However, the refurbishment was drastic, gone is all the jingoism and threatening attitude and you can now wait for a train in comfort (there is even a display showing trains arrival and departure times), have breakfast and a decent lunch or dinner. My pie was OK, of the mass catering variety and for this reason I can't really give it more stars, but there is a good atmosphere and a good selection of drinks, so altogether a good place. It shouldn't be too difficult to improve catering standards and for this place to become one of the best pubs around.

They serve a good selection of traditional pub grub - I recall their beer battered fish and chips being particularly good - and have a fantastic beer garden which is perfect for a sunny day. The interior is deliberately quite shabby chic and there are no dingy corners in this pub! Since The Honeypot closed a few years ago The Red Lion is the only watering hole for a few miles and it does an excellent job of keeping thirsty locals and visitors supplied. You'll find a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and a good solid traditional English pub.

Prices are of course cheap, so if it's the wrong side of pay day this is the place to go. From Thursday nights onwards it can get really busy, and on occasion there have been some unsavoury types in there that we would rather have avoided. There is a decked/seated area outside for smokers/sun worshippers too. The pub is right next to Northwood Hills Station too, so you can't miss it!
