What a disservice to a person on a fixed income. To add to this mistreatment, the young lady who was apparently in training in the receptionist position rolled her eyes when she thought the moment was right. Seriously? It would indicate that this is acceptable behavior according to the professional norms of the office, if the new person feels comfortable with this expression of her feelings. Where is the dignity for the elderly? Even the audiologist sounded like a kindergarten teacher. There is a way to present technical information without sounding like the play dough is our next activity.

So I went with the Oticon hearing aids in the end.

All appointments save for the first one were scheduled months in advance. Despite this, they've unilaterally cancelled appointments and expected me to follow up. The cherry on top was when I showed up for my latest appointment (scheduled 2 months in advance). I had to provide my insurance (despite checking in online and paying in advance), then grabbed a seat. Two patients came in after me and grabbed a seat. Both were called back to be seen in less than 10m, yet I was still waiting. Finally after 20-25m I walked up to the front desk and asked what the deal was. The aloof receptionist asked my name (again) and then went to check. After a couple of mins she came back and proceeded to tell me I would have to wait yet ANOTHER 30 mins to even be taken back. That's a total of 50m-1hr before even being taken back to the patient room, let alone being seen. Since I have this thing called a job I can't exactly spend all day in a doctor's office on a whim. Rather than apologize, the receptionist asked if I wanted to cancel. I said yes. Cancel. She then said "you can call us to reschedule" (maybe she was nicer about it but this is how I remember it) and I said frankly this isn't my fault, I shouldn't have to spend time calling up, battling an auto attendant, waiting on hold to rectify a problem I didn't cause. I asked the receptionist to tell the PA I was there to see that they could contact ME if they wanted to reschedule. The receptionist said "I'll see what I can do" like having a PA make a phone call was akin to storming the beaches of Normandy or something. I had enough and left. I immediately called my doctor to get a referral to a different sleep specialist, as I suspect it's more likely the Rockies will win the World Series than it will be for the PA to call me. Bye Felicia. Unfortunate that I need to change doctors at this point, but this was completely avoidable. A simple apology, explanation, or any kind of empathy would have made the difference. We tried to take him to the VA here, but they could not do it for several days. I googled Hearing Centers near me, and was so lucky and blessed to find Ellen Ruth Stevens in Broomfield. We called and the sweet receptionist said she would fit us in and to come by right then. Ellen saw my father and worked for probably 30 minutes to make the hearing aid fit.
