This is a great resource for landscaping material that is not easy to find anywhere else in town…read more I use them when I did a lot of landscaping a few years ago, and found they had a good supply of outdoor material, especially small, medium and large rocks for inexpensive edging around areas. They also have mulch, sand, gravel and all kinds of supplies for making ponds. The people there are very knowledgeable and the prices are reasonable on the raw materials, and sometimes better than some of the larger stores like Lowes and Menards. For the small garden stuff, they have a very nice gift store as well, although sometimes I found their selection somewhat limited.

Expectations Exceeded!…read more Working with Brian Downs of Downs Construction has been an exceptional experience from start to finish. We first reached out to Brian in November for a major addition to our home--a new bedroom, walk-in closet, expanded entryway, and a covered porch. From the initial planning stages through groundbreaking in March, the unexpected tornado in May, and project completion in June, Brian delivered on every promise he made. In today's world, that kind of reliability is rare. Even when issues arose--as they inevitably do with any major construction--Brian was the first to raise them, often before we even noticed. Every challenge was met with a solution, and every step was handled with transparency, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to quality. We're absolutely thrilled with the final result and already looking forward to working with him again on future projects. It's clear Brian takes pride in his work, and it shows in every detail. We recommend Downs Construction without hesitation. If you want a contractor who communicates, cares, and delivers--Brian is the one to call.

I call Brian at down's construction and they got right on it. They fixed The problems caused by the other two contractors. I really appreciate their attention to detail and thoroughness. They also stayed in constant contact with us and let us know when they were arriving. At one point they had pull the flooring up because the previous contractor had put a hole in the water line. Downs construction did such a good job that I hired them for several other jobs. They went above and beyond and I can't recommend them enough. But…read morewhen he gets into the job & finds out the real problem, He acts like his original estimate is correct & doesn't accept responsibility for his misdiagnosis. If I'd known the real problem, I would've paid a little extra to have it fixed correctly. But Mike charged me for the original quote & didn't explain that he'd made a mistake. So we still have the exact same leak we had before Mike charged us $3,430 for a leak proof basement (an airtight seal was promised in our original estimate. He said there'd be an apocalypse or the world would end before water leaked into the basement after his fix), & he claims now that we should've gotten a new door "like he suggested". He really said that we would eventually need to change our door. He didn't say, after getting into the problem, that the door was actually the cause of the leak, because our front door was beginning to rot, from the original owners trying to hide the leak in our basement. He just acted like that was a separate problem. Once the leak came back (in the same exact places & the same intensity), Mike wants to claim ignorance ("oh I said once I got under the porch that you need to change your door, but you didn't want to"). Total BS. He's a scammer!!!!I And I've given him weeks to actually be an honest person & fix the problem. So now we have to sue him to get our money back & report him to the BBB with proof of the real fix to our leak & his promises in our original quote. Don't fall his nice guy act!

I am an 89 year old woman with Leukemia who needed an additional handrail from my living room to my…read morebasement for safety. I searched YELP for a handyman service who could help me. I contacted Swegles Quality Handyman Service through YELP for a quote. A Matt Swegle came out July 9th, 2026 to measure and check the job out. I told Mr. Swegle that Barry County Lumber, the local lumber and hardware store, had the railing I wanted for $90 plus wall fasteners. At no time during my interactions with Mr. Swegle did I say I wanted the 'cheapest railing available.' I said that I wanted a "matching railing with the one I already had installed." Mr. Swegle quoted $365.00 for the job. I had no other quotes for the railing and installation, but I told Mr. Swegle that I considered that quote very high for the work. After Mr. Swegle's employee finished the work, I was surprised and upset to discover an unfinished dowel rod railing installed which did not match the other railing at all. I contacted Mr. Swegle and asked when they were coming to varnish the handrail and finish the job. Mr. Swegle became very angry and proceeded to scream at me over the phone that "You asked for the cheapest!" At no time did I say the words "the cheapest" in regards to the railing. I had asked for "a matching railing" After telling Mr. Swegle this, I was told it would be an additional $50-$100 to return to finish the job and varnish the railing.
