a bouncy ball chair, to cushions on the floor and other such. It's very holistic and non political and offers many diverse ways of learning. They have a calming corner, encourage reading and emotional open communication as well many other ways of teaching emotional and academic intelligence. They teach in Spanish from day one and introduce Mandarin from 3rd grade, they also teach following the international Baccalaureate which is amazing. It teaches the children self confidence through weekly presentations and teaches them autonomy. Honestly this school is amazing and now it goes until 12th grade we are obsessed and so you will be too. But, sshh don't tell anyone about our secret slice of heaven.

He is growing up to be a well spoken, well thought, caring little human. I love that he is bilingual, but I really love his open minded views and his eagerness to learn. The teachers... the teachers have all been so amazing. They are loving, caring and really take each student's personalities and abilities into consideration as they grow from year to year. As I said, it's not the cheapest option and we do discuss yearly if we will be renewing his tuition-- and, with each year this answer comes easier and easier with an astounding "YES". We love the school, the community, the parents and look forward to many more years at Magellan!

But what makes this school so amazing is the staff, especially Ms. Kathie, I am so grateful to her for teaching my son numbers, writing, about animals, the weather but also how to stand up for himself and be a leader. How to be caring and considerate of others, and ask questions that help him figure out the answer. Can you imagine going to pick up your 5 year old son only to be told that they don't know where he is? The office is closed, and not as much as a PHONE CALL or an apology. This school cannot be trusted and every parent should know not to send your child here. The entire school gave off weird vibes from the beginning and I should have absolutely trusted my gut. Academically; You can check their curriculum if you request it. It's ok in comparison with most normal public schools but definitely not worthy for us, with the fact mentioned above. Lots of focus on the state mandate tests in order to improve scores to collect more money. Which is also why they have so many kids in each classroom. Our opinion is that the success of the kids at Harmony relies on the parents involvement as the homework are repetitive and are focused on a just a memorize game for the tests not learning. Our experience on first grade was that the kids aren't allowed to ask questions maybe with the fact of the overpopulated classroom. It's definitely not an example of a quality education in our eyes. Also, in two years never experienced the "Stem" program which was the reason we chose the school.

The cost of tuition is amazingly very low in comparison to the other private schools in the greater Austin area. The teachers are all amazing and have so much love and patience for all the students. They will be moving into their new permanent school building in July 2020 and I'm so excited to have both my kids attending in the fall!

Thoughts from a CPM graduate: I attended CPM from 1st grade…read morethrough 5th, I will graduate high school in 2026. To say I am grateful I went to Cedar Park Montessori would not be enough, this school impacted me in so many ways, it allowed me to embrace my creativity, ask questions, learn to share and pay attention and ultimately blossom into who I am now! I read once in a book, something along the lines of "If you're taught wrong in elementary school, you'll be trying to catch that train for the rest of your life." Through my experiences at other schools, they teach you very uniform, everyone is learning at the same speed and you are taught that raising your hand just makes the lesson longer, nobody likes a teachers pet or a goody two shoes. Whatever you do... Don't challenge popular beliefs, you are taught to follow the system. CPM is quite literally the opposite, you are encouraged to look at things differently and ask "why?" I used to question "why does this math problem even work?" And at CPM, I was greeted with an actual teacher who wanted me to understand not just pass. It's a smaller more personal learning environment where instead of memorizing you actually learn!!! And its at YOUR pace, not the kids next to you, when you first grasp something it's beautiful and at CPM that feeling was honored by teachers and staff, at CPM the reward isn't it in the candy it's in the understanding. I learned how to love learning at CPM. This is my greatest strong suit; being able to find joy in seeking knowledge. Thats my favorite takeaway. After CPM I went to a public middle school, it was a bit rocky adjusting, not only to the education system but because Montessori kids are so much more emotionally aware. But by having good roots and being taught morals young, I was able to choose my path, I didn't fall into the wrong group, and to this day I've never given into peer pressure, (I know very few teenagers can say that!) and not to toot my own horn, but, im aware that my maturity level is higher than many of my peers because of my early education. I can't thank my parents enough for choosing CPM, truly, one day, I wish to give my child the education and opportunities my parents gave me by enrolling me at Cedar Park Montessori.

How cool is that?! All the staff I've met have been positive and helpful. AME always has something happening, and it has a lot of great school spirit. I feel lucky that it is our neighborhood school!
