Whoops, almost forgot to write a review for this place. We had lunch here on Tuesday after our…read moreintended destination around the corner ended up being closed. While the adjacent restaurant was much busier, this one seemed inviting, so we settled into an outdoor table (it definitely had filled up by the time we left). In hindsight, we would have sat indoors because the temperature seemed fine in there and it was really cute and homey. We ordered beers (natch), their version of a quinoa bowl (forgot the Flemish for it!) and a "chicken burger", which actually turned out to be a fried chicken sandwich. Both dishes were excellent. The grain bowl was like what you'd find in the States but better: loaded with veggies and a killer sauce. And who knew Belgians could make such a good fried chicken!? It was well-cooked and had the same sauce as the bowl, which was tasty. Of course it came with frites, but at that point we had had so many fries that we could barely differentiate. Service was extremely friendly and efficient. We ended up having more of an "American" meal here, but that was fine by us since we had OD'ed on the native stuff. Four happy stars, and we'd recommend this Zeppos to anyone wanting a good lunch in Antwerp.

My first meal in Antwerp was probably my favorite in all of Belgium…read more Kapitein Zeppos is kind of off the beaten path, but you'll know when you get there. They have a giant outdoor seating area across from the restaurant. It was a little too hot for me, so I decided to sit inside. I ordered a beer (a Jack's Precious IPA that really hit the spot), and then ordered some food. I went with the vol au vent, and holy crap, it was amazing. If you're not familiar with the dish, it's a puff pastry drowning in mushroom gravy with shredded chicken and ever-so-tiny meatballs. And if that's not enough, it came with a generous side of fries (with mayonnaise for dipping, of course). Rich doesn't even begin to describe it. The textures, the flavors, everything was perfect. Probably the heartiest thing I've ever eaten. Stop on by!

Korsakov is all the rage nowadays. The bar attracts a big part of the Antwerpian art scene and…read moreeverybody who want to be seen with them. Still it's not a neo-snobbish façade as you might think. The customers are relaxed and friendly. Korsakov has a complete floor for smokers; just take the spiral staircase and take your drink with you. During weekends, don't worry that the bar will close early, unless you mean early in the morning. Since this bar is a very popular place, it might happen that it's completely crammed. Just go to one of the other nice pubs on the square. They are fun too and they have a long history of coolness.

They have a chill outdoor sitting for this times of warmth, and some good snacks. I am yet to try the proper food but it sounds good. Although I'm becoming a regular here, there are things I really dislike (and they're the reason I didn't give 4 stars). I don't know what the deal is with service in this city, but a lot of the times I find myself in nice, chill places with horrible service. In this particular case, there are a couple members of the staff (not all of them) who have the wrong attitude: Not making eye contact, responding to your questions in a mean way, or even a freaking smile. People often forget it's their job. And no matter what you do for a living, do it right. No wonder why "tipping" is not a thing in Antwerp. But still, I'll be a regular in this place. I can't let this ruin my experience anymore.

There used to be a time when every 'volks café' in Antwerpen had his organ. Café Beveren is different they kept their organ and for 50 cent, a little orchestra will play your favorite classics and even some crappy hits like the Ketchup song. Coffeelabs! What you're doing is truly awesome... Am so inspired by this place!…read more A great, feel good place which is coffee shop / working space. There is what looks like a dedicated start up floor, so kinda incubator style office space for those kicking off their new venture, which looks reserved however if you continue up to the second floor, check out the greatwide open space which has some great seating areas and spacious pallet furniture which is all cushioned and looks unbelievably cosy. There is a book shelf which has all sorts of inspiration reads. Dotted around the walls are inspiration quotes from leaders before us, with free wifi and plenty of plug in space it really is the perfect place for any free lance type of worker to come along and get plenty done. Only downside is the wifi is from a hotspot by a local Belgium provider, it didn't like my foreign status plus limits you to just one device only, need to log off on my laptop, to use wifi on mobile / vice versa The coffee shop has all sorts of great delights, light fresh food including, salads, quiches, wraps as well as some cakes/muffin treats... Am excited by their homemade lemonade offerings! I had a flat white which is the best I've had in Antwerp so far, a shy or two away from my hot Dublin spots but all the same, a fine cup of coffee and presented in a glass making it feel all that bit more special, in fact, some would say, showing off the Flat White in all it's glory! The roof terrace alone would make you wanna come here... Plenty of space out here, from tables to benches to pallet furniture lounges, there is a space for everyone here. It's buzzing with people of all sorts, those getting some work done, some friends meeting for a catch up... the random tourist like myself.. haha! If I was a local, this would be a regular spot for me! So glad I found you :-)

Because I couldn't find a comfortable spot to sit while I was reading (I switched places 3 times) Coffeelabs loses a star from me. But I will definitely go back when I need to work on a project next with my computer, just not to lounge with a book and a cup of coffee.
