I have…read moreasked the director, assistant director, operations manager, front desk staff, and teachers to be transparent with me regardless if it's positive or negative. My child was 18 months when I enrolled her and My child loved going to school. Unfortunately that only lasted 2 months and the lead teacher had to leave due to personal reasons and was not planning on returning. The school was already training a new teacher to be lead but did not inform any of the parents about it. When I asked when the former teacher would return they told me she would be back in a couple of weeks even when they knew she was not returning. the teacher told me herself she was not coming back and she said the owner knew about it, but lied regardless. Once the new lead teacher started, she was taking many days off because of personal reasons. She later informed me she was not working physically at the school and was helping remotely. The school never informed me of this. In fact my child started behaving out of character. she said she did not want to go to school and would cry at the hand off in the front. When I inquired about this, They made me believe it was my child's fault when in reality they knew the issues they were having. When I had my parent teacher conference with the new lead, she disclosed many many things to me. She mentioned that she has been out of the classroom for sometime and that my child was not the only one crying during hand off. She mentioned that many parents complained about kids coming home with diaper rashes and not being fed properly. She told me it was so bad that she was going to call licensing herself. She Also gave me recommendations to another school because she told me I should take my child out. They were combining two classrooms together of children from 18-24+ months because they were understaffed. My child was sent home with a dirty diaper multiple times. When I asked for before and after pictures of my child's lunch I was told by the owner and director that I should just assume that she doesn't eat in school. I told her this is not helpful especially when my child is in the 6% in her weight. They said they provide chef prepared meals but I have shared pictures of the food that's provided. Their grilled cheese is just two pieces of cold bread with cold cheese, their fruit is canned and served multiple days in a row along with the canned green beans. Their chicken nuggets are frozen. I've even been told by an ex employee that they freeze the fruit and if they don't have enough time to thaw it out then the kids are eating frozen fruits. I was told by a different ex employee that they recycle the food too. I expressed the concern of not being able to speak to my childs teacher on a daily basis to get updates and that it's concerning how secretive they are about things. The teachers actually seem scared to tell parents anything. Yes they once had an amazing reputation which is why I chose TLVS, but that has all gone down hill once they moved locations. I know of many parents who have taken their children out of the school. They claim that all teachers are certified but not all of them are Montessori certified. They also have violations on the Texas Department of health and safety. Check them out. Today when I was dropping her off to class I saw one of her teachers being rough with a child and that child was crying. This is not the Montessori way of dealing with an upset child. You don't just squeeze their hand tightly and pull them across the room to sit by themselves. I could tell the teacher was overwhelmed and the teacher did not have an adequate assistant teacher in there to help. The person who was in there was a front desk employee who was in there just to have a body in there for ratio reasons but was not actually helping. So glad I'm sending her to another school and she is finally happy again!

My son was 2 years old in a class full of children his age and had been since he started. Once my son switched classes things changed. I was getting phone calls constantly. About a week before I stopped sending him he came home with a scratch on his lip. When I asked what happened I never received an answer and haven't till this day. My son was potty training and would go through underwear a lot. I ended up sending pull ups and letting them know to put him in one if he ran out of underwear or at nap. I really tried to be understanding because his teachers were doing the best they could. One day after my husband picked him up, I noticed my son had on a diaper. He hadn't worn a diaper since he was 18 months. When I inquired about this I never received an answer. At that point I felt like I was being ignored. This place started off good but they have entirely too many toddlers in one class. I would walk in to get my son and see stuff everywhere! My husband even stated he saw a pair of scissors left on a table. It was too overstimulating and in my opinion, not structured. Again, this is in no way to come at his teachers. They did their very best. Front office staff was okay but some of them could have done better in how they spoke to parents and the teachers. Ms. Johnson was probably the best person on that staff and had a beautiful personality and spirit! All in all, there are other good quality daycares/schools in the area. We left the public school system after the 4th grade and witnessed an immediate change in our son. I thought Montessori was a laissez-faire approach to learning but that is not the case at Riverbend. The curriculum is structured in terms of content but flexible with how each student learns. The classrooms are mixed grade levels but the students operate at their own pace. Some are more advanced in math whereas others are not. The teachers are very much in tune with the students' academic, emotional and social developments. Learning is very tactile, utilizing tools (beads, boards, etc.) to reinforce understanding, not just memorizing. Homework is assigned with a purpose; incorrect math problems must be corrected to ensure mastery of the topics. Books are read and literary analyses are performed to understand setting, plot, theme and characters. Laptops are used for research but very much controlled and monitored. Field trips are common in order to reinforce their curriculum. Creativity is another strong point of this school. An annual play is performed where all students have a role. Creative writing is a special event that involves students writing personalized short stories and presenting them to parents. Music and art are taught weekly and involve learning instruments such as ukeleles and kalimbas as well as recreation of famous masterpieces (Van Gogh, Vermeer, Warhol, etc.). The culmination of all the hard work is on display at their end-of-year Art Festival where students showcase their art and perform musical ensembles. The teachers are nothing short of incredible; they are vested and believe in their students. They spend extra time with students and manage all field trips, including overnight ones. They encourage natural curiosity; champion building responsibility and accountability through hard work and perseverance; allow students to learn from their mistakes; and encourage them to advocate for themselves. After two years with this amazing school, we see a much more confident and mature child who is ready to take on new challenges. My only regret with Riverbend is not enrolling sooner. If you are looking for a school that will develop your child your child's love of learning, critical thinking skills and sense of responsibility, this is the school. If you want a babysitter, please look elsewhere.

She loved her teachers and made a lot of great friends during her time there. One of the things we appreciated most was how much her teachers genuinely cared about her. We never felt like she was just another child in the classroom. We were also really happy with her development and how much she learned. She hit all of her developmental milestones, and by the time she finished Pre-K, she was more than ready for kindergarten, both academically and socially. Mrs. Nadia, the director, is great. She communicates well with parents, is responsive when you have questions, and genuinely seems to care about the kids and the school. After four years, you really get to know a school, and we're very happy we chose Kensington for our daughter. We would definitely recommend it to other families.
