I've been a long time visitor to the Golden Nugget Lake Charles, usually making at least two trips…read morea year. I was somewhat disappointed this year. The positives: The rooms are always clean. The staff is always friendly. (I've read other reviews complaining of the rudeness of the front desk staff, but I've never experienced anything but professionalism.). The Casino Credit staff is amazing and always so friendly and accommodating. Same with the Casino Hosts; always very nice and professional. There are several good restaurants to choose from and, although they're touristy joints, the food is always good and the waiters are always first-rate. The negatives: Only half of the elevators were working at any one time and those that were working were in bad shape and dirty. And the swimming pool bar staff around the pool absolutely sucks...and they always have. Always. I've never been to that particular bar where the staff was anywhere near professional. Also, they were out of several premium liquor options and none of the frozen drink machines were working. Additionally, when entering the pool area, I asked for an extra towel. I was told that it's "policy" that each person is allowed only one pool towel. I let the attendant know that showed sh*tty service, especially for someone that was spending about $10k in their hotel and casino over two days. Not sure that I'll go back to the Golden Nugget now that the Horseshoe is opened up.

However, yesterday when I went to the Home Depot across the street to pick up a few things, I saw a really sad-looking Chuck E. Cheese, devoid of all but two cars but with signage indicating that they are still open, and are selling large pizzas or small wings for $5 each. I have not had Chuck E. Cheese since I was a child in grade school, so I decided that this COVID-19 environment is a good time to order a takeout pizza from them. After all, they probably appreciate the business right now. There is a number on the door to place an order, and it was promptly answered. Large pizzas were indeed $5 but toppings are an additional $2 each. Pepsi products are served at Chuck E. Cheese but I did not order a drink. I ordered a large pizza with Canadian Bacon and the employee on the line said to come into the building in about 10 minutes. Ten minutes have passed and I entered the restaurant and the lady knew what I ordered and it was ready. They practiced social distancing inside, with a Plexiglass barrier installed between the cashier and customer. After paying, another employee came out from the kitchen with my pizza and I was ready to go. The pizza came in a rather generic box, that reads "Life Tastes Better With Pizza," with an illustration of a pizza shaped like the State of Texas. I didn't really understand it, since we are about 30 miles inside Louisiana, but I presume that Chuck E. Cheese sourced whatever boxes are available at the time. In any case, it kept the pizza well for me to take home. At home, the pizza stayed hot and fresh, and was clearly something I expect kids to enjoy: A no-frills pizza with a good crust, a lot of mozzarella cheese, and ample amount of toppings. Perhaps a little on the bland side for my more sophisticated palate for pizza, but fortunately I had some crushed red pepper from a prior pizza run that I used which made a difference. Overall, as we are in this COVID-19 business environment, it was a good time for me to try out a place I normally would not patronize. The pizza gave me positive childhood memories, and I would definitely encourage others to support this and similar business during these difficult times.
