A corner street bar with a simple Irish ambiance. We heard the voice of a high pitched angel coming from the second floor and went up to take a peek. A lady was singing and playing an acoustic guitar and getting cover song requests from the enthusiastic crowd. She actually was a good singer but played the guitar better. This is the pub to be in while around Temple Bar as we were there every night when we visited. Great friendly service including wonderful live music Irish performances. It got the busiest on a Saturday but still really a fun time. We came back every night on the weekend because of the performer, Patrick Caroline including the regular bartenders they poured the perfect Guinness. It's a pretty bridge that does what bridges usually do go from A to B usually over water. Most of the time I go past I don't pay it any heed at all. It got its name from the charge to use it when it first opened and now it's free in a country where very little is free. It leads to Temple Bar which is like Disney for alcoholics. A pint of beer is around €11 when in many places nearby a pint is €6.20. We had English friends who thought the bridge pretty but not pretty enough to pose for a photo that said there was no shortage of posers. They were also discerning enough not to buy beer in Temple Bar. read more

My friend and I stopped by the Ha'Penny Bridge Inn for drinks and a little music on one of our nights in Dublin last week. It was packed - I think a lot of tourists in the Temple Bar area were out looking for live music and were happy to find some! But it wasn't as crowded as some other bars and pubs in the area where it was impossible to even imagine getting up to the bar to order! The service was fast (we had G&Ts, Irish whiskeys, and a few pints), and the pub was comfortable! Bathrooms even weren't too bad. Decent pub with a decent view and good selection of local brews and tasty whiskey. god forbid you try to open the blinds up top for a better view of the river. No signs posted to not touch the blinds. Tried opening one only to unintentionally was close it tighter. Asked the barkeep upstairs for a quick tip to re-open. Apparently it is stiff to reopen. The following conversation is 99% verbatim. Customer: " pardon me, any tips on how to reopen the blinds?" Brown haired barkeep with top knot hair: "Don't touch things if you don't know how to use them" "If your hot stand in front of the fan." Customer: "Hey man, I mean no disrespect. Just trying to see the river." Continues to glare with no soul at customer. I apologize and go back to table to have barkeep sassily adjust window a few inches back up. The other barkeeps were great. The blonde barkeep with a topknot and mustache was awesome and allowed us to try whiskeys before committing to one. Older barkeep had an awesome attitude and seemed jolly as a baker. Rude bartender honestly ruined our first night in Dublin. Had no people skills and seemed unhappy with life overall. I wish him the best and hope he learns to spread joy rather than negativity. I've worked in the food service industry for over 10 years and can understand having a rough day; but don't come to work if you can't represent your establishment with the human decency that is expected. Walked passed the pub today and saw the blinds were back up. Picture to enlighten future customer of which blinds don't operate as expected. Good luck future customers! read more

This. Place. Yes! This place is great!!! If you're visiting Ireland or live in Dublin. Stop here! It's a must. My husband and I just happened to be walking back to our hotel from the "famous" Temple bar (not to be confused with the bar bar but the temple bar area) and we wanted a night cap and this place had doors open so we stopped in...... and never left! It's your standard local watering hole. But not a touristy jam packed bar with over priced drinks. No. This place is.... well, home. The bartenders are attentive and friendly and have a "crack" with you (I'm probably not using it correctly) anyways Dave and Chris are awesome. The owners son, Sean, he's doing a fabulous job running the place and bringing in live music and comedy shows and so much more. And of course he's awesome too. We made three new friends instantly on the first night stopping in. The Guinness to the cider to the whisky and the friends we made are top notch and if we lived in Dublin we would be the "Norm" and "Woody" of the Ha'pennny Bridge no doubt about it. So stop in and say hi to Chris Dave and Sean and tell them Shauna and Carl need a Guinness and a cider and help back to their hotel. Lol read more

This is right off the footpath of the landmarked Ha'Penny Bridge. This cozy little pub always plays lively Irish music in the background. There is also a 2nd floor for comedy and other live acts. Though there may be a few tourist there, it seems to be more locals. They make a shot drink,called a Baby Guinness, that you should try. The dress... Is casual, and you will find patrons of all ages down to earth and always happy to chat you up. The TV's are tuned into sports matches. Its a good place for couples or singles. It is a no frills pub, but seating fills up rather quickly so try not to come so late that you have to sit by the bathroom. The bathrooms could be better looked after. So for obvious reasons, its better not to sit there. Still you will have a good time, and won't spend as much as other Temple Bar pubs. Nice touch: The owner "Mick" gives you a compliment every time you pay for your drinks. All of the craic and gaiety that Irish pubs are renown for is here in abundance. read more

For years I have walked by this spot and I always had a snobby attitude to it, that it was too touristy. I have ditched my unfounded pretension and have decided to check out the places I always pass on my daily walk in the city. I was pleasantly surprised; this is a real Dublin pub. I have been there for a quiet drink in the day and its old Dublin charm is great, the bartenders are great. I have also been there on a busy weekend and it's always packed with a mixed crowd of locals and tourists but the atmosphere is fantastic. Upstairs they have live music and comedy nights. Tuesday is open mic night and I believe Monday is songwriter night, so there is always something going on, plus the pints are reasonably priced. read more

Hi there. This was the first pub I came into when I moved to Ireland and I must say haven't been to many other since,kind of got stuck here. After a few minutes there the first time waiting for my Guinness to get ready Mick ( the owner) asked me : Where are you from if I may ask you ? I told him I am from Denmark and I just came over here. Ohhhhh my god !!! He looked at me very very intense and said : You were here in the year of 841 and you stole our gold and raped our woman, NOW MISTER, We want the gold back. It took a few minutes before it got into my thick skull but when the whole bar bursted out in laughter I knew I had found my new "home". Nipped in for a quick pint last weekend, considering it was a Friday the place was quiet. Not you can hear a pin drop quiet but enough so that getting a seat wasn't a problem. Bar staff were great but even though the bar looks like it should be stocking all sorts of nice and interesting beers, the drinks on offer were more deaggio than interesting. I don't know where to start.... The Ha'penny bridge is within spitting distance of it's names sake landmark and the Temple bar. It's a much quieter alternative to The Temple Bar itself and a darn sight cheaper (no 7Euro Pints here). The Missus and I popped in after a long walk around the city for a quick pint and a packet of Taytos. As with many drinking establishments in the city it's an authentic Irish pub, but one of the slightly rougher ones in the area. A 'Toilets only for Customer Use' sign at each door. So why the Ha'Penny Bridge Inn? Given there's not a lack of similar pubs in the area. The Landlord himself is the only thing that makes this pub. As soon as you walk in you're greeted by a 'Halloo Ladies' and served with wit and banter. He seems on auto pilot, cracking his jokes and one liners to the entire pub (which at the time consisted of 6 people). I'm not sure how aware he was that many of his one liners aimed at us was about not kicking a good man out of bed for eating biscuits and cooking 'your man' a good meal - were the most inappropriate thing he could of send. But none of it was meant in bad spirit and we walked away laughing! Defo one to pop in if you want to get slightly insulted in a dodgy pub by its landlord. Came here for a comedy night and it was really good--funny--mostly things coming from where people in the audience are from (within Ireland or outside of it) which shows more creativity to me. Drinks were a bit expensive. 11.50 for Heineken and vodka/soda. Standard Irish pub look and good size (if you know the upstairs exists!) The Ha'penny Bridge Inn is a good deal grottier than the other Temple Bar pubs, and is much better for it. Though not quite as touristy as those clustered around Temple Bar Square, they still have live trad music sessions most days, and there's comedy four nights a week. A friend of mine used to be a regular on Mondays for the Songwriters' night upstairs, and there's also an open-mic session (on a Tuesday I think) for all the wannabes out there. This, hah, bar none, is the best pub in Temple Bar, or, frankly, all of Dublin. This is a family run business which makes it very special. If you are lucky, you will meet the owner Mick Ryan. Smaller pub right next to the busy Temple Bar scene, catoring to locals but with so much hospitality that a visitor will immediately feel welcome. We found this place while wandering around the city during our first afternoon in Dublin and stopped in to sit for a bit. The bartender Shawn was friendly and funny and gave us advice about where to go. We also learned how the temple bar sence has changed in the paat few years in the eyes of a local, which was especially interesting. We stopped in about a week later and he was juat as friendly and funny. It wasn't busy either of the times were in but still had a nice group of regulars. And if you need more reason to say hi, this place has some of the cheapest beers available in the area. read more

A fabulous pub! It has a real Dublin atmosphere inside, which i really liked. It has a lovely typical, warm, Irish, city pub feel to it. It's full of friendly regulars, gives a sense of community. Barstaff are helpful people. A visit to this pub gives u a real feel good factor. There are also various other performances found upstairs during the week including comedy nights, blues nights etc. So if you're looking for a quiet drink downstairs or a live 'original' entertainment upstairs this is the place for you. read more

As a tourist here with my wife, it was our first night in town. We had a lovely dinner and a pint at another local establishment, then we went looking for a nice authentic Irish pub experience with live music and not too crowded. The Ha'penny bridge inn was the perfect setting and we very much enjoyed the fifteen minutes we spent there listening to the incredible musicians perform. As we waited for a waitress to take our drink order, I decided I would partake in the facilities to relieve myself of the earlier consumed pint, leaving my wife at the table to place our drink order. As I approached the restroom, a large gentleman, who I assume was the doorman or owner, accosted me from behind and ordered me out of the bar because "the restrooms were for customers only". He forcefully escorted me to the door saying "the rules are the rules". I have never been so embarrassed. I have always heard the the Irish are such friendly people and that I will enjoy my visit to Ireland. I still believe that the Irish are a friendly people and I won't let this establishments set in stone die hard policy of "the restrooms are for customers only" get in the way of enjoying myself. I'm sure the policy is in place because there are many who would take advantage of such an establishment, but I am not one of them. While I will continue to spend my hard earned tourist euros here in Dublin, it just won't be at this establishment. I truly felt that he treated me like a drunk vagrant who was causing a disturbance. I gave two stars because the atmosphere and talented musicians were thoroughly enjoyable, but the rude approach of enforcing this policy killed the experience. We will definitely be visiting other pubs while here. read more

Just around the corner from the main area of Temple Bar, this pub is much cheaper than the more popular bars of Temple Bar. It is a lot quieter than those pubs on temple bar and also cheaper at around €5 for a pint. The barman was very friendly and will offer his help for where to go in Dublin and the best route to get there! On Tuesday and Thursday they hold a comedy night which is €6 entry. Great pub on the edge of Temple Bar without the crowds and price of the more stereotypical bars in this area. The price is excellent: €5 for a pint of Guinness. The bartenders are funny and were easy to deal with. I imagine they would have been even better if not distracted by the World Cup. Who can blame them? I have always been afraid of comedy nights ever since McSavage poked fun at me back in 1999! But I ended up tagging along to the Comedy/Singer Songwriter night with my boyfriend who is a musician. When I got up there I was pleasantly surprised. The place is bubbling with tourists from all corners of the earth as well as locals and well I suppose being from Kildare, you call us "tourists" too! Everyone is up for a good night, supporting the talent and enjoy the banter. When Bubba normally gets up to sing his tunes in other bars, I end up sitting alone like Billy No Mates (pretentious Dublin)!! But not here... The Comedy Club feels like a sitting room in a home away from home... Everyone there is looking to meet and have the craic with new people. The comedians can be up and down and some truly awful but this is part of the appeal, you never know what you are going to get. It's somewhere the comedians go to cut their teeth on new material as well as the odd musician entertaining you in between... So you never know who you are going to see or meet! A little gem in a city of stone! One little word of warning for budding musicians/comedians.. If you are going there to win the charming certificate & prize; rent a crowd is advisable!!! read more

The Ha'penny Bridge Inn is never a place that would be on the tip of tongue to suggest for a pint, but never the less, in passing by here last Saturday we decided to venture in for a pint. We just went into the bar area, which is relatively small, so i reckon it fills up fairly quick. We went in at about 8 o'clock and it was busy but still plenty of room at the bar. The barmen who were no spring chickens, were real cheerfull, friendly lads. You could tell they had a great interest and passion for their job, which is not common in most pubs at all now. They really took the time to interact with their customers and not just the usual jibber-jabber, they genuinely had an interest in getting to know you (although I have a feeling that it had more to do with my friend feeding them sweets everytime they came to our end of the bar, over my dazzling personality!!) read more

Lured in by the stand-up comedy, this traditional pub was less packed than other pubs round the corner in the centre of Temple Bar. The comedy itself was hit and miss but fine for the price and there were quite a few acts over the evening. I've only ever been here for the trad music sessions upstairs as a friend's friend used to play in those sessions. It's a pretty small place upstairs and it gets quite crowded but it's great fun. They draw a nice pint and those are pretty cheap compared to other places in Temple Bar as well. In my opinion this is what Temple Bar was meant to be like- a bit of an artsy, fun place- and less touristy. You will get mostly Irish people at the trad sessions and less tourists, probably because the Ha'penny Bridge Inn doesn't look like much from the outside. But it's definitely worth coming here for the music sessions. read more

It reminds me a bit of a small town country pub. They don't try too hard to make it too "diddly-aye", like other pubs I could mention in the vicinity, likewise they don't charge €7 a pint.
