My daughter and I stopped by P&P because I saw the business on Instagram. I'm so happy that we…read morestopped by. I loved the vibe, you felt welcomed. Everyone greeted us with a smile and hello. I bought two plants and potters. The selection was great and the value of items was good. I love that they support other black owned businesses as well. I was in my HAPPY place. Next time I would like to check out the cafe. Cherron the owner is so nice. They sell so much more than plants like candles, incense, shirts, jewelry, stickers, etc. from black owned vendors. I will definitely be back!

They're both super knowledgeable and helpful every time I see them, whether at their shop or an event around Philly. I've been to their plant shop at least twice now and have purchased five plants from them. On my most recent visit, I picked up a Swiss Cheese Plant and a Crispy Wave Fern Plant. They have a decent selection of plants, along with other trinkets, merch, and plant care items. One of my favorite bigger plants I've purchased is the Pink Princess Philodendron. I've wanted this plant since the pandemic, and when I saw on social media that they had it, I traveled to their location to grab it! During the pandemic, this plant was in high demand and overpriced everywhere else, but at Plant & People, I felt the price for its size was reasonable. She's been with me for several months now and is thriving! I'm still learning how to be a plant mom and need help with repotting a few of my plants--which they also offer as a service. I enjoy coming here and grabbing a plant or two every time.

My assessment would be that it's…read morenot the best place to buy processed items because they tend to be niche organic labels that are expensive, but the produce, dry goods, etc., that I mentioned are actually priced really well. During the height of the #TrumpTakeEgg crisis, I found eggs here that were a really reasonable price. They've also got really good bread. A lot of big boxes stores don't have any decent bread. There's a couple other reasons I shop here: As a non-driver, I actually find the coop is a great price option for me. It's true that if I had a car and wanted to drive way out of town to a big box store I could find things cheaper, but for me it's never made sense to invest all that money in car upkeep, parking, gas, insurance, etc. The coop is important to me because I really believe in the idea of being able to live without a car, and in that way they're doing way better than a lot of bodegas are capable of. Also, if you're complaining about prices, go look at how much your taxes subsidize those big boxes! That's an institutional problem! I also like that the coop is unionized. It's not perfect, but I started shopping here after Trader Joe's joined Whole Foods and Starbucks in trying to get the NLRB declared unconstitutional. It makes me feel happy knowing I'm not putting my money to that. And I also feel like over time, you get to know the workers, and they know you and are friendlier, and in a much deeper and more sincere way than at other stores. It is true that there can be grumpiness too. I much prefer the real conversations I have with workers who actually recognize me than the weird, forced banter I used to experience at Trader Joe's, that felt like something the worker was probably doing because a manager was looking over their shoulder.

I really want to support this business but they do everything in the power to make it difficult…read more On most days you'll have to dodge aggressive pan handlers to enter or exit the store and despite numerous complaints the management refuses to do anything about it. When you finally make it into the store you'll find very few, if any, local products and the produce is consistently substandard. You're better off getting your groceries from the Pandemic Pantry and if you need last minute ingredients for a meal its best to walk the extra few blocks to Fu-Wah.

I am currently living in San Francisco so San Franciscans in Philly can think of Mom's Organic Market akin to Rainbow Grocery in SF. Mom's has a great variety of local and organic produce. Hard to find items that you would find in a good well stocked natural food store or cooperative like Mom's is. Staff is friendly. The layout of the store is a labyrinth that can be confusing like a rubik's cube too far gone yet with a little patience and perhaps asking security, staff, or one of the regulars they can help you get your learning curve to navigate the store of organic natural food product heaven. Within Mom's is the Naked Lunch vegan restaurant which I will return to have a bite there as it looks interesting. I am a proud graduate of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, CO where I received the William S. Burroughs scholarship. I did my thesis on William S. Burroughs and William S. Burroughs wrote Naked Lunch aka the cut up novel for which this restaurant is named. Since I was in Philly two weeks I was mixing up dining out at the wonderful vegan foodie scene in Philly along with cooking at my homestay. For cooking at my homestay at Mom's I picked up the following: Soymilk Local and organic blueberries Bananas Garnet jewel sweet potatoes Limes Avocados Organic granny smith apples Red cabbage Ginger root Sweet yellow onion I am pretty sure all the produce was organic. Mom's has been family owned and operated since 1987. Great bulk bin items. Great produce. In a word, great. Mom's sets the bar high for a natural food store. They are like the special forces of natural food stores which is quite alright in my book. Each day Mom's states customers prevent 9,233 grocery bags from being used. Mom's has banned over 250 ingredients from our products storewide. Mom's has chosen to print their receipts on BPA and BPS free paper products for the safety of it's community and the environment. In a word...Yes!
