Conveniently Located…read more I stopped into this Irish Pub on a day when it was just pouring rain. It was right across the parking lot from my hotel. I was seated right away and ordered a happy hour glass of red wine. Since it was an Irish Pub, I had to try their Irish Potato Soup. The soup came out just hot enough and was topped with chives, bacon and cheese. It was a very good soup and packed with potato chunks. I ordered the McCarthy's Pub Steak, a 10 oz. strip loin, which was topped with rosemary compound butter, served with a side of heavenly mashed potatoes and green beans. The steak was delightful, and although slightly overcooked, it was still a very good steak. The Green beans were fresh and firm and cooked perfectly, and were a great accompaniment to the steak. On their beer menu, I noticed they carried a Canadian beer from Unibroue Brassery in Quebec, which I thought was really cool. Overall, great food, service and happy hour specials and of course Canadian Craft Beer too !

She brought our drinks out and took our food order as soon as we were ready. We ordered the cheesesteak eggrolls, a buffalo chicken cheesesteak, french onion soup, and boneless wings with their hottest sauce. After the order was in for a few mins, the waitress came out to tell us they were out of eggrolls. I was bummed because that's what I was most looking forward to. The other food came out in about 15 mins. My boyfriend loved the french onion soup and he said his boneless wings were actually very spicy. He has a high spicy tolerance and these truly had some heat. My buffalo chicken cheesesteak reminded me of home (Philly) a little. The roll was a bit too soft for my preference, but the chopped chicken and cooper sharp cheese were perfect. The ambiance was of your typical sports bar, but it was decorated well and they had a good bit of TVs available.

The Sunday morning crowd was chill and primarily there to take in a soccer match. The staff were all friendly laid back, leaving us to hang out in a little booth with only necessary interruptions. In terms of food, it was well done pub food. Not fancy, but well executed. We ordered the breakfast sandwich without meat (no sausage or bacon), and it was nicely done. Not over the top, but nicely prepared. The overall flavor profile was designed the the expectation of breakfast sausage or bacon, so the non-meat version of the sandwich could have used a bit of extra flavor. That's on us. The fish and chips were well executed with crisp breading, tender fish, and flavorful condiments. It really felt like a solid pub experience. They even offered us some malt vinegar to go with the meal. In terms of beer, everything was well done. The beer was served in appropriate glassware at an appropriate temperature, and everything was flavorful and in good condition. A nice low key pint of Guinness was exactly the right accent to the overall vibe. Overall, this was a lovely little pub in a nice little part of town. It wasn't a huge space, but there was plenty of room to show up for a fun Sunday brunch without facing an enormous crowd.

It was the best place I ate on my weeklong trip in August, and it was once again the best place I ate on my ski trip this past weekend. A lot of pubs have burgers, fries, a few sandwiches, that sort of thing. It gets repetitive. O'Donnell's has that, but really knocks it out of the park with their main courses. You get the pub atmosphere, and good hearty food, but so much more variety than most places, and it's all delicious. Perhaps most impressive of all, they rotate in a variety of specials, and those are really good too. Their kitchen staff is versatile and skilled. The first time I went, I had a grouper special, with rice and vegetables, all cooked really nicely, not dry at all, and well flavored. Dessert was chocolate Guiness cake with Bailey's frosting, which was as good as it sounds. A few days later, I got the blackened chicken alfredo. Although not quite as gobsmackingly impressive as what I had the first time, it was still a really solid pasta dish. Five months later, I was back, and went with another special, the Berkshire pork chop, with homemade mashed potatoes as the side. Both were really good, but the mashed potatoes - best I've had in years. And carrot cake for dessert - not quite as unique as the Guiness cake, but another really good dessert. It also has a great atmosphere to dine in and really good service. Allison was working at least the first and third times I was there, still remembered me five months later, and was just as good at taking a phone-in order this weekend as the in-person ones earlier. They have their regulars who go there for the food and service, but also make newcomers welcome. Excellent staff. People around town recognize their food too. On Saturday, they were closing a bit early due to the snow, so I took my takeout up to Yough River Brewing (which welcomes outside food). At one point a man asked if my food was from O'Donnell's, and I said that it is, and a few minutes later I'm talking with his friend, the mayor, who loves O'Donnell's as well. And no wonder! This would be on my regular rotation if I lived nearby.

Not sure why I expected anything different when we went there today. Today's experience: Our server took our order in a very reasonable timeframe, but we waited close to 50 minutes for our food to arrive. And this was on a weekday; they were busy but not packed. No one came by to provide any kind of explanation. When the food finally arrived, my fries were cold and we had to ask twice for refills on our beverages. We had to go to the bar to get utensils and napkins because the server never brought them. As we were leaving, a couple at another table had just gotten their food and had the same problem-- they needed utensils and napkins. This isn't the first time we've experienced very slow service at Patrick's Pub. I don't know what the issue is, but I'm sorry to say I probably won't ever go back to Patrick's for a meal.

Beyond that it was a nightmare. The service was sooooo sloooooow. It took too long for the waitress to come take our food orders after we placed a drink order. People in service should know to pick up the pace when they see small children in a party. However, even if it had been just adults, there is no excuse to keep us waiting for ten minutes. And then the food took absolutely forever, at least half an hour. During the wait, I counted only four parties totaling 14 people in the entire place. It was so frustrating. When the food arrived, half of it was wrong. My daughter ordered a kid's cheeseburger; she received a burger with no cheese. I ordered a grilled chicken salad with caesar dressing on the side; I received a caesar salad with the dressing mixed in. I didn't send it back--no time to wait! The salad was merely lettuce, dressing, and "chicken." The meat was rubbery and stale-tasting. The pretzel bites were horrid; sort of ligh-textured and vaguely sweet, but saturated with oil, they tasted more like toasted chunks of brioche bread than real soft pretzels. The "beer cheese" was mercifully flavorless. My wife's fish sandwich was bland but okay. The french fries were delicious. See, I closed on a positive note.

I switched things up a bit though, wanting to be sure to give the place an opportunity to put its best food forward. The wife got the previously dry Guinness Burger and I asked the Manager on Duty for a recommendation.....what do you guys do best? His reply, as I'd heard from others, was the Reuben. The Guiness Burger was better. It was more along the lines of a juicy, home-grilled burger. The Guinness BBQ sauce should be allowed to spill from burger to the plate so you can dip the fries. The wife enjoyed the meal. The Reuben was very good, http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/B0aSdOQJxHwa-VxA3hzYgA?select=kjYdbYkherAVT1UCyu01Og. I make Reubens at home exactly the way I like them. Mine have more meat and sauerkraut on them. At $8.99, this improvement is suggested. Still, the marble rye was grilled perfectly, the cheese, Thousand Island dressing, kraut and corned beef were nicely mingled and the sandwich was plenty moist and hot when it arrived. I'd come back on a Wednesday for the Reuben as it appears to be the special at $5.99. That's a good deal. Plenty of people were also noshing on the AYCE crab legs. Not sure on the price, but at least 3 large tables thought they were reasonable. Weather permitted us to choose the outdoor deck, which is a very nice alternative. There is a bar and a half-dozen tables. Service appeared to be very attentive the night we were there. It's difficult to personally attest to the service, given a bit of extra attention. In summary, the Reuben and improved Guinness burger warrant pulling the place up at least a half-star, and the owner's sincere effort to win over his customers is worth a little too. This place does the bar/pub thing pretty good and I wouldn't cross it off my list.
