Still, I followed a…read morefriend's recommendation to come down for a jazz open mic on a Friday night and I almost missed it. Once inside you are in pub heaven with a traditional looking lounge at the front, you almost walk into the bands as you enter the pub but there's plenty of seating to enjoy the music from a safe distance too. You pass through another section before the place opens up to the main bar at the back. It has quite a continental feel to it, and I can't believe I didn't immediately spot the massive vats at the back - I was too busy admiring the statues on the bar. And it's difficult not to be tempted by the selection of beers when in a brewery and I didn't regret my choice of Achtung. They also serve food and while the main menu is limited to sausage rolls and pies you can also order pizza or sushi which is delivered directly to your table by local takeaways. I'll definitely be back, a real gem.

Their Early Doors IPA was always likely to be my favourite, but I also enjoyed Dark Matter, 2 O'clock Ordinary and their Weissbier called Achtung! Good brewery. We stayed long enough to warrant some food. The burgers looked delicious, but we decided to go for 3 snacks for a tenner. This meant we could both have a snack of our choice and also share some chips. I enjoyed the luxury fish fingers! (No Captain Birdseye here!)

After some time guzzling pitchers of Pimms Cup in the garden, we made our way inside for the show. Hats off to these performers. Maybe I was just wasted, but I felt like I was having a fever dream at the Moulin Rouge - in the best way possible. Get in here. This place rocks.

For the Friday evening Cabaret you have to book ahead which only cost £5 up to the last 2 weeks before which is when it goes up to £8 and you get to watch some weird and wonderful cabaret acts during the course of the evening. As far as the acts were concerned it was a bit hit and miss and I was expecting a few more. We had a hula hooper and a contortionist which was insane to watch!! An aerial hoop act which was impressive but quite short, a juggler who probably didn't need to be there and the finale .... Rayguns Look Real Enough who were a comedy music mashup duo who were fabulous!! Highlight of the evening! As a while though I think the acts were a but hit and miss and unfortunately the compere wasn't going down too well either!! Oh well!! But the evening was incredibly fun and once they cleared away the stage it turned into a dance floor and the DJ played an array of hits from 50's through to today with a lot of emphasis on 80's and 90's hits which were great to sing and dance along to. Before the show started we did have a table so we could eat food and there was your usual selection of burgers and salads etc. I went for the veggie falafel burger and to be honest it was extremely bland and needed a hell of a lot more tzatiki and condiments to improve it's flavour! It's great that I was subjected to the usual fried vegetable burger and there was a mushroom risotto on the menu but the burger definitely needed more flavour. It was a bit more like mushed falafel and falafel needs to be a little more grainy I think!! The chips were good though, hand cut, crispy edges and soft in the middle - mmm!! As for drinks they do have a selection of ales on tap, some local, a porter and a stout that were exciting some and all the other usual things a pub can offer. Price wise I think it was pretty reasonable. All in all we did have a great evening and I probably would go again. The place is new so it is probably still getting it's sea legs a little but do pop down for an alternative evening of circus acts and then fun music to dance the night away to - we stayed so late it was a night bus home!! Always a good sign!! Xyz

Third, the staff- from the time we entered to the time we left- were all friendly. We ate in the upstairs dining room, which has lovely high ceilings and a large room with dark wood tables and typical pub seating. The kitchen is upstairs and we got a table next to it but surprisingly and pleasantly discovered later we didn't smell like food. Now the drink. My husband and I split two bottles of a bottle cider, a peach flavour I think, and it was quite good. Lots of drinking options including cocktails. Now the food: As a veghead, I was happy at the variety of pizza, main and tapas options. The food prices are a bit high, especially for the tapas, so I ordered the least expensive veg main, the broad bean purée and broccoli rabe flatbread. My husband got a spicy pizza with nduja sausage. My dish arrived fairly quickly and I was confused at first; I thought it was the wrong order. It comes as a soup with stewed rabe and two pieces of crispy bread like pappadam. This is not how I envisioned flatbread: food atop a slice of dough like pizza. The waiter was so concerned and offered to take it back but I hate food waste so I plowed in. It was actually good- not fantastic- with a very thick purée and the sautéed rabe blending well. There is a lot of rabe and the constant chewing can get a bit tiresome but overall I liked the dish although I think it's better on a cold night as it's served piping hot. The flatbread pieces are bland. My husband said his pizza was good but much spicier than he expected. I nibbled on the pizza crusts and liked the chewy dough. One of the best experiences of the night was the waiter TBH. His attention to customer service- asking how our food was, if we wanted anything else, etc- was as if we were back in the US. I felt I had entered a country warp! SO rare in London to have that good service!

It's a pretty standard pub, but not overly modernized. The iron-legged tables, bench seats, and chairs have been around for a while. The front room is quite spacious, and never crowded, since it's on a back street behind the mall that few people know about. The back room has some longer tables, a big screen TV for sport, and a fruit machine, if I recall correctly. There are a couple of outdoor seats for when the weather's warm. Standard beers on tap for this end of town, which means some Fuller's ales. They've got occasional quiz nights on Wednesday. I went once and found the quiz regulars formidable opponents, but very friendly and accomodating for newcomers. And my team didn't come last! EDIT: This pub has undergone a renovation: some new paint, some tidying up of the decor, a new kitchen in the back by the looks of things. There are a few fancier lagers on tap. On first glance it seems to have lost a bit of character, but it'll take some time to grow into itself I think.
