We weren't greeted by staff, nor were they friendly, but to be honest, that seemed to be the norm at every place we stopped in the area so perhaps it is just part of the local culture. This store has lots of clothes, bags and jewelry and it definitely reflects the style of the area. They also had lots of kitschy items and great souvenirs like signs and toys. We found an adorable lady sasquatch plushie here for our dog that had a male counterpart and even came in three different size options. Was it overpriced? Yes. Did we get it for her anyway? Yes. This is a good stop to browse and grab a memento or perhaps even an outfit if you want to fit in with the locals!

From calicos to batiks, and an impressive array of solids, I was able to find exactly what a needed during a recent visit to attend the first annual Winthrop Quilt Roundup. They also have a sweet selection of bundled pre-cut fabrics, and lots of gift items and cute baby and toddler gear. The owner is a true gem, there to answer questions and help with fabric selection. This has always been a must-visit on my Winthrop trips, and it will continue to be for as long as I'm still sewing!

Well, that's the feeling I got when I visited Winthrop Mountain Sports during the recent Winthrop Quilt Roundup. I had never visited before, but it was a stop on the event passport so I popped in. Wow, what a GREAT place! First of all, they have way more than backpacking equipment. From stylish outdoorsy clothes to all sorts of hats, gloves, shoes, water bottles, and other must-have PNW-esque accessories, I could easily have outfitted myself for everything from a day hike up the Methow to an expedition down the PCT. They are also dog-friendly, allowing my friend's dog to wander the store with us (and even sneaking him a treat from behind the counter). Even if you're not outdoorsy, there's something you need in this shop. I ended up buying some road trip snacks for the journey home.

It was the best rental gear I have ever rented. Service was quick, pricing was good and I was out the door in about 10 minutes. Anyway, this climbing shop has everything you need to climb in the area, and nothing you don't. There is a pretty neat sport climbing area nearby, and they have photocopies of all the relevant info from the book. So you can just buy what you need, and not a big, pricey book full of routes you may not care about.

We were greeted upon entering and the staff was both helpful and laid-back. I especially loved the sale table out front, and even spotted a few deals inside as well. While I didn't end up purchasing anything - because I wasn't in need of anything - I did notice their prices were reasonable, and they carried a great variety of brands, including a few I hadn't seen before. Also, a huge shoutout to the staff for letting me use the restroom - such a kind and appreciated gesture when you're out and about in a remote area. If you're in need of outdoor gear, clothing, or trail essentials, chances are this shop will have what you're looking for. It's definitely worth a stop if you're passing through Mazama or prepping for an adventure in the North Cascades!

As I was walking out, I overheard the owner tell another customer that they were closing the store after 40 years of business. Glad I was able to stop by!
