We came across the Harbor Rose on a whim and really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful place and the owner is very helpful!!! Highly recommend!

Unfortunately, the The Harbor Rose owners do not have the first clue how the run a B&B. This place was a giant disappointment. Looks OK from the website, but it is not genuine. I have stayed at countless B&B's and this is basically a homeowner with zero experience running a faux B&B on a shoestring budget. The other problem is there are no other places to stay in CSH, so they get all the unassuming folks looking for a nice get away. Keep driving eastbound..30 mins. I would try The Three Village Inn in Stony Brook. Otherwise, head out to the Hamptons they have the nicest B&B's on the island. - This place is wrong in so many ways. Five Star...completely beau ideal....The finest as to beauty and quality that exists. My stay at this quietly elegant gem was tranquil, aesthetically magnificent and restorative. Each room is artistically and exquisitely appointed. Harbor Rose exudes an enchanting quality and Host Deirdra is truly wonderful, a published author, expert nutritionist and one whose charming manner makes everyone feels ever so comfortable, immediately. Watch out, the website and description of this property is completely misleading. The place is far from luxurious or comfortable. We unfortunately spent our wedding night here and the entire experience from check in to check out was atrocious. For the amount of money charged- the shower needs to work, the linens and towels are old and ragged. the top room we stayed in smelled bad, the lighting is glaring (far from luxury) and the innkeeper is unprofessional and doesn't know how to run a business. We were accused of being drunk and disorderly, which is a complete lie. Please look elsewhere for a real bed and breakfast, as it's clear this owner put her money into a false marketing/website to trick people to stay there. read more

We booked the room on the 2nd floor for our stay. Upon arrival, we were told by the owner there was a problem with the 3rd floor (which we did not book) for some reason she assumed we would want the first floor room & so gave away our room. We were left at 8:00 on ( and there's a late check in fee?!) with no room and a mere 'I'm sorry'. Not the experience we were hoping for. Extremely disappointing to say the least. read more

Booked the "Garden " room based on the website and reviews. Unfortunately we didn't read all the reviews. We were met by a young girl who informed us that she would be our guide. This was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. Her mother then came out of a extremely cluttered "office" to greet us, but was unable to find our reservation. She proceeded to show us the "accommodations". The Garden Room is a solarium addition to the back of the house, completely lacking in privacy. We were then told that the bathroom was on the second floor AND we would be sharing it with the family. WHAT? The entire situation was bizarre. We left but got no satisfaction because we booked with booking.com and were refused a full refund. Live and learn. We were able to get a room at the Melville Marriot which was excellent. We have stayed at many B&Bs over the years and The Harbor Rose does not qualify in any way. If you are looking for a good B&B experience, look elsewhere; if you want weird, this is your place. read more

Beautiful facility. Centrally located to all outdoors activities. The park is close by, the bicycling can be dangerous -please be careful.The roads are windy and people in these little sports cars zip around. The locale is serene, quiet and the most peaceful location. The driveway is accessible although if you have disabilities it can be a challenge. Our friends were staying here and we met up to go to the restaurant within walking distance.. I believe it was harbor something. I decided to review and let you know they tell you (the bed and breakfast customers) to rate them 5 stars and educate you on how to attain the 5 stars. . I was surprised. While they are friendly, the place is clean I cant understand why yelp isn't aware of this practice. There is a park across the way to sit and read, there is a few quaint shops in the town which is walking distance and there is the cold spring lab/medical school across the way. Not perfect, but had an enjoyable stay. Guess I'll start with the less then perfect and end with what I enjoyed most about the harbor rose... first of all, it costs 35.00 for breakfast if you don't book directly through the harbor rose business site. I did book directly through their site, but I had paid 35.00 for the breakfast that I received the first morning of my stay, I would have been very disappointed. The first morning of my stay, the young lady that manages the harbor rose and cooks breakfast in the morning, was running late. I came downstairs at 9am, since I was told that's when breakfast would be served. I initially saw a cup of orange juice and a cup of watermelon sitting on the table and realized that the young lady making breakfast was just getting started preparing the frittata that I chose to have for breakfast. Once the frittata was served ( about 20 mins late ), it turned out to be pretty tasty, but it took over 5 minutes to receive my toast that came as a side. Long story short, felt a LOT more like a 10.00 breakfast then a 35.00 breakfast. The other thing that I had an issue with, was I saw small amounts of mold in the shower and there was a peach core underneath the bed. It really was a lovely property though! Overall, was clean. Loved the hiking trail in the back of the property and the people hosting the Bnb were very kind. I would stay again, might skip breakfast though. read more

We chose The Harbor Rose as a place to stay for our wedding night. We found this inn online after searching for a cute bed and breakfast out on Long Island, since our wedding was out there. The Harbor Rose exceeded our expectations. The owner, Deirdre and her daughter were so helpful when we first got there. Her daughter even helped me up the stairs with my wedding dress on. The little girl was not a distraction at all once we settled down in our room. She was very mature. We stayed in the Victorian Room, which I highly recommend because the bed has a beautiful canopy. And it's very spacious. We had requested wine and chocolates. They didn't have a traditional breakfast like a bed and breakfast has. However, there was a whole table of organic yogurt, cookies, muffins, fruits, and coffee on the downstairs table. There was even a table filled with wine bottles and you were able to take as much as you please. There was an assistant manager who was very friendly and he even offered to drive us into the cute little town of Cold Spring Harbor wherever we needed to go. We really appreciated that. The best thing about this inn is that it's located in a really cute, quaint, and historic town of both Cold Spring Harbor and Huntington where there are a variety of cute cafes, restaurants, and antique gift shops. We highly suggest that you check out The Harbor Mist Restaurant. It has a great view of the water and ships and we even get a ten percent off discount off the meal for staying at the inn. If you are looking for an escape from the city and typical Long Island life, than this place is for you. It was even close to JFK airport. We are so happy we chose The Harbor rose as a special place to spend our wedding night. read more

My wife and I were looking for a spur of the moment one night getaway. We came across this bed and breakfast on one of the B&B websites and were very happy with our stay. The house is almost 200 years old and in amazing shape. When we first walked in we received our tour from Deirdre who was very accommodating, there is a Keurig machine with a nice selection of coffee and tea, fresh fruit, red and white wine and beer. The living room was nice with instrumental music playing which i thought added to the ambiance and was relaxing. It did rain when we were there so i cannot comment on the outside other than there is a trail you can hike on and a nice view of the water. Now for the room, we stayed in the Victorian room on the second floor which was really nice. There was a small couch, closet, dressers and small table, there was a TV with cable. The bed was very comfortable which says a lot because I suffer from extreme back pain and I woke up feeling fine, the bedding was nice with tons of pillows and a down comforter which all smelled like fresh citrus or something of the sort. All in all we had a short but great stay. Everything was clean and fresh. One tip which has nothing to do with the house is either goto dinner or bring dinner because we waiting almost 2 hours for a place to deliver and it was 2 miles away. read more
