Peppers, located in the town centre, is a bit of a local gem. Family owned, its run and promoted…read morewith the kind of care people who are passionate about the food they serve can do. The menu is manily based upon seasonal, local produce, and so will change as the seasons and availabilty changes. I believe the menu actually rotates once per month, which is an achievement itself in the days of mass produced food. Its not your standard restaurant, and probably isnt suitable for children, but if you like venison, game such as pheasant, rabbit and so on, then its well worth your time. Both lunch menus and evening menus are available, and the food is very reasonably priced. Peppers also caters for parties and group bookings and will offer menus to accomodate larger parties. eating here helped my firm secure a big contract once as the clients were very impressed with the food.the food itself is superlative, the drinks accompany the meals well, and the service is pretty much spot on. I cant recommend this place highly enough. Not an everyday kind of place, but certainly a place to visit at least once if you're in the area

John and Linda have built up a solid reputation amongst the tweed jacketed, ponytailed CAMRA brigade but don't let that detract. An ever changing list of ales with two constants. Over a 100 plus Belgian beers on offers as well as National award winning ciders and perrys. They are trying to get the kitchens up and running again which can only be a good thing. The only slight down side of this place is that to enter you have to walk the gauntlet of the filthy smokers who gather outside the only door and spread their smog. They should be encouraged by the staff not to stand at the door

They serve a decent range of drinks - because its a weatherspoons chain pub theres nothing much out of the ordinary here, but the range of popular drinks is extensive. As previously stated, it does get very busy at weekends but theres usually enough staff on duty to ensure that it doesnt take too long to get served. The food is ok - standard pub fare which is fairly priced and adequate. Its not haute cuisine, of course, but it is above average. Its never taken long for the food to get to my table if I've eaten here. One word of warning - this is the home of the unemployed and unemployable, probably due to the price of beer. If you like people watching then thats fine, but its probably not the best place to take elderly relatives to for a quiet drink!

Annoying habit of still displaying beers names when they have gone off (instead of turning namecard around). When asked why I was told it was for advertising. Curry here on curry night is very cheap but let's face it it has to be as it is awful, plastic rubbish. Find most of the staff here a bit dense and lacking in simple manners.

The fish was nice but the batter was too thick. On another visit I had a steak and onion sandwich which was nice except for the gristle. For three toasties and a drink each it came to just over a tenner which I though was very good.
