Dear reader,…read more Charleston City Market is exactly the sort of place that makes casual browsing turn into a full-fledged expedition. It is full of jewelry, handmade gifts, local art, and all manner of treasures, and so many visitors seem to love the same thing: the sheer variety and the chance to find something that actually feels special rather than mass-produced. That absolutely tracked for us. The Market itself has been a Charleston staple for over 200 years, and it still feels lively, local, and full of character. What really stood out for me was an artist who went by Andy, who had a collection of pop art vinyl records that was genuinely fantastic. Using mixed media, he created pieces featuring different singers, musicians, and bands on old vinyl records, which felt both clever and beautifully done. I chose an amazing Mary J. Blige piece that was also hand-painted, and I was absolutely thrilled with it. The value of your dollar was VERY worth getting one (or more)! Cash only! Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable wander and a very good place to find art, gifts, and a few things you did not know you needed. I would happily go back.

It was way bigger than we thought, and it's a good place to immerse yourself in Charleston's history. One can also take horse carriages around the market to get a Charleston tour. When I contacted the company for a return and to re-order the correct item, I was told this (copied and pasted directly from their email to me): Before you go ahead with a return, we want to make sure you're aware of the significant costs and logistics involved. Since our items are made and shipped from our manufacturing partners overseas, returning them means international shipping and customs processing, and unfortunately, those fees add up quickly. Return costs typically include: $25 to $55 USD in transport charges $28 to $72 USD in customs clearance fees These can vary depending on the weight of your parcel, but in many cases, they end up being more than the refund itself. I was under the impression that I was doing business with a US company...however, their goods are outsourced overseas. BEWARE this company!! Date of experience: 04 August 2025

My friend and I were walking down Broad Street in downtown Charleston on Sunday morning (playing…read moretourist in the hometown we've lived now for almost 30 years), and we happened upon The Boutique. From the exterior, it appeared to be a cute shop that may house potential presents for the upcoming holidays. We stopped in, and we were NOT pleasantly surprised. Although there were some items that could be purchased as gifts, the majority of them were overpriced and irrelevant for people of our demographic (young, modern, not extremely wealthy professionals). If you're looking for high end, porcelain figurines, fine bone China, or linens, you might find something here that you would like. But make sure you wear your best and have dressed the part, because as we stumbled into the store, we quickly realized we were not the clientele the store employees were looking for. We were hardly greeted by any of the women working and our every move was closely monitored as we walked through the store. Quite frankly, it was odd, and this is the primary the purpose of the current review. As we walked out of the store, my friend said, "Have a good day!" and the woman literally said, "Okay" with literally zero inflection or even fake southern charm. Those were essentially the only words spoken to us the entire time we were there (~7 minutes). I won't be returning, but I do hope others have better luck. The store has potential should the demeanors of employees improve.
