Hartford Auto Insurance tried to extort more money from me, which shocked me because I have always respected Hartford. Hartford Insurance sent me my new policy via email. I opened the policy to discover that my monthly premiums increased from $51.00 per month to $72.00 per month. I called Hartford to find out the reason for the increase but the representative did not give me a valid reason. I reminded her that I am a safe driver that does not get into accidents, so I my premiums should not increase another $20.00. I instructed the representative to cancel my policy on September 1, 2023 because Hartford was not loyal or sympathetic to my excellent driving record. The following week I called Hartford to be reinstated prior to September 1, 2023 because I wanted more time to search for better quotes from other auto insurance companies. Representative Ashley told me that it would not be a problem to reinstate me. Today on 8/21/2023, I called Hartford to confirm that my policy had been reinstated. The representative did see the conversation between Ashley and me, but she could not confirm that I had been reinstated. The representative placed me on hold to obtain clarity. The representative did not return, but Jeff from the renter's insurance department wanted to talk to me about getting a new quote. I asked Jeff, "Why would I need a new quote when I am already insured with Hartford?" Jeff told me that because I cancelled my insurance, I would have to get a new quote. I told Jeff that my policy is scheduled to be cancelled on September 1, 2023 so that is not logical. I told Jeff that I have a good driving history and that Ashley had reinstated me, but Jeff would not work with me. Jeff also said that I cannot be reinstated for various reasons. I then asked Jeff to explain the reasons, but Jeff told me that he could not. I then said to Jeff, "I cannot be reinstated but you cannot tell me the reasons." I then asked, "How can you tell me that I cannot be reinstated, but cannot tell me the reason?" I then told Jeff that I was going to file a complaint but did not care so I asked Jeff to transfer me to a supervisor. Jeff or a supervisor never returned to me so I called the Hartford again to request to speak to a supervisor. I was connected to Christopher who is a supervisor. Christopher also told me that I would have to get a new quote because I cancelled my policy. I told Christopher that my policy was scheduled to be cancelled on September 1, 2023, so it is not cancelled yet and that Ashley had reinstated me last week. Christopher then claimed that he did not see the conversation between Ashley and me. I also told Christopher that Hartford wanted me to obtain a quote to increase my premiums to make more money. I told Christopher that I was going to file a complaint, but he was not concerned or sympathetic. I called Hartford at 4:30 pm to see what the quote would be. I told Tawana what my problem was and I told her that I should not have to get another quote when I am still on the policy. I also told Tawana that I am sure that Hartford wants me to get a quote to increase my premiums. I was 100 percent correct because Tawana gave me a much higher quote. I was complaining about Hartford increasing my premium $20.00, but Tawana increased my monthly premium to $126.00 per month. I told Tawana, "I knew it". "Harford are scammers" and then I ended the conversation. I called Hartford one last time around 7:00 pm. Latosha informed me that she had read all of my messages today and that nothing will change and that Hartford has guidelines not to reinstate their drivers without a new quote. I told Latosha that is not fair and why is that concrete. I said that anything can be amended, especially for the great driving record that I have. Latosha told me that I cannot be reinstated. I asked Latosha to give me a reason that I cannot be reinstated? Latosha said that she did not know." I then asked, "How can you tell me that I cannot be reinstated, but cannot tell me the reason?" I then ended the phone call because I concluded that Hartford wanted to increase my premiums further, so any excuse was going to be valid to do so. I have been with Hartford for many years so I am really hurt and disappointed that they would use excuses to increase my premiums. read more

On Mar. 2, 2013, I was accused by someone of running into his truck, Albuquerque, NM. I never had an accident with him at any time. Nevertheless, he followed me home to my parsonage and both of us called police at same time. Neither of us were ticketed. There was not a shred of evidence that we had an accident (e.g. no paint transfer, no matching up of his damaged area with anything on my Bronco, etc.), or that it was even possible for my Bronco to have caused the claimed accident. He claimed that he was driving on the sidewalk on my right side when I 'ran into him'. From the police, he found out who my insurer is, Hartford, and filed a claim with it. Hartford turned him down, so he filed with his insurance company (USAA). Unknown to me until March, 2015, when my wife tried to insure another car via another insurer when she was told that I had an accident on my driving record. That's because his claim went into secret arbitration, Hartford put up a feeble defense, and the arbitrator found in favor of him. According to Hartford, it then paid his claim. Insurance companies love to lose these cases because they can then "justify" making you pay much higher premiums for fictional accidents - 5+ times what they paid out for the claim - over years. So our driving insurance premiums went much higher - a cost we can little afford. Hartford (and any other insurance co. I can go to) is now charging us for an accident that either never occurred or did occur but did not involve me. When I first found out, I emailed Hartford several times, but got no response. I then complained to NM insurance regulators (NM OSI), they told me I had no right to know anything about the arbitration or even have been informed about it taking place or how it was decided or who the arbitrators were, nor any right to know whether the money Hartford paid to the accuser actually paid for and was limited to the damage he falsely claimed I did. According to NM OSI, it was all "work product" of the arbitrators. I then complained to NM AG and asked for a full investigation, they refused to even investigate, even though I proved to them that Hartford perjured itself with its OSI response and lied to me, and it appeared I was set up as a religious hate crime (I am clergy), and possible elder abuse issues (ironically, we obtained our Hartford insurance thru AARP). Did you know that there is no Federal agency you can complain to about insurance companies? If you have a beef with any other business, you can complain Federally to several agencies (FTC, CFPB, Postal Inspector, FBI, ICC, etc.), plus your state and the state of that business. I am stuck paying for this sickening injustice because I must be able to drive to survive (Disabled Veteran) to buy food, see doctors, etc. Auto insurance companies are clearly secret societies which use the police power of the state as enforcers for their protection rackets. read more

I made the mistake of actually reading the policy, and you know, it's true what they say about not watching the sausage being made. My mouth dropped open as I read the "Customer Privacy Notice" and stayed open for minutes after I finished. I'm a computer security professional, and privacy is a big deal in my field. Apparently it's not a big deal at Hartford: 1. "...we may share Personal Financial Information with our affiliates to [market our products and services] to you WITHOUT PROVIDING YOU WITH AN OPTION TO PREVENT THESE DISCLOSURES." (my capitalization) Seriously? No. This is crap. No. 2. We, and third parties we partner with may track pages you visit through the use of cookies, pixel tagging and other technologies AND CURRENTLY DO NOT PROCESS OR COMPLY WITH ANY WEB BROWSER'S "DO NOT TRACK" SIGNAL THAT INDICATES A REQUEST TO DISABLE ONLINE TRACKING OF INDIVIDUAL USERS WHO VISIT OUR WEBSITES..." Wow. Just wow. They admit they refuse to comply with users' "do not track" requests. This is shady, consumer-hostile behavior and shame, shame on them. 3. "We will not sell or share your Personal Financial Information with anyone for purposes unrelated to our business functions without offering you the opportunity to opt-out or opt-in as required by law." What this mundane-sounding boilerplate actually says is that since the federal government and most states have no "opt-in" law, they will share our personal information with anyone they please and get away with it because of a clause buried in fine print somewhere that says we can opt-out-- they know almost nobody reads that stuff and understand what it means. No, jackasses, if you want to violate our privacy, you damned well get our explicit opt-in permission! You NOT sharing is the default behavior, not the other way around. I'm disappointed that an otherwise reputable company is so openly hostile to its customer's privacy interests, and I strongly encourage Hartford to rethink how it handles the information we have entrusted to it. I made the mistake of waiting till the day before expiration to look into this, so I don't have time to find a better provider by tomorrow, but next year I will take the time. Privacy matters! same issue here. month goes by I get a letter staten that my coverage was reduced to 30k/12k from original coverage of 250,000 and 100,000. And they charged me additional $256 for the issue. They claim they we missing "proof of primary residence"??? Why would I get insurance then?? They had all of my information on file. I called instantly and they checked the information they were missing and then claimed they had it on file all along??? Then why did they reduce my coverage!!. Spoke to the manager Machell Kanpton and she told me it would take 24 to 48 hours to update. Mean while the I have the policy declarations page covering only 30k/12k. I called them for 3 days straight to make sure its updated. They would always find excuses, I would ask to be transfered to the manager and the person would just transfer me back to the 800 number to start over, 2nd day, called and asked to speak to the manager "offcourse she is not picking up" so I leave a voicemail with all of the information and asking for a call back with an update " geuss what 2 days later still no calll!". 3rd day I call them again to get the updated declaration policy to the original quotes of 250k/100k. Now the employees are telling me they can not send me the new updated policy declaration page because there is $7 missing, they are applying to the account. So since the $7 is missing my house is only covered for 30/10k instead of 250/100k. So I was told now to wait another 24 hours to have the $7 applied back to my account inorder to get the coverage. {This place is a scam and joke. terrible customer service. What if that letter they mailed out staten that they are missing some information was lost in the process as it always happens. My house would not be covered then!!!. They never called or emailed me anything. This place will find any way to back out of the policy and find ways to not pay up or even reduce the policy. SCAM. STAY AWAY. I AM REPORTING THEM TO BBB. have had auto insurance with the Hartford for years, under the AARP program. I recently had an incident where a large dog ran at my auto and jumped into the front fender damaging the fender and driver's door. Hartford was treating the incident as an accident claim, with a $1,000 deductible and loss of diminishing deductible. I learned that this should be a comprehensive claim, where I had only a $100 deductible. I eventually got the claim changed. Both my wife and I have been claim-free for well over 20 years. After what I consider very poor communication and service, and difficulty getting them to change the claim info on my account which continued to show $1,000 deductible, I finally got the claim settled. After becoming frustrated with a person, I was forwarded to at Hartford, she claimed I was being rude, by just insisting on a straight answer to a question. When I went to pick up my vehicle, I had to upfront over $2,000 at the body shop, which has since been refunded by Hartford. As a retired senior and AARP member the deductible of $1,000 in stead of $100, would have been a problem for us. However, the big shock was when I recently received my renewal for my auto insurance, which had an increase of over 44% per annuml increase. So, after I called out Hartford on trying to charge me 10 times what I should be paying for the dog incident, they increase my premium by over 44%. Here are some interesting facts about The Hartford, Recent annual profit of $535 mil. Based on approx. 250 working days, this is a profit of $2.1 mil, per day. Owners' equity in Hartford is estimated at over $13 Billion. CEO earns estimated $16 mil per annum. This is an average of $307,692 every single week. Another interesting fact is that Hartford made campaign donations to over 400 elected officials of both parties, as well as millions to their association groups, who lobby and donate to the political parties. My experience with The Hartford Insurance has been nothing short of awful, and I strongly urge anyone considering them to look elsewhere. I originally went with them because they were recommended by AARP, but that recommendation turned out to be a huge mistake. Every time I had to call their 800/888 number, I was stuck on hold for 30 minutes or longer. When I finally did reach someone, it was a different representative every time--no consistency, no accountability, and no real help. Their app was completely unreliable. It told me what a great driver I was and even showed awards I supposedly earned, but despite all that, they raised my rates simply because my wife "didn't show up" on the app--even though she was already included in the policy. I was told on two separate occasions that an IT ticket would be created and that someone would call me back. That call never came. To make matters worse, AARP puts their stamp of approval on this company. That endorsement is misleading to seniors who trust AARP to recommend reputable companies. The Hartford has proven to be anything but. They operate with poor communication, broken technology, and a total lack of customer care. I have since left The Hartford and switched to Allstate, where the service and support are night and day compared to what I experienced. But honestly, there are many insurance companies far better than The Hartford. Do yourself a favor and choose almost anyone else--you'll save yourself the frustration, wasted time, and inflated premiums. Shame on AARP for recommending a company that treats people this way. So I went to Costco today for gas and air conditioning, in front of me, a white truck backs into the side of an SUV. I drive over, park and hop out with my husband to see if they need help and to give my phone number as a witness. Out of both cars comes out a 70+ individual out of each. Neither has a cell phone or knows how to operate an email. So I end up snapping photos of the damages, vehicles, driver's licenses, insurance cards. I give them MY contact information. I get back home and get a call from the SUV lady and she asks if she can just pass my contact information to the insurance adjuster because she can't get her email to work or her cellphone to work to get the pictures. I laugh, say yes, because they'd want to interview me as a witness anyway and wish her a lovely rest of her day. As a third party witness with all the pictures/information, I greatly prefer Hartford over Geico. Geico calls, but doesn't have an individual adjuster assigned, so that I can't email them photos from the accident and of the information from the drivers. They can call and give me a claim number, and attempt to give me a log in to the claim to upload them (and epically fail to do so). Hartford gives me a PERSON, who is the assigned adjuster. Who gives me an email address to forward the photos to, ask me detailed questions of where/when/who/what/how, take a recorded statement (with clear and great detail questions), who will wish me a great weekend, and be an overall joy to speak to. 10/10 loved talking to this insurance as someone who is not insured by them. read more

had a work comp with Hartford. I paid in advance $2400 approximately for $10000 salary part time employee which is really high rate. We are 2 partners ( we are brothers) and one employee. When I did the policy, I told the broker to exclude me and my brother because we are partners, and he has all our information because he has the business Insurance, car insurance, home insurance, and I was with him for 6 years. Then he told me that don't worry because owners are already excluded. He sent me the papers, and I looked it's one employee, and I sent him back the papers. This was my first time to do a work comp because he is the first employee I hired. When we did the revision at the end of the year, they asked me to pay $8588 extra because my brother wasn't excluded. I expected to get money back because I paid the employee $6900 on payroll. I thought I should get back around $700 to $800. I talked with them and they asked for a proof that my brother is a partner in the corporation since 2013, and I sent them the proof, but they aren't honest. I have an excellent credit history, and the agent refused to say that's his mistake to them, but he told me that he would tell them that's his mistake, but he was lying. Agent Name Gamil Shehata. If I could leave zero stars I would. My name is Ryan Grimes. I am just a middle class American struggling to make a living as a restaurant manager in Salisbury Maryland. While I was at work I was attacked in the office by my supervisor in an act of rage (the supervisor Brad MOGAN has since been arrested and charged with assault, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment arising out of the attack). Tyrannical Hartford Insurance oppresses innocent victims like me, hiding like cowards never specifically explaining why they allowed insurance fraud in my case. The body shop committed insurance fraud turning in the written lie, that they charged Hartford for new replaced bumper cover on receipt, while putting old bumper cover back on my car for financial gain. Do your research before going with Hartford. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. It took 4 emails, 2 complaints about no response before getting an email answer apologizing for no response and to call a specific number for further information. 1 phone call left a message no call back then the second request phone call the following afternoon said that person was now out of the office for a week. This was the same person who apologized for no response. Then finally I sent a Twitter message before I got the call back. Took about 6 weeks total before I got all of my questions answered. Not happy with the outcome but that was a whole other debacle. This is not senior friendly As they advertise. I had no intention of filing a complaint when I started. Was sideswiped by a driver who tried to get ahead of me by passing on the right shoulder. Problem was there was someone already sitting on the shoulder in front of the driver so to avoid hitting him, he turned into me. In any case my claim through The Hartford has been handled with the utmost professionalism and compassion by Meaghan Sprague in the claims Dept. I can't say enough good things about her. My car was repaired within a week after handing it over to the repair shop. I am now looking to work with The Hartford to prove culpability on the other driver's part. I hope The Hartford doesn't hit me with punishing rate hikes but in any case, Meaghan and the claims process has been exemplary. They did not bill my agent who has my credit card and always pays it. Hartford underwriter refused to re-instate. I have paid for fire ins. for decades. I have NEVER had a loss. Additionally I found out that Hartford sent to the state of California lost property program a $196 refund check to the state of California! Instead of sending it to ME. I have not moved in 20 years. If I can give a ZERO star review, I will. Avoid this company at all costs and I feel bad for companies who have Hartford as their partner. I applied for a Short Term Disability and they are asking for UNREALISTIC AND SPECIFIC requirements from the Doctors. My doctor has filled out the same form TWICE and for them it does not qualify as a Disability. My representative, Marylene Ramseur does not even answer calls and does not give specific reasons why she denies my claim.
