While the receptionist was courteous and professional, the chiropractor, Joe (or Joey), displayed a consistently dismissive, abrasive, and unprofessional demeanor. What should have been a straightforward healthcare experience instead became an exercise in frustration due to the apparent lack of transparency, accountability, and respect for patients. The most concerning issue was the manner in which contractual and financial obligations were presented. My older family member was rushed through paperwork without a thorough explanation of the terms, creating the impression that informed consent was secondary to obtaining a signature. Requests for copies of signed documents and receipts were met with resistance, something that should never occur in a reputable practice. Additionally, billing procedures, payment authorizations, and cancellation policies were not communicated with the level of clarity one would reasonably expect from a healthcare provider. When concerns were raised, meaningful resolution proved elusive. Patients deserve professionalism, transparency, and ethical business practices. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this office and strongly encourage prospective patients especially those paying out of pocket to carefully review all documentation and consider alternative providers before making a financial commitment. read more

I have received great care from all the doctors I have seen at all the locations I have gone to. They know how to zero in on your trouble spots. Dr. Joe was a complete asshole. The receptionist rang me up before I went back, which I appreciated because it avoided the usual package-selling pressure. He then skipped over 5-6 people, came out front, forced her to refund me, and made me fill out a form I had already completed five days earlier. He berated her in front of everyone, saying he "doesn't see people like that." She was nearly in tears from the way he spoke to her. I was refunded and left without being adjusted. Went to the Joint without an appointment because of pain in my neck, back and hips. Ares at the front desk dropped everything and got me into see Doctor Stokes immediately. The Dr. quickly adjusted my neck and SNAP! No more pain in my neck....aaaahh. Doctor Stokes then worked on my back and POP! No more pain in my back.....aaaaahh ....much better. I seldom take the time to write yelp reviews, but I feel everyone who's thinking of using this business needs to know how they operate before signing up. They use a business tactic known as "predatory cancellation". Meaning, they make it extremely difficult to cancel treatment, essentially forcing you to cancel services in person. They are not accommodating to any personal circumstance. My wife needed to cancel services because timing wise, we just couldn't make the sessions. We were happy to pay for the month we didn't use, no issues there. It was the fact that they held us on the phone for 20 min. telling us that it's their "policy" to only cancel in person. But again, there use of "policy" is just a code word for "predatory cancellation". Practically any other business in this day and age will happily leverage web based, app, or telephone methods to cancel appointments and services. Therefore, the only reason this business mandates in-person cancellation is to coerce you out of your money. Going into law soonish is a policy called "California Amends Automatic Renewal Law" or the FTC's "Click-to-Cancel". Once this does, businesses such as this one will be in direct violation of making it difficult to cancel services. Any previous patient who's run into this issue should keep this in mind. I am writing this review out of deep concern, not spite. My mother and I have been members of The Joint Chiropractic since 2022, originally in Fresno. My mother is deaf, highly educated (PhD/EdD), and a university professor. She has also suffered from chronic hip pain for over 20 years. When the Monterey location opened, we were excited to continue her care closer to home. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was deeply troubling and highlighted a serious lack of ADA-compliant communication and basic patient care. My mother is DEAF and therefore cannot communicate while face-down on a chiropractic table. In the past, she has typed her symptoms on her phone to the chiropractor, who would briefly glance at them, give no real feedback, instruct her to lie down, perform adjustments with no explanation, and send her home. There has been no meaningful two-way communication. At our most recent visit, she arrived in severe hip pain after throwing her hip out. I accompanied her specifically to help interpret and communicate. Instead of beginning with discussion or assessment, the chiropractor gestured for her to lie down without facing her. When we asked to explain her pain first, he became dismissive and berated her for not coming in regularly over the past two months...despite the fact that she had followed a doctor's order to pause chiropractic care after receiving a cortisone injection. He made dismissive comments about medical doctors "not knowing what they're talking about" and insisted she should be coming seven days a week, which is unrealistic for someone with a full teaching schedule. There was no collaborative discussion or respect for her situation. During the adjustment, my mother was in such intense pain that she began crying face-down on the table. The chiropractor did not stop, did not ask if she needed a break, did not adjust pressure, and did not offer even basic compassion (such as a tissue). Because she was face-down and deaf, she could not communicate that the pain was unbearable. This experience was heartbreaking to witness. As a child of a deaf adult, I have seen my mother repeatedly dismissed in medical settings simply because communication takes effort. This was another example of that pattern. I canceled my membership immediately. Patients...especially those with disabilities...deserve clear communication, dignity, and informed consent, not rushed, one-sided treatment. At minimum, providers should be willing to type, write, or face the patient when discussing care. I hope this location takes ADA accessibility, patient communication, and basic empathy seriously moving forward. read more

Terrible experience. It seemed like it was going worse and worse with every visit. . At first it was really good, they have doctors who knew what they doing, than doctor lest, than they had others. Every time i came for the adjustment -they had someone new. And not better! Front desk-super rude and unwelcoming. On top of everything, Joe told me that I need 300lb person to adjust my back! Really? It was rude. When i told my other doctor, he was surprised. The last chiropractor worked there everyday, and it seemed to me that she saved her energy to even do proper adjustments. Went in for shoulder/nerve pain that is radiating down my left arm. The "doctor" gave my lower back a couple of pops and other than use a vibrator he never touched my shoulder. No attempt at any alignment at all. He gave me a couple of exercises to do and then suggested I see my GP for drugs and maybe an injection. What the hell???? This was a horrible first experience at a chiropractor. I've had a couple of people tell me not to see this specific "doctor" at the Del Monte facility and they were absolutely correct. All talk and zero action. If I could give him zero stars I would. Do better. read more

Just had another incredible session with Dr. Joe! I'm not sure what any of these negative comments below are - the front desk staff is friendly and professional. I have HOWEVER seen clients be VERY rude. This is a walk in clinic. For $89/month you get 4 visits which is literally $22 per visit! The trade is sometimes, you have to wait. Also, getting "one" adjustment isn't going to help you -- you see the biggest change in pain and mobility with REGULAR visits -- hence, them offering and recommending weekly visits --THEY ARE LITERALLY TRYING TO HELP YOU by recommending weekly care‼ Plus, I've been to Chiros that charge $200/visit and Dr. Joe is better then any of them.... so, he is 1000% worth waiting a few extra minutes for! So grateful for the care he and his staff provide. Also, to the lady who commented below about him spending money at Disney -- it's alarming that this bothers you and clearly shows you don't understand how "business" works. People pay you money as a business or employee... then you go spend the money as you please... your hyper fixation on what this man does with his family lands as a bit creepy and I'll leave it at that. read more

The Joint is a walk-in clinic, so there's always the possibility of a wait... especially if you insist on seeing only Dr. Joe -- a superstar chiropractor among chiropractors. Absolutely worth it, however. $89/month gets you 4 visits per month. FOUR for $89!! That's a steal. Use them or you lose them, but since chiropractics is of tremendous benefit with regular treatment, it's easy to make the commitment to visit weekly. Not only am I sleeping better and with less pain in my lower-back and hips, but I'm an inch taller now that my frame is in proper alignment! I'm very pleased with my improved posture as well. To the patients who've forgotten how to properly conduct themselves grown adults: If you "don't have time" to wait, feel free to waste your money on mediocre service elsewhere -- free up the wait time at The Joint for people like me who need and greatly appreciate Dr. Joe's time and expertise. read more

Despite my physical visits to cancel my membership, which I rarely use, I continue to be charged on my credit card. This recurring issue has caused me significant inconvenience, and I am now compelled to make another visit to resolve this matter. I signed up because the front desk staff (who are friendly, by the way) repeatedly told me they would be open on Saturdays and to please give them a chance and not cancel my membership. After months of waiting and not using my membership, I decided to cancel it as I can see he will never be open on Saturdays. To the owner, I WANT YOU TO STOP CHARGING ME FOR A MEMBERSHIP I DO NOT WANT! False advertising led me to sign up (open seven days a week, not valid). I feel compelled to share my negative experience with this service. Despite my efforts to cancel in person and over the phone, I am still being charged. This is not only frustrating but also a clear indication of subpar service. I strongly advise against using this service. read more

Very disappointed with this location. I have seen 3 different doctors at this location at various times when I visit, none of them seem to really know what they're doing. They seem to be rather nervous, unseasoned, not confident and lacking proper technique. Adjustments were either incomplete therefore she just strained the muscles in my neck. And in one case the Dr did not do an adjustment at all. He said after palpitating he concluded that an adjustment was not unnecessary. I was very perplexed! While I was waiting he said the same thing to the patient before me. Very strange and odd. We are pretty much paying for an adjustment. Please get some decent doctors in here who know how to perform an adjustment. read more

Awful experience. I don't know why I came in and sold myself short. I was in pain and looking for a quick and cheap chiropractor. They tell you it's only $30 for an assessment, consultation and adjustment. It look me longer to fill out the forms than my "assessment/consultation." I didn't get one. The doctor just had me lie down and she "adjusted me." She was very weak and I didn't feel or notice a difference. It was maybe less than 5 minutes. She "prescribed" me to come back twice a week and handed it to the receptionist. The receptionist tells me it's $80. I'm like what? It's $30. She proceeds to explain because the doctor prescribed this plan, I "have to pay it," which is complete BS and false advertising. I want thrilled with my poor adjustment and was not wanting to come back and now to be strong armed into some plan. I pushed back and she seemed annoyed and probably gets commission and made me tell her I was not pleased with the service and did not want or plan to come back. I felt ridiculous arguing with her and had like 5 people listening to this very awkward conversation. She said "okay" and that was a valid reason that I didn't have to pay. She seemed not very professional and had I know this was their trick or scam, I wouldn't bother to come here. Anyway, I do not recommend this place. Go to a proper chiropractor. read more

I want to preface this by saying that this was my first time experiencing the joint. I had gone in for the $29 first-time patient special to see if I would like having chiropractic work done on me. When I walked in, the woman at the reception was extremely nice and welcoming. She took my driver's license to get my basic information down, to which she put in my middle name as my last name, and I unfortunately didn't catch it because I was told that she got the correct information down. I then was taken back to see Dr. Stokes, to which things started out great. She was super kind and was great at listening, but then something shifted. She started to talk down to me and talk to me as if I didn't understand basic human functions. She was never outright rude, but it definitely felt like I was being talked down to. Then, after the consultation and adjustment, she set out a plan and brought me up to the front. The plan was for 4 weeks, to which I said that I probably can commit to that due to my school and work schedule. Once I said that, everyone's tone shifted, and I felt extremely pressured into purchasing a plan. They kept telling me that I had to purchase a plan because I went in for the $29 new patient appointment, and with that, I was required to purchase a plan even though it was never advertised that way, and no one in the office told me about that. So, I ended up spending over $200 on an appointment that was only supposed to be $29, and I felt pressured the entire time. They honestly started to make me feel bad about myself and that fact that I "clearly wasn't willing to put the time into my body". My recommendation: please do not go here as you might end up like me, stuck spending $200 on 6 sessions that I do not have the intention of using. And honestly if I could get a refund I would love to find out how. read more

I was apprehensive when I found out it was a "chain" but my daughter had thrown out her back and I wanted her to be seen right away so we went since they were open on weekends. I am so glad we did!
