The Hostess, an older female with longish greying hair, huffed then showed us to a table. She at least took us to an outside table as we requested. She never identified herself. And honestly we felt as if we were bothering her. Ok, enough of that. Now the positive. Our server was Taylor. This young man was awesome. He was upbeat and personable. Very pleasant and wanted to communicate, not just serve us. My wife and I asked for water, and ordered an appetizer of their Mac and Cheese balls. They were awesome. Hot, fresh, stuffed with pasta and warm flavorful cheese. Next we ordered cocktails. My wife ordered a Painkiller. Me an Old Fashion. Taylor recommended I try their version, New Fashion. Made with their mix of a house Bourbon. Man it was good. And the Painkiller? Let's just saw I held my wife hand, and guided her to our vehicle. For our main courses, my wife had the chicken and sausage pasta. I had the Bison Ribeye. Both we would order again without hesitation. The pasta dish was huge. With two breasts and numerous pieces of sausage. Over Fettuccini style pasta, with a lite and flavorful red sauce. It tasted fresh, and rich. She could only eat about a third of it. The rest came home. I ordered my Bison medium rare. The Chef hit it perfectly. Beautiful red meat in the center, nice and warm. So much flavor, and tender. With it I had the potato of the day. They were mashed with the skin. Full of butter, milk, and seasoned. In addition I had a side of creamed spinach. Very rich and deep. The cream tasted similar to a cheese sauce. So good. I live here in SC and my nephew was visiting here during his college break from AZ. I decided to take him for a top-down drive in the Jeep up north to see a little of the low country, country-style. On the way we saw the sign for BJs and thought "why not", let's check it out. A little off the beaten path but we found it. The building had an open sign so we popped in, not realizing we opened the door to a small general store. When we asked the nice lady behind the counter about the lounge, she said "give me just a moment and come on over to the door next over." Well heck, it was early on a hot weekday but we were not disappointed. Shirley greeted us at her and her husband's lounge with cold drinks, snacks, and friendly conversation. What a treat! It reminded me of why I love South Carolina. Their lounge has a wonderful old jukebox, sports memorabilia, and an assortment of things to drink, of course. It was a pleasant surprise and we were so glad to have found the place. Me and my nephew won't forget the warm-hearted conversation with Shirley and I guarantee we'll be back. If you're in the area, don't shy away from the short detour off the main drag. It will be worth it. It's all about the people.
